1 D ijo luego David en su corazón: «Cualquier día de estos voy a morir a manos de Saúl; por tanto, lo mejor será que me fugue a tierra de los filisteos, para que Saúl no se ocupe más de mí y no me siga buscando por todo el territorio de Israel; así escaparé de sus manos.»

And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me to seek me any more within all the limits of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.

2 S e levantó, pues, David, y con los seiscientos hombres que lo acompañaban se pasó a Aquis hijo de Maoc, rey de Gat.

And David arose and passed over, he and the six hundred men that were with him, to Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

3 Y vivió David con Aquis en Gat, él y sus hombres, cada cual con su familia; David con sus dos mujeres, Ahinoam, la jezreelita, y Abigail, la que fue mujer de Nabal, el de Carmel.

And David abode with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household; David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jizreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal's wife.

4 S aúl recibió la noticia de que David había huido a Gat, y no lo buscó más.

And it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath; and he sought no more for him.

5 D avid dijo a Aquis: —Si he hallado gracia ante tus ojos, haz que me den un lugar en alguna de las aldeas para que habite allí; pues ¿por qué ha de vivir tu siervo contigo en la ciudad real?

And David said to Achish, If now I have found favour in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some country-town, that I may abide there; for why should thy servant abide in the royal city with thee?

6 A quel mismo día Aquis le asignó Siclag, por lo cual Siclag pertenece a los reyes de Judá hasta hoy.

And Achish gave him Ziklag that day; therefore Ziklag belongs to the kings of Judah to this day.

7 E l número de los días que David habitó en la tierra de los filisteos ascendió a un año y cuatro meses.

And the time that David abode in the country of the Philistines was a year and four months.

8 D avid subía con sus hombres y hacían incursiones contra los gesuritas, los gezritas y los amalecitas; porque estos habitaban desde hacía largo tiempo la región que se extiende, en dirección a Shur, hasta la tierra de Egipto.

And David and his men went up and made a raid upon the Geshurites, and the Gerzites, and the Amalekites: for those were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, and as far as the land of Egypt.

9 D avid asolaba el país, y no dejaba con vida hombre ni mujer; se llevaba las ovejas, las vacas, los asnos, los camellos y las ropas, y regresaba adonde estaba Aquis.

And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned, and came to Achish.

10 Y cuando Aquis le preguntaba: «¿Dónde habéis incursionado hoy?», David le respondía: «Por el Neguev de Judá» (o «por el Neguev de Jerameel» o «por el Neguev de los ceneos»).

So Achish said, Have ye not made a raid to-day? And David said, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the Kenites.

11 N i hombre ni mujer dejaba David llegar con vida a Gat, pues decía: «No sea que den aviso de nosotros y digan: “Esto lo hizo David.”» Ésta fue su costumbre todo el tiempo que vivió en la tierra de los filisteos.

And David left neither man nor woman alive, to bring to Gath, for he said, Lest they should tell of us, saying, So did David. And such was his custom as long as he abode in the country of the Philistines.

12 P ero Aquis confiaba en David, pues pensaba: «Él se ha hecho odioso a su pueblo Israel, y será mi siervo para siempre.»

And Achish trusted David, saying, He has made himself utterly odious among his people Israel; and he shall be my servant for ever.
