1 L legaron los hijos de Israel, toda la congregación, al desierto de Zin, en el primer mes, y acampó el pueblo en Cades. Allí murió María, y allí fue sepultada.

And the children of Israel, the whole assembly, came into the wilderness of Zin, in the first month; and the people abode at Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.

2 P orque no había agua para la congregación, se juntaron contra Moisés y Aarón.

And there was no water for the assembly, and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.

3 Y el pueblo se quejó contra Moisés, diciendo: «¡Ojalá hubiéramos muerto cuando perecieron nuestros hermanos delante de Jehová!

And the people contended with Moses, and spoke, saying, Would that we had died when our brethren died before Jehovah!

4 ¿ Por qué hiciste venir la congregación de Jehová a este desierto, para que muramos aquí nosotros y nuestras bestias?

And why have ye brought the congregation of Jehovah into this wilderness, that we should die there, we and our beasts?

5 ¿ Y por qué nos has hecho subir de Egipto, para traernos a este horrible lugar? No es un lugar de sementera, de higueras, de viñas ni de granados, ni aun de agua para beber.»

And why have ye made us to go up out of Egypt, to bring us to this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates, neither is there any water to drink.

6 M oisés y Aarón, apartándose de la congregación, fueron a la puerta del Tabernáculo de reunión y se postraron sobre sus rostros. Entonces la gloria de Jehová se les apareció.

And Moses and Aaron went from before the congregation to the entrance of the tent of meeting, and fell upon their faces; and the glory of Jehovah appeared to them.

7 Y Jehová dijo a Moisés:

And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

8 « Toma la vara y reúne a la congregación, tú con tu hermano Aarón, y hablad a la peña a la vista de ellos. Ella dará su agua; así sacarás para ellos aguas de la peña, y darás de beber a la congregación y a sus bestias.»

Take the staff, and gather the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes, and it shall give its water; and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock, and shalt give the assembly and their beasts drink.

9 E ntonces Moisés tomó la vara de delante de Jehová, como él le mandó.

And Moses took the staff from before Jehovah, as he had commanded him.

10 R eunieron Moisés y Aarón a la congregación delante de la peña, y él les dijo: «¡Oíd ahora, rebeldes! ¿Haremos salir agua de esta peña para vosotros?»

And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said to them, Hear now, ye rebels: shall we bring forth to you water out of this rock?

11 Y alzando su mano, Moisés golpeó la peña con su vara dos veces. Brotó agua en abundancia, y bebió la congregación y sus bestias.

And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his staff smote the rock twice, and much water came out, and the assembly drank, and their beasts.

12 P ero Jehová dijo a Moisés y a Aarón: «Por cuanto no creísteis en mí, para santificarme delante de los hijos de Israel, por tanto, no entraréis con esta congregación en la tierra que les he dado.»

And Jehovah said to Moses and to Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to hallow me before the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land that I have given them.

13 É stas son las aguas de la rencilla, por las cuales contendieron los hijos de Israel con Jehová, y él manifestó su santidad en medio de ellos. Edom niega el paso a Israel

These are the waters of Meribah, where the children of Israel contended with Jehovah, and he hallowed himself in them.

14 E nvió Moisés embajadores al rey de Edom desde Cades, con este mensaje: «Así dice Israel, tu hermano: “Tú has sabido todas las dificultades por las que hemos pasado:

And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, Thus says thy brother Israel: Thou knowest all the trouble that hath befallen us,

15 c ómo nuestros padres descendieron a Egipto, cómo estuvimos en Egipto largo tiempo y cómo los egipcios nos maltrataron a nosotros y a nuestros padres.

how our fathers went down to Egypt, and we dwelt in Egypt a long time, and the Egyptians evil entreated us and our fathers;

16 E ntonces clamamos a Jehová, que oyó nuestra voz, envió un ángel y nos sacó de Egipto. Ahora estamos en Cades, ciudad cercana a tus fronteras.

and when we cried to Jehovah, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and brought us forth out of Egypt; and behold, we are at Kadesh, a city at the extremity of thy border.

17 T e rogamos que nos dejes pasar por tu tierra. No pasaremos por los campos de labranza ni por las viñas, ni beberemos agua de los pozos; por el camino real iremos, sin apartarnos a diestra ni a siniestra, hasta que hayamos atravesado tu territorio.”»

Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country; we will not pass through fields, or through vineyards, neither will we drink water out of the wells: we will go by the king's road; we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy border.

18 E dom le respondió: —No pasarás por mi país; de otra manera, saldré contra ti armado.

But Edom said to him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.

19 L os hijos de Israel le dijeron: —Por el camino principal iremos, y si bebemos tus aguas yo y mis ganados, pagaremos su precio. Déjame solamente pasar a pie, nada más.

And the children of Israel said to him, We will go by the high way; and if we drink of thy water, I and my cattle, then I will pay for it: I will only, without anything else, go through on my feet.

20 P ero él respondió: —No pasarás. Y salió Edom contra él con mucho pueblo y mano fuerte.

And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.

21 N o quiso, pues, Edom dejar pasar a Israel por su territorio. Entonces Israel se desvió de él. Aarón muere en el Monte Hor

Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his territory; and Israel turned away from him.

22 L os hijos de Israel, toda aquella congregación, partieron de Cades y llegaron al monte Hor.

And they removed from Kadesh; and the children of Israel, the whole assembly, came to mount Hor.

23 J ehová habló a Moisés y a Aarón en el monte Hor, en la frontera de la tierra de Edom, diciendo:

And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron in mount Hor, on the border of the land of Edom, saying,

24 « Aarón va a ser reunido a su pueblo, pues no entrará en la tierra que yo di a los hijos de Israel, por cuanto fuisteis rebeldes a mi mandamiento en las aguas de la rencilla.

Aaron shall be gathered unto his peoples; for he shall not enter into the land that I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my commandment at the waters of Meribah.

25 T oma a Aarón y a Eleazar, su hijo, y hazlos subir al monte Hor;

Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor,

26 d esnuda a Aarón de sus vestiduras y viste con ellas a Eleazar, su hijo, porque Aarón será reunido a su pueblo, y allí morirá.»

and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron shall be gathered, and shall die there.

27 M oisés hizo como Jehová le mandó. Subieron al monte Hor a la vista de toda la congregación.

And Moses did as Jehovah had commanded, and they went up mount Hor before the eyes of the whole assembly.

28 L uego Moisés desnudó a Aarón de sus vestiduras y se las puso a Eleazar, su hijo. Aarón murió allí en la cumbre del monte, y Moisés y Eleazar descendieron del monte.

And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there upon the top of the mountain; and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

29 A l saber toda la congregación que Aarón había muerto, le hicieron duelo por treinta días todas las familias de Israel.

And the whole assembly saw that Aaron was dead, and they mourned for Aaron thirty days, the whole house of Israel.
