1 E l Anciano, a la señora elegida y a sus hijos, a quienes yo amo en la verdad; y no sólo yo, sino también todos los que han conocido la verdad,

The elder to elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not I only but also all who have known the truth,

2 a causa de la verdad que permanece en nosotros y estará para siempre con nosotros:

for the truth's sake which abides in us and shall be with us to eternity.

3 S ea con vosotros gracia, misericordia y paz, de Dios Padre y del Señor Jesucristo, Hijo del Padre, en verdad y en amor. Permaneced en la doctrina de Cristo

Grace shall be with you, mercy, peace from God Father, and from Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

4 M ucho me regocijé porque he hallado a algunos de tus hijos andando en la verdad, conforme al mandamiento que recibimos del Padre.

I rejoiced greatly that I have found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received commandment from the Father.

5 Y ahora te ruego, señora, no como escribiéndote un nuevo mandamiento, sino el que hemos tenido desde el principio, que nos amemos unos a otros.

And now I beseech thee, lady, not as writing to thee a new commandment, but that which we have had from beginning, that we should love one another.

6 Y éste es el amor: que andemos según sus mandamientos. Éste es el mandamiento: que andéis en amor, como vosotros habéis oído desde el principio.

And this is love, that we should walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, according as ye have heard from the beginning, that ye might walk in it.

7 M uchos engañadores han salido por el mundo, que no confiesan que Jesucristo ha venido en carne. Quien esto hace es el engañador y el anticristo.

For many deceivers have gone out into the world, they who do not confess Jesus Christ coming in flesh—this is the deceiver and the antichrist.

8 M irad por vosotros mismos, para que no perdáis el fruto de vuestro trabajo, sino que recibáis la recompensa completa.

See to yourselves, that we may not lose what we have wrought, but may receive full wages.

9 C ualquiera que se extravía y no persevera en la doctrina de Cristo, no tiene a Dios; el que persevera en la doctrina de Cristo, ése sí tiene al Padre y al Hijo.

Whosoever goes forward and abides not in the doctrine of the Christ has not God. He that abides in the doctrine, he has both the Father and the Son.

10 S i alguno viene a vosotros y no trae esta doctrina, no lo recibáis en casa ni le digáis: «¡Bienvenido!»,

If any one come to you and bring not this doctrine, do not receive him into house, and greet him not;

11 p orque el que le dice: «¡Bienvenido!» participa en sus malas obras. Espero ir a vosotros

for he who greets him partakes in his wicked works.

12 T engo muchas cosas que escribiros, pero no he querido hacerlo por medio de papel y tinta, pues espero ir a vosotros y hablar cara a cara, para que nuestro gozo sea completo.

Having many things to write to you, I would not with paper and ink; but hope to come to you, and to speak mouth to mouth, that our joy may be full.

13 L os hijos de tu hermana, la elegida, te saludan. Amén.

The children of thine elect sister greet thee.
