1 L legaron los días en que David había de morir, y ordenó a Salomón su hijo, diciendo:

And the days of David were at hand that he should die; and he enjoined Solomon his son saying,

2 Y o sigo el camino de todos en la tierra; esfuérzate, y sé hombre.

I go the way of all the earth: be of good courage therefore, and be a man;

3 G uarda los preceptos de Jehová tu Dios, andando en sus caminos, y observando sus estatutos y mandamientos, sus decretos y sus testimonios, de la manera que está escrito en la ley de Moisés, para que prosperes en todo lo que hagas y en todo aquello que emprendas;

and keep the charge of Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his ordinances, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest and whithersoever thou turnest thyself;

4 p ara que confirme Jehová la palabra que me habló, diciendo: Si tus hijos guardaren mi camino, andando delante de mí con verdad, de todo su corazón y de toda su alma, jamás, dice, faltará a ti varón en el trono de Israel.

that Jehovah may confirm his word which he spoke concerning me, saying, If thy sons take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee, said he, a man upon the throne of Israel.

5 Y a sabes tú lo que me ha hecho Joab hijo de Sarvia, lo que hizo a dos generales del ejército de Israel, a Abner hijo de Ner y a Amasa hijo de Jeter, a los cuales él mató, derramando en tiempo de paz la sangre de guerra, y poniendo sangre de guerra en el talabarte que tenía sobre sus lomos, y en los zapatos que tenía en sus pies.

And thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and upon his sandals that were on his feet.

6 T ú, pues, harás conforme a tu sabiduría; no dejarás descender sus canas al Seol en paz.

And thou shalt do according to thy wisdom, and not let his hoar head go down to Sheol in peace.

7 M as a los hijos de Barzilai galaadita harás misericordia, que sean de los convidados a tu mesa; porque ellos vinieron de esta manera a mí, cuando iba huyendo de Absalón tu hermano.

But shew kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be of those that eat at thy table; for so they came up to me when I fled because of Absalom thy brother.

8 T ambién tienes contigo a Simei hijo de Gera, hijo de Benjamín, de Bahurim, el cual me maldijo con una maldición fuerte el día que yo iba a Mahanaim. Mas él mismo descendió a recibirme al Jordán, y yo le juré por Jehová diciendo: Yo no te mataré a espada.

And behold, there is with thee Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjaminite of Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse in the day that I went to Mahanaim; but he came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swore to him by Jehovah saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.

9 P ero ahora no lo absolverás; pues hombre sabio eres, y sabes cómo debes hacer con él; y harás descender sus canas con sangre al Seol. Muerte de David (1 Cr. 29. 26-30)

And now hold him not guiltless; for thou art a wise man, and thou shalt know what thou oughtest to do to him; but bring his hoar head down to Sheol with blood.

10 Y durmió David con sus padres, y fue sepultado en su ciudad.

And David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

11 L os días que reinó David sobre Israel fueron cuarenta años; siete años reinó en Hebrón, y treinta y tres años reinó en Jerusalén.

And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years: he reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

12 Y se sentó Salomón en el trono de David su padre, y su reino fue firme en gran manera. Salomón afirma su reino

And Solomon sat on the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.

13 E ntonces Adonías hijo de Haguit vino a Betsabé madre de Salomón; y ella le dijo: ¿Es tu venida de paz? El respondió: Sí, de paz.

And Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. And she said, Comest thou peaceably? And he said, Peaceably.

14 E n seguida dijo: Una palabra tengo que decirte. Y ella dijo: Di.

And he said, I have something to say to thee. And she said, Speak.

15 E l dijo: Tú sabes que el reino era mío, y que todo Israel había puesto en mí su rostro para que yo reinara; mas el reino fue traspasado, y vino a ser de mi hermano, porque por Jehová era suyo.

And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and all Israel had set their faces on me that I should reign; but the kingdom is turned about and is become my brother's, for it was his from Jehovah.

16 A hora yo te hago una petición; no me la niegues. Y ella le dijo: Habla.

And now I ask one petition of thee; refuse me not. And she said to him, Speak.

17 E l entonces dijo: Yo te ruego que hables al rey Salomón (porque él no te lo negará), para que me dé Abisag sunamita por mujer.

And he said, Speak, I pray thee, to Solomon the king—for he will not refuse thee—that he give me Abishag the Shunammite as wife.

18 Y Betsabé dijo: Bien; yo hablaré por ti al rey.

And Bathsheba said, Well, I will speak for thee to the king.

19 V ino Betsabé al rey Salomón para hablarle por Adonías. Y el rey se levantó a recibirla, y se inclinó ante ella, y volvió a sentarse en su trono, e hizo traer una silla para su madre, la cual se sentó a su diestra.

And Bathsheba went to king Solomon, to speak to him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself to her, and sat down on his throne; and he caused a throne to be set for the king's mother, and she sat on his right hand.

20 Y ella dijo: Una pequeña petición pretendo de ti; no me la niegues. Y el rey le dijo: Pide, madre mía, que yo no te la negaré.

Then she said, I desire one small petition of thee; refuse me not. And the king said to her, Ask, my mother, for I will not refuse thee.

21 Y ella dijo: Dése Abisag sunamita por mujer a tu hermano Adonías.

And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy brother as wife.

22 E l rey Salomón respondió y dijo a su madre: ¿Por qué pides a Abisag sunamita para Adonías? Demanda también para él el reino; porque él es mi hermano mayor, y ya tiene también al sacerdote Abiatar, y a Joab hijo de Sarvia.

And king Solomon answered and said to his mother, And why dost thou ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is mine elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.

23 Y el rey Salomón juró por Jehová, diciendo: Así me haga Dios y aun me añada, que contra su vida ha hablado Adonías estas palabras.

And king Solomon swore by Jehovah saying, God do so to me, and more also,—Adonijah has spoken this word against his own life!

24 A hora, pues, vive Jehová, quien me ha confirmado y me ha puesto sobre el trono de David mi padre, y quien me ha hecho casa, como me había dicho, que Adonías morirá hoy.

And now Jehovah liveth, who has established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.

25 E ntonces el rey Salomón envió por mano de Benaía hijo de Joiada, el cual arremetió contra él, y murió.

And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; who fell on him, that he died.

26 Y el rey dijo al sacerdote Abiatar: Vete a Anatot, a tus heredades, pues eres digno de muerte; pero no te mataré hoy, por cuanto has llevado el arca de Jehová el Señor delante de David mi padre, y además has sido afligido en todas las cosas en que fue afligido mi padre.

And the king said to Abiathar the priest, Go to Anathoth, to thine own fields; for thou art worthy of death; but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou didst bear the ark of Adonai Jehovah before David my father, and because thou hast been afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted.

27 A sí echó Salomón a Abiatar del sacerdocio de Jehová, para que se cumpliese la palabra de Jehová que había dicho sobre la casa de Elí en Silo.

And Solomon thrust out Abiathar from being priest to Jehovah, to fulfil the word of Jehovah, which he had spoken concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

28 Y vino la noticia a Joab; porque también Joab se había adherido a Adonías, si bien no se había adherido a Absalón. Y huyó Joab al tabernáculo de Jehová, y se asió de los cuernos del altar.

And the report came to Joab (for Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he had not turned after Absalom); and Joab fled to the tent of Jehovah, and caught hold of the horns of the altar.

29 Y se le hizo saber a Salomón que Joab había huido al tabernáculo de Jehová, y que estaba junto al altar. Entonces envió Salomón a Benaía hijo de Joiada, diciendo: Ve, y arremete contra él.

And it was told king Solomon that Joab had fled to the tent of Jehovah; and behold, he is by the altar. And Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go, fall on him.

30 Y entró Benaía al tabernáculo de Jehová, y le dijo: El rey ha dicho que salgas. Y él dijo: No, sino que aquí moriré. Y Benaía volvió con esta respuesta al rey, diciendo: Así dijo Joab, y así me respondió.

And Benaiah came to the tent of Jehovah and said to him, Thus saith the king: Come forth. And he said, No; for I will die here. And Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, Thus said Joab, and thus he answered me.

31 Y el rey le dijo: Haz como él ha dicho; mátale y entiérrale, y quita de mí y de la casa de mi padre la sangre que Joab ha derramado injustamente.

And the king said to him, Do as he has said, and fall upon him, and bury him; and take away the innocent blood, which Joab shed, from me and from the house of my father.

32 Y Jehová hará volver su sangre sobre su cabeza; porque él ha dado muerte a dos varones más justos y mejores que él, a los cuales mató a espada sin que mi padre David supiese nada: a Abner hijo de Ner, general del ejército de Israel, y a Amasa hijo de Jeter, general del ejército de Judá.

And Jehovah shall requite the blood which he shed upon his own head, because he fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, without my father David's knowledge: Abner the son of Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.

33 L a sangre, pues, de ellos recaerá sobre la cabeza de Joab, y sobre la cabeza de su descendencia para siempre; mas sobre David y sobre su descendencia, y sobre su casa y sobre su trono, habrá perpetuamente paz de parte de Jehová.

And their blood shall be requited upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever; but upon David, and upon his seed, and upon his house, and upon his throne, shall there be peace for ever from Jehovah.

34 E ntonces Benaía hijo de Joiada subió y arremetió contra él, y lo mató; y fue sepultado en su casa en el desierto.

And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up and fell upon him, and put him to death; and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.

35 Y el rey puso en su lugar a Benaía hijo de Joiada sobre el ejército, y a Sadoc puso el rey por sacerdote en lugar de Abiatar.

And the king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his stead over the host; and Zadok the priest the king put in the stead of Abiathar.

36 D espués envió el rey e hizo venir a Simei, y le dijo: Edifícate una casa en Jerusalén y mora ahí, y no salgas de allí a una parte ni a otra;

And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, Build thee a house in Jerusalem, and abide there, and go not forth thence anywhere.

37 p orque sabe de cierto que el día que salieres y pasares el torrente de Cedrón, sin duda morirás, y tu sangre será sobre tu cabeza.

And it shall be that on the day thou goest forth, and passest over the torrent of Kidron, … know for certain that thou shalt surely die: thy blood shall be upon thine own head.

38 Y Simei dijo al rey: La palabra es buena; como el rey mi señor ha dicho, así lo hará tu siervo. Y habitó Simei en Jerusalén muchos días.

And Shimei said to the king, The saying is good: as my lord the king has said, so will thy servant do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.

39 P ero pasados tres años, aconteció que dos siervos de Simei huyeron a Aquis hijo de Maaca, rey de Gat. Y dieron aviso a Simei, diciendo: He aquí que tus siervos están en Gat.

And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two servants of Shimei's ran away to Achish son of Maachah, king of Gath. And they told Shimei saying, Behold, thy servants are in Gath.

40 E ntonces Simei se levantó y ensilló su asno y fue a Aquis en Gat, para buscar a sus siervos. Fue, pues, Simei, y trajo sus siervos de Gat.

Then Shimei arose, and saddled his ass, and went to Gath, to Achish, to seek his servants; and Shimei went, and brought his servants from Gath.

41 L uego fue dicho a Salomón que Simei había ido de Jerusalén hasta Gat, y que había vuelto.

And it was told Solomon that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and had come again.

42 E ntonces el rey envió e hizo venir a Simei, y le dijo: ¿No te hice jurar yo por Jehová, y te protesté diciendo: El día que salieres y fueres acá o allá, sabe de cierto que morirás? Y tú me dijiste: La palabra es buena, yo la obedezco.

And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, Did I not make thee swear by Jehovah, and protest to thee, saying, Know for certain, that on the day thou goest forth, and walkest abroad anywhere, thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst to me, The word that I have heard is good.

43 ¿ Por qué, pues, no guardaste el juramento de Jehová, y el mandamiento que yo te impuse?

Why then hast thou not kept the oath of Jehovah, and the commandment that I charged thee with?

44 D ijo además el rey a Simei: Tú sabes todo el mal, el cual tu corazón bien sabe, que cometiste contra mi padre David; Jehová, pues, ha hecho volver el mal sobre tu cabeza.

And the king said to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness of which thy heart is conscious, which thou didst to David my father; and Jehovah returns thy wickedness upon thine own head;

45 Y el rey Salomón será bendito, y el trono de David será firme perpetuamente delante de Jehová.

and king Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before Jehovah for ever.

46 E ntonces el rey mandó a Benaía hijo de Joiada, el cual salió y lo hirió, y murió. Y el reino fue confirmado en la mano de Salomón.

And the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; who went out and fell upon him, and he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.
