1 L os filisteos, pues, pelearon contra Israel, y los de Israel huyeron delante de los filisteos, y cayeron muertos en el monte de Gilboa.

And the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on mount Gilboa.

2 Y siguiendo los filisteos a Saúl y a sus hijos, mataron a Jonatán, a Abinadab y a Malquisúa, hijos de Saúl.

And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines smote Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons.

3 Y arreció la batalla contra Saúl, y le alcanzaron los flecheros, y tuvo gran temor de ellos.

And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers came up with him; and he was much terrified by the archers.

4 E ntonces dijo Saúl a su escudero: Saca tu espada, y traspásame con ella, para que no vengan estos incircuncisos y me traspasen, y me escarnezcan. Mas su escudero no quería, porque tenía gran temor. Entonces tomó Saúl su propia espada y se echó sobre ella.

Then said Saul to his armour-bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through with it; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armour-bearer would not; for he was much afraid. So Saul took the sword and fell on it.

5 Y viendo su escudero a Saúl muerto, él también se echó sobre su espada, y murió con él.

And when his armour-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on his sword, and died with him.

6 A sí murió Saúl en aquel día, juntamente con sus tres hijos, y su escudero, y todos sus varones.

So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armour-bearer, and all his men, that same day together.

7 Y los de Israel que eran del otro lado del valle, y del otro lado del Jordán, viendo que Israel había huido y que Saúl y sus hijos habían sido muertos, dejaron las ciudades y huyeron; y los filisteos vinieron y habitaron en ellas.

And when the men of Israel that were on this side of the valley, and that were on this side of the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

8 A conteció al siguiente día, que viniendo los filisteos a despojar a los muertos, hallaron a Saúl y a sus tres hijos tendidos en el monte de Gilboa.

And it came to pass the next day, that the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and his three sons fallen on mount Gilboa.

9 Y le cortaron la cabeza, y le despojaron de las armas; y enviaron mensajeros por toda la tierra de los filisteos, para que llevaran las buenas nuevas al templo de sus ídolos y al pueblo.

And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to announce the glad tidings in the houses of their idols, and to the people.

10 Y pusieron sus armas en el templo de Astarot, y colgaron su cuerpo en el muro de Bet-sán.

And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth; and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.

11 M as oyendo los de Jabes de Galaad esto que los filisteos hicieron a Saúl,

And when the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead heard of what the Philistines had done to Saul,

12 t odos los hombres valientes se levantaron, y anduvieron toda aquella noche, y quitaron el cuerpo de Saúl y los cuerpos de sus hijos del muro de Bet-sán; y viniendo a Jabes, los quemaron allí.

all the valiant men arose and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to Jabesh, and burned them there.

13 Y tomando sus huesos, los sepultaron debajo de un árbol en Jabes, y ayunaron siete días.

And they took their bones, and buried them under the tamarisk at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
