1 E ntonces Jesús fue llevado por el Espíritu al desierto, para ser tentado por el diablo.

Then Jesus was carried up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted of the devil:

2 Y después de haber ayunado cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, tuvo hambre.

and having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he hungered.

3 Y vino a él el tentador, y le dijo: Si eres Hijo de Dios, di que estas piedras se conviertan en pan.

And the tempter coming up to him said, If thou be Son of God, speak, that these stones may become loaves of bread.

4 E l respondió y dijo: Escrito está: No sólo de pan vivirá el hombre, sino de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios.

But he answering said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word which goes out through God's mouth.

5 E ntonces el diablo le llevó a la santa ciudad, y le puso sobre el pináculo del templo,

Then the devil takes him to the holy city, and sets him upon the edge of the temple,

6 y le dijo: Si eres Hijo de Dios, échate abajo; porque escrito está: A sus ángeles mandará acerca de ti, m y, En sus manos te sostendrán, Para que no tropieces con tu pie en piedra. m

and says to him, If thou be Son of God cast thyself down; for it is written, He shall give charge to his angels concerning thee, and on hands shall they bear thee, lest in anywise thou strike thy foot against a stone.

7 J esús le dijo: Escrito está también: No tentarás al Señor tu Dios.

Jesus said to him, It is again written, Thou shalt not tempt Lord thy God.

8 O tra vez le llevó el diablo a un monte muy alto, y le mostró todos los reinos del mundo y la gloria de ellos,

Again the devil takes him to a very high mountain, and shews him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory,

9 y le dijo: Todo esto te daré, si postrado me adorares.

and says to him, All these things will I give thee if, falling down, thou wilt do me homage.

10 E ntonces Jesús le dijo: Vete, Satanás, porque escrito está: Al Señor tu Dios adorarás, y a él sólo servirás.

Then says Jesus to him, Get thee away, Satan, for it is written, Thou shalt do homage to Lord thy God, and him alone shalt thou serve.

11 E l diablo entonces le dejó; y he aquí vinieron ángeles y le servían. Jesús principia su ministerio (Mr. 1. 14-20; Lc. 4. 14-15; 5. 1-11; 6. 17-19)

Then the devil leaves him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him.

12 C uando Jesús oyó que Juan estaba preso, volvió a Galilea;

But having heard that John was delivered up, he departed into Galilee:

13 y dejando a Nazaret, vino y habitó en Capernaum, ciudad marítima, en la región de Zabulón y de Neftalí,

and having left Nazareth, he went and dwelt at Capernaum, which is on the sea-side in the borders of Zabulon and Nepthalim,

14 p ara que se cumpliese lo dicho por el profeta Isaías, cuando dijo:

that that might be fulfilled which was spoken through Esaias the prophet, saying,

15 T ierra de Zabulón y tierra de Neftalí, Camino del mar, al otro lado del Jordán, Galilea de los gentiles;

Land of Zabulon and land of Nepthalim, way of sea beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations:

16 E l pueblo asentado en tinieblas vio gran luz; Y a los asentados en región de sombra de muerte, Luz les resplandeció. m

—the people sitting in darkness has seen a great light, and to those sitting in country and shadow of death, to them has light sprung up.

17 D esde entonces comenzó Jesús a predicar, y a decir: Arrepentíos, porque el reino de los cielos se ha acercado.

From that time began Jesus to preach and to say, Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens has drawn nigh.

18 A ndando Jesús junto al mar de Galilea, vio a dos hermanos, Simón, llamado Pedro, y Andrés su hermano, que echaban la red en el mar; porque eran pescadores.

And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers;

19 Y les dijo: Venid en pos de mí, y os haré pescadores de hombres.

and he says to them, Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.

20 E llos entonces, dejando al instante las redes, le siguieron.

And they, having left their trawl-nets, immediately followed him.

21 P asando de allí, vio a otros dos hermanos, Jacobo hijo de Zebedeo, y Juan su hermano, en la barca con Zebedeo su padre, que remendaban sus redes; y los llamó.

And going on thence he saw other two brothers, James the of Zebedee and John his brother, in the ship with Zebedee their father, mending their trawl-nets, and he called them;

22 Y ellos, dejando al instante la barca y a su padre, le siguieron.

and they, having left the ship and their father, immediately followed him.

23 Y recorrió Jesús toda Galilea, enseñando en las sinagogas de ellos, y predicando el evangelio del reino, y sanando toda enfermedad y toda dolencia en el pueblo.

And went round the whole Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the glad tidings of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every bodily weakness among the people.

24 Y se difundió su fama por toda Siria; y le trajeron todos los que tenían dolencias, los afligidos por diversas enfermedades y tormentos, los endemoniados, lunáticos y paralíticos; y los sanó.

And his fame went out into the whole Syria, and they brought to him all that were ill, suffering under various diseases and pains, and those possessed by demons, and lunatics, and paralytics; and he healed them.

25 Y le siguió mucha gente de Galilea, de Decápolis, de Jerusalén, de Judea y del otro lado del Jordán.

And great crowds followed him from Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judaea, and beyond the Jordan.
