1 C uando Adonisedec rey de Jerusalén oyó que Josué había tomado a Hai, y que la había asolado (como había hecho a Jericó y a su rey, así hizo a Hai y a su rey), y que los moradores de Gabaón habían hecho paz con los israelitas, y que estaban entre ellos,

And it came to pass when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had taken Ai and had utterly destroyed it, that he had done to Ai and its king as he had done to Jericho and its king, and that the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them,

2 t uvo gran temor; porque Gabaón era una gran ciudad, como una de las ciudades reales, y mayor que Hai, y todos sus hombres eran fuertes.

that they feared greatly; for Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and it was greater than Ai, and all its men were mighty.

3 P or lo cual Adonisedec rey de Jerusalén envió a Hoham rey de Hebrón, a Piream rey de Jarmut, a Jafía rey de Laquis y a Debir rey de Eglón, diciendo:

And Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, and to Piream king of Jarmuth, and to Japhia king of Lachish, and to Debir king of Eglon, saying,

4 S ubid a mí y ayudadme, y combatamos a Gabaón; porque ha hecho paz con Josué y con los hijos de Israel.

Come up to me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon; for it has made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.

5 Y cinco reyes de los amorreos, el rey de Jerusalén, el rey de Hebrón, el rey de Jarmut, el rey de Laquis y el rey de Eglón, se juntaron y subieron, ellos con todos sus ejércitos, y acamparon cerca de Gabaón, y pelearon contra ella.

And the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their armies, and they encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.

6 E ntonces los moradores de Gabaón enviaron a decir a Josué al campamento en Gilgal: No niegues ayuda a tus siervos; sube prontamente a nosotros para defendernos y ayudarnos; porque todos los reyes de los amorreos que habitan en las montañas se han unido contra nosotros.

And the men of Gibeon sent to Joshua, to the camp at Gilgal, saying, Withdraw not thy hand from thy servants: come up to us quickly, and save us and help us; for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill-country are gathered against us.

7 Y subió Josué de Gilgal, él y todo el pueblo de guerra con él, y todos los hombres valientes.

So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he and all the people of war with him, even all the valiant men.

8 Y Jehová dijo a Josué: No tengas temor de ellos; porque yo los he entregado en tu mano, y ninguno de ellos prevalecerá delante de ti.

And Jehovah said to Joshua, Fear them not; for into thy hand have I given them: not a man of them shall stand before thee.

9 Y Josué vino a ellos de repente, habiendo subido toda la noche desde Gilgal.

And Joshua came upon them suddenly; he went up from Gilgal all night.

10 Y Jehová los llenó de consternación delante de Israel, y los hirió con gran mortandad en Gabaón; y los siguió por el camino que sube a Bet-horón, y los hirió hasta Azeca y Maceda.

And Jehovah discomfited them before Israel, and smote them a great slaughter at Gibeon; and he chased them on the way of the ascent of Beth-horon, and smote them up to Azekah and Makkedah.

11 Y mientras iban huyendo de los israelitas, a la bajada de Bet-horón, Jehová arrojó desde el cielo grandes piedras sobre ellos hasta Azeca, y murieron; y fueron más los que murieron por las piedras del granizo, que los que los hijos de Israel mataron a espada.

And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel,—they were at the descent of Beth-horon,—that Jehovah cast down great stones from heaven upon them up to Azekah, and they died. They were more who died with the hailstones than they whom the children of Israel had slain with the sword.

12 E ntonces Josué habló a Jehová el día en que Jehová entregó al amorreo delante de los hijos de Israel, y dijo en presencia de los israelitas: Sol, detente en Gabaón; Y tú, luna, en el valle de Ajalón.

Then spoke Joshua to Jehovah in the day when Jehovah gave up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand still upon Gibeon; And thou, moon, in the valley of Ajalon!

13 Y el sol se detuvo y la luna se paró, Hasta que la gente se hubo vengado de sus enemigos. m ¿No está escrito esto en el libro de Jaser? Y el sol se paró en medio del cielo, y no se apresuró a ponerse casi un día entero.

And the sun stood still, and the moon remained where it was, until the nation had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? And the sun remained standing in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a full day.

14 Y no hubo día como aquel, ni antes ni después de él, habiendo atendido Jehová a la voz de un hombre; porque Jehová peleaba por Israel.

And there was no day like that before it or after it, that Jehovah hearkened to the voice of a man; for Jehovah fought for Israel.

15 Y Josué, y todo Israel con él, volvió al campamento en Gilgal.

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp, to Gilgal.

16 Y los cinco reyes huyeron, y se escondieron en una cueva en Maceda.

And these five kings fled, and hid themselves in the cave at Makkedah.

17 Y fue dado aviso a Josué que los cinco reyes habían sido hallados escondidos en una cueva en Maceda.

And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings have been found, hid in the cave at Makkedah.

18 E ntonces Josué dijo: Rodad grandes piedras a la entrada de la cueva, y poned hombres junto a ella para que los guarden;

And Joshua said, Roll great stones before the mouth of the cave, and set men before it to keep them.

19 y vosotros no os detengáis, sino seguid a vuestros enemigos, y heridles la retaguardia, sin dejarles entrar en sus ciudades; porque Jehová vuestro Dios los ha entregado en vuestra mano.

And ye, stay not, pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities; for Jehovah your God has given them into your hand.

20 Y aconteció que cuando Josué y los hijos de Israel acabaron de herirlos con gran mortandad hasta destruirlos, los que quedaron de ellos se metieron en las ciudades fortificadas.

And it came to pass when Joshua and the children of Israel had ended smiting them with a very great slaughter, until they were consumed, that the remnant which remained of them entered into fortified cities;

21 T odo el pueblo volvió sano y salvo a Josué, al campamento en Maceda; no hubo quien moviese su lengua contra ninguno de los hijos de Israel.

and all the people returned to the camp to Joshua, at Makkedah, in peace; none moved his tongue against the children of Israel.

22 E ntonces dijo Josué: Abrid la entrada de la cueva, y sacad de ella a esos cinco reyes.

And Joshua said, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring forth to me those five kings out of the cave.

23 Y lo hicieron así, y sacaron de la cueva a aquellos cinco reyes: al rey de Jerusalén, al rey de Hebrón, al rey de Jarmut, al rey de Laquis y al rey de Eglón.

And they did so, and brought forth to him those five kings out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon.

24 Y cuando los hubieron llevado a Josué, llamó Josué a todos los varones de Israel, y dijo a los principales de la gente de guerra que habían venido con él: Acercaos, y poned vuestros pies sobre los cuellos de estos reyes. Y ellos se acercaron y pusieron sus pies sobre los cuellos de ellos.

And it came to pass when they had brought forth those kings to Joshua, that Joshua called to all the men of Israel, and said to the captains of the men of war who went with him, Come forward, put your feet on the necks of these kings. And they came forward and put their feet on their necks.

25 Y Josué les dijo: No temáis, ni os atemoricéis; sed fuertes y valientes, porque así hará Jehová a todos vuestros enemigos contra los cuales peleáis.

And Joshua said to them, Fear not, neither be dismayed; be strong and courageous, for thus will Jehovah do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.

26 Y después de esto Josué los hirió y los mató, y los hizo colgar en cinco maderos; y quedaron colgados en los maderos hasta caer la noche.

And afterwards Joshua smote them, and put them to death, and hanged them on five trees; and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.

27 Y cuando el sol se iba a poner, mandó Josué que los quitasen de los maderos, y los echasen en la cueva donde se habían escondido; y pusieron grandes piedras a la entrada de la cueva, las cuales permanecen hasta hoy.

And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave where they had been hid, and laid great stones before the cave's mouth, to this very day.

28 E n aquel mismo día tomó Josué a Maceda, y la hirió a filo de espada, y mató a su rey; por completo los destruyó, con todo lo que en ella tenía vida, sin dejar nada; e hizo al rey de Maceda como había hecho al rey de Jericó.

And Joshua took Makkedah on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, him and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed; he let none remain; and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.

29 Y de Maceda pasó Josué, y todo Israel con él, a Libna; y peleó contra Libna;

And Joshua passed, and all Israel with him, from Makkedah to Libnah, and fought against Libnah.

30 y Jehová la entregó también a ella y a su rey en manos de Israel; y la hirió a filo de espada, con todo lo que en ella tenía vida, sin dejar nada; e hizo a su rey de la manera como había hecho al rey de Jericó.

And Jehovah gave it also and the king thereof into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it: and he did to the king thereof as he had done to the king of Jericho.

31 Y Josué, y todo Israel con él, pasó de Libna a Laquis, y acampó cerca de ella, y la combatió;

And Joshua passed, and all Israel with him, from Libnah to Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it.

32 y Jehová entregó a Laquis en mano de Israel, y la tomó al día siguiente, y la hirió a filo de espada, con todo lo que en ella tenía vida, así como había hecho en Libna.

And Jehovah gave Lachish into the hand of Israel; and they took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

33 E ntonces Horam rey de Gezer subió en ayuda de Laquis; mas a él y a su pueblo destruyó Josué, hasta no dejar a ninguno de ellos.

Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.

34 D e Laquis pasó Josué, y todo Israel con él, a Eglón; y acamparon cerca de ella, y la combatieron;

And Joshua, and all Israel with him, passed from Lachish to Eglon; and they encamped against it, and fought against it.

35 y la tomaron el mismo día, y la hirieron a filo de espada; y aquel día mató a todo lo que en ella tenía vida, como había hecho en Laquis.

And they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword; and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed on that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

36 S ubió luego Josué, y todo Israel con él, de Eglón a Hebrón, y la combatieron.

And Joshua went up, and all Israel with him, from Eglon to Hebron; and they fought against it.

37 Y tomándola, la hirieron a filo de espada, a su rey y a todas sus ciudades, con todo lo que en ella tenía vida, sin dejar nada; como había hecho a Eglón, así la destruyeron con todo lo que en ella tenía vida.

And they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein: he let none remain, according to all that he had done to Eglon; and he utterly destroyed it, and all the souls that were therein.

38 D espués volvió Josué, y todo Israel con él, sobre Debir, y combatió contra ella;

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it.

39 y la tomó, y a su rey, y a todas sus ciudades; y las hirieron a filo de espada, y destruyeron todo lo que allí dentro tenía vida, sin dejar nada; como había hecho a Hebrón, y como había hecho a Libna y a su rey, así hizo a Debir y a su rey.

And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: as he had done to Hebron, and as he had done to Libnah, and to the king thereof, so he did to Debir and to the king thereof.

40 H irió, pues, Josué toda la región de las montañas, del Neguev, de los llanos y de las laderas, y a todos sus reyes, sin dejar nada; todo lo que tenía vida lo mató, como Jehová Dios de Israel se lo había mandado.

And Joshua smote the whole country, the mountain, and the south, and the lowland, and the hill-slopes, and all their kings: he let none remain, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Jehovah the God of Israel had commanded.

41 Y los hirió Josué desde Cades-barnea hasta Gaza, y toda la tierra de Gosén hasta Gabaón.

And Joshua smote them from Kadesh-barnea even to Gazah, and all the country of Goshen, even to Gibeon;

42 T odos estos reyes y sus tierras los tomó Josué de una vez; porque Jehová el Dios de Israel peleaba por Israel.

and all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time; for Jehovah the God of Israel fought for Israel.

43 Y volvió Josué, y todo Israel con él, al campamento en Gilgal.

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp, to Gilgal.
