1 S ucedió un día, que enseñando Jesús al pueblo en el templo, y anunciando el evangelio, llegaron los principales sacerdotes y los escribas, con los ancianos,

And it came to pass on one of the days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and announcing the glad tidings, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders came up,

2 y le hablaron diciendo: Dinos: ¿con qué autoridad haces estas cosas? ¿o quién es el que te ha dado esta autoridad?

and spoke to him saying, Tell us by what authority thou doest these things, or who is it who has given thee this authority?

3 R espondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Os haré yo también una pregunta; respondedme:

And he answering said to them, I also will ask you thing, and tell me:

4 E l bautismo de Juan, ¿era del cielo, o de los hombres?

The baptism of John, was it of heaven or of men?

5 E ntonces ellos discutían entre sí, diciendo: Si decimos, del cielo, dirá: ¿Por qué, pues, no le creísteis?

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we should say, Of heaven, he will say, Why have ye not believed him?

6 Y si decimos, de los hombres, todo el pueblo nos apedreará; porque están persuadidos de que Juan era profeta.

but if we should say, Of men, the whole people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.

7 Y respondieron que no sabían de dónde fuese.

And they answered, they did not know whence.

8 E ntonces Jesús les dijo: Yo tampoco os diré con qué autoridad hago estas cosas. Los labradores malvados (Mt. 21. 33-44; Mr. 12. 1-11)

And Jesus said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.

9 C omenzó luego a decir al pueblo esta parábola: Un hombre plantó una viña, la arrendó a labradores, y se ausentó por mucho tiempo.

And he began to speak to the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard and let it out to husbandmen, and left the country for a long time.

10 Y a su tiempo envió un siervo a los labradores, para que le diesen del fruto de la viña; pero los labradores le golpearon, y le enviaron con las manos vacías.

And in the season he sent to the husbandmen a bondman, that they might give to him of the fruit of the vineyard; but the husbandmen, having beaten him, sent away empty.

11 V olvió a enviar otro siervo; mas ellos a éste también, golpeado y afrentado, le enviaron con las manos vacías.

And again he sent another bondman; but they, having beaten him also, and cast insult upon him, sent away empty.

12 V olvió a enviar un tercer siervo; mas ellos también a éste echaron fuera, herido.

And again he sent a third; and they, having wounded him also, cast out.

13 E ntonces el señor de la viña dijo: ¿Qué haré? Enviaré a mi hijo amado; quizá cuando le vean a él, le tendrán respeto.

And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: perhaps when they see him they will respect.

14 M as los labradores, al verle, discutían entre sí, diciendo: Este es el heredero; venid, matémosle, para que la heredad sea nuestra.

But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may become ours.

15 Y le echaron fuera de la viña, y le mataron. ¿Qué, pues, les hará el señor de la viña?

And having cast him forth out of the vineyard, they killed. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do to them?

16 V endrá y destruirá a estos labradores, y dará su viña a otros. Cuando ellos oyeron esto, dijeron:!! Dios nos libre!

He will come and destroy those husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it they said, May it never be!

17 P ero él, mirándolos, dijo: ¿Qué, pues, es lo que está escrito: La piedra que desecharon los edificadores Ha venido a ser cabeza del ángulo? m

But he looking at them said, What then is this that is written, The stone which they that builded rejected, this has become the corner-stone?

18 T odo el que cayere sobre aquella piedra, será quebrantado; mas sobre quien ella cayere, le desmenuzará. La cuestión del tributo (Mt. 21. 45-46; 22. 15-22; Mr. 12. 12-17)

Every one falling on this stone shall be broken, but on whomsoever it shall fall, it shall grind him to powder.

19 P rocuraban los principales sacerdotes y los escribas echarle mano en aquella hora, porque comprendieron que contra ellos había dicho esta parábola; pero temieron al pueblo.

And the chief priests and the scribes sought the same hour to lay hands on him, and they feared the people; for they knew that he had spoken this parable of them.

20 Y acechándole enviaron espías que se simulasen justos, a fin de sorprenderle en alguna palabra, para entregarle al poder y autoridad del gobernador.

And having watched, they sent out suborned persons, pretending to be just men, that they might take hold of him in language, so that they might deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.

21 Y le preguntaron, diciendo: Maestro, sabemos que dices y enseñas rectamente, y que no haces acepción de persona, sino que enseñas el camino de Dios con verdad.

And they asked him saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and acceptest no person, but teachest with truth the way of God:

22 ¿ Nos es lícito dar tributo a César, o no?

Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

23 M as él, comprendiendo la astucia de ellos, les dijo: ¿Por qué me tentáis?

But perceiving their deceit he said to them, Why do ye tempt me?

24 M ostradme la moneda. ¿De quién tiene la imagen y la inscripción? Y respondiendo dijeron: De César.

Shew me a denarius. Whose image and superscription has it? And answering they said, Caesar's.

25 E ntonces les dijo: Pues dad a César lo que es de César, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.

And he said to them, Pay therefore what is Caesar's to Caesar, and what is God's to God.

26 Y no pudieron sorprenderle en palabra alguna delante del pueblo, sino que maravillados de su respuesta, callaron. La pregunta sobre la resurrección (Mt. 22. 23-33; Mr. 12. 18-27)

And they were not able to take hold of him in expressions before the people, and, wondering at his answer, they were silent.

27 L legando entonces algunos de los saduceos, los cuales niegan haber resurrección, le preguntaron,

And some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is any resurrection, coming up,

28 d iciendo: Maestro, Moisés nos escribió: Si el hermano de alguno muriere teniendo mujer, y no dejare hijos, que su hermano se case con ella, y levante descendencia a su hermano.

demanded of him saying, Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If any one's brother, who has a wife, die, and he die childless, his brother shall take the wife and raise up seed to his brother.

29 H ubo, pues, siete hermanos; y el primero tomó esposa, y murió sin hijos.

There were then seven brethren: and the first, having taken a wife, died childless;

30 Y la tomó el segundo, el cual también murió sin hijos.

and the second;

31 L a tomó el tercero, y así todos los siete, y murieron sin dejar descendencia.

and the third took her: and in like manner also the seven left no children and died;

32 F inalmente murió también la mujer.

and last of all the woman also died.

33 E n la resurrección, pues, ¿de cuál de ellos será mujer, ya que los siete la tuvieron por mujer?

In the resurrection therefore of which of them does she become wife, for the seven had her as wife?

34 E ntonces respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Los hijos de este siglo se casan, y se dan en casamiento;

And Jesus said to them, The sons of this world marry and are given in marriage,

35 m as los que fueren tenidos por dignos de alcanzar aquel siglo y la resurrección de entre los muertos, ni se casan, ni se dan en casamiento.

but they who are counted worthy to have part in that world, and the resurrection from among dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage;

36 P orque no pueden ya más morir, pues son iguales a los ángeles, y son hijos de Dios, al ser hijos de la resurrección.

for neither can they die any more, for they are equal to angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

37 P ero en cuanto a que los muertos han de resucitar, aun Moisés lo enseñó en el pasaje de la zarza, cuando llama al Señor, Dios de Abraham, Dios de Isaac y Dios de Jacob.

But that the dead rise, even Moses shewed in the bush, when he called Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob;

38 P orque Dios no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos, pues para él todos viven.

but he is not God of dead but of living; for all live for him.

39 R espondiéndole algunos de los escribas, dijeron: Maestro, bien has dicho.

And some of the scribes answering said, Teacher, thou hast well spoken.

40 Y no osaron preguntarle nada más. ¿De quién es hijo el Cristo? (Mt. 22. 41-46; Mr. 12. 35-37)

For they did not dare any more to ask him anything.

41 E ntonces él les dijo: ¿Cómo dicen que el Cristo es hijo de David?

And he said to them, How do they say that the Christ is David's son,

42 P ues el mismo David dice en el libro de los Salmos: Dijo el Señor a mi Señor: Siéntate a mi diestra,

and David himself says in the book of Psalms, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand

43 H asta que ponga a tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies.

until I put thine enemies footstool of thy feet?

44 D avid, pues, le llama Señor; ¿cómo entonces es su hijo? Jesús acusa a los escribas (Mt. 23. 1-36; Mr. 12. 38-40; Lc. 11. 37-54)

David therefore calls him Lord, and how is he his son?

45 Y oyéndole todo el pueblo, dijo a sus discípulos:

And, as all the people were listening, he said to his disciples,

46 G uardaos de los escribas, que gustan de andar con ropas largas, y aman las salutaciones en las plazas, y las primeras sillas en las sinagogas, y los primeros asientos en las cenas;

Beware of the scribes, who like to walk about in long robes, and who love salutations in the market-places, and first seats in the synagogues, and first places at suppers;

47 q ue devoran las casas de las viudas, y por pretexto hacen largas oraciones; éstos recibirán mayor condenación.

who devour the houses of widows, and as a pretext make long prayers. These shall receive a severer judgment.
