1 P asados muchos días, vino palabra de Jehová a Elías en el tercer año, diciendo: Ve, muéstrate a Acab, y yo haré llover sobre la faz de la tierra.

And it came to pass after many days, that the word of Jehovah came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself to Ahab; and I will send rain upon the face of the earth.

2 F ue, pues, Elías a mostrarse a Acab. Y el hambre era grave en Samaria.

And Elijah went to shew himself to Ahab. And the famine was severe in Samaria.

3 Y Acab llamó a Abdías su mayordomo. Abdías era en gran manera temeroso de Jehová.

And Ahab called Obadiah, who was the steward of his house (now Obadiah feared Jehovah greatly;

4 P orque cuando Jezabel destruía a los profetas de Jehová, Abdías tomó a cien profetas y los escondió de cincuenta en cincuenta en cuevas, y los sustentó con pan y agua.

and it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and maintained them with bread and water);

5 D ijo, pues, Acab a Abdías: Ve por el país a todas las fuentes de aguas, y a todos los arroyos, a ver si acaso hallaremos hierba con que conservemos la vida a los caballos y a las mulas, para que no nos quedemos sin bestias.

and Ahab said to Obadiah, Go through the land, to all the fountains of water and to all the torrents, perhaps we may find grass to save the horses and the mules alive, so that we may not have to destroy some of beasts.

6 Y dividieron entre sí el país para recorrerlo; Acab fue por un camino, y Abdías fue separadamente por otro.

And they divided the land between them to pass through it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.

7 Y yendo Abdías por el camino, se encontró con Elías; y cuando lo reconoció, se postró sobre su rostro y dijo: ¿No eres tú mi señor Elías?

And as Obadiah was on the way, behold, Elijah met him; and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Is it indeed thou, my lord Elijah?

8 Y él respondió: Yo soy; ve, di a tu amo: Aquí está Elías.

And he said to him, I: go, say to thy lord, Behold Elijah!

9 P ero él dijo: ¿En qué he pecado, para que entregues a tu siervo en mano de Acab para que me mate?

And he said, What have I sinned, that thou givest thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to put me to death?

10 V ive Jehová tu Dios, que no ha habido nación ni reino adonde mi señor no haya enviado a buscarte, y todos han respondido: No está aquí; y a reinos y a naciones él ha hecho jurar que no te han hallado.

As Jehovah thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom whither my lord has not sent to seek thee; and when they said, He is not, he took an oath of the kingdom or nation that they found thee not.

11 ¿ Y ahora tú dices: Ve, di a tu amo: Aquí está Elías?

And now thou sayest, Go, say to thy lord, Behold Elijah!

12 A contecerá que luego que yo me haya ido, el Espíritu de Jehová te llevará adonde yo no sepa, y al venir yo y dar las nuevas a Acab, al no hallarte él, me matará; y tu siervo teme a Jehová desde su juventud.

And it shall come to pass when I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of Jehovah shall carry thee whither I know not; and when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he will kill me; and I thy servant fear Jehovah from my youth.

13 ¿ No ha sido dicho a mi señor lo que hice, cuando Jezabel mataba a los profetas de Jehová; que escondí a cien varones de los profetas de Jehová de cincuenta en cincuenta en cuevas, y los mantuve con pan y agua?

Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of Jehovah, how I hid a hundred men of Jehovah's prophets by fifty in a cave, and maintained them with bread and water?

14 ¿ Y ahora dices tú: Ve, di a tu amo: Aquí está Elías; para que él me mate?

And now thou sayest, Go, say to thy lord, Behold Elijah! and he will kill me.

15 Y le dijo Elías: Vive Jehová de los ejércitos, en cuya presencia estoy, que hoy me mostraré a él.

And Elijah said, As Jehovah of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will certainly shew myself to him to-day.

16 E ntonces Abdías fue a encontrarse con Acab, y le dio el aviso; y Acab vino a encontrarse con Elías.

Then Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him. And Ahab went to meet Elijah.

17 C uando Acab vio a Elías, le dijo: ¿Eres tú el que turbas a Israel?

And it came to pass when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, Is it thou, the troubler of Israel?

18 Y él respondió: Yo no he turbado a Israel, sino tú y la casa de tu padre, dejando los mandamientos de Jehová, y siguiendo a los baales.

And he said, I have not troubled Israel, but thou and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of Jehovah, and thou hast followed the Baals.

19 E nvía, pues, ahora y congrégame a todo Israel en el monte Carmelo, y los cuatrocientos cincuenta profetas de Baal, y los cuatrocientos profetas de Asera, que comen de la mesa de Jezabel. Elías y los profetas de Baal

And now send, gather to me all Israel to mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the Asherah four hundred, who eat at Jezebel's table.

20 E ntonces Acab convocó a todos los hijos de Israel, y reunió a los profetas en el monte Carmelo.

So Ahab sent to all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.

21 Y acercándose Elías a todo el pueblo, dijo: ¿Hasta cuándo claudicaréis vosotros entre dos pensamientos? Si Jehová es Dios, seguidle; y si Baal, id en pos de él. Y el pueblo no respondió palabra.

Then Elijah drew near to all the people, and said, How long do ye halt between two opinions? if Jehovah be God, follow him; and if Baal, follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

22 Y Elías volvió a decir al pueblo: Sólo yo he quedado profeta de Jehová; mas de los profetas de Baal hay cuatrocientos cincuenta hombres.

And Elijah said to the people, I, only I, remain a prophet of Jehovah; and Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.

23 D énsenos, pues, dos bueyes, y escojan ellos uno, y córtenlo en pedazos, y pónganlo sobre leña, pero no pongan fuego debajo; y yo prepararé el otro buey, y lo pondré sobre leña, y ningún fuego pondré debajo.

Let them therefore give us two bullocks: and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and put it on the wood, and put no fire; and I will sacrifice the other bullock, and put it on the wood, and put no fire.

24 I nvocad luego vosotros el nombre de vuestros dioses, y yo invocaré el nombre de Jehová; y el Dios que respondiere por medio de fuego, ése sea Dios. Y todo el pueblo respondió, diciendo: Bien dicho.

And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of Jehovah; and the god that answers by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, The word is good.

25 E ntonces Elías dijo a los profetas de Baal: Escogeos un buey, y preparadlo vosotros primero, pues que sois los más; e invocad el nombre de vuestros dioses, mas no pongáis fuego debajo.

And Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, Choose one bullock for yourselves, and sacrifice it first; for ye are the many; and call on the name of your god, but put no fire.

26 Y ellos tomaron el buey que les fue dado y lo prepararon, e invocaron el nombre de Baal desde la mañana hasta el mediodía, diciendo:!! Baal, respóndenos! Pero no había voz, ni quien respondiese; entre tanto, ellos andaban saltando cerca del altar que habían hecho.

And they took the bullock which had been given them, and sacrificed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, O Baal, answer us! But there was no voice, and none answered. And they leaped about the altar that had been made.

27 Y aconteció al mediodía, que Elías se burlaba de ellos, diciendo: Gritad en alta voz, porque dios es; quizá está meditando, o tiene algún trabajo, o va de camino; tal vez duerme, y hay que despertarle.

And it came to pass at noon that Elijah mocked them and said, Cry aloud; for he is a god; for he is meditating, or gone aside, or he is on a journey; perhaps he sleeps, and will awake.

28 Y ellos clamaban a grandes voces, y se sajaban con cuchillos y con lancetas conforme a su costumbre, hasta chorrear la sangre sobre ellos.

And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with swords and spears, till the blood gushed out upon them.

29 P asó el mediodía, y ellos siguieron gritando frenéticamente hasta la hora de ofrecerse el sacrificio, pero no hubo ninguna voz, ni quien respondiese ni escuchase.

And it came to pass when midday was past, that they prophesied until the of the offering up of the oblation; but there was neither voice, nor any that answered, nor any attention.

30 E ntonces dijo Elías a todo el pueblo: Acercaos a mí. Y todo el pueblo se le acercó; y él arregló el altar de Jehová que estaba arruinado.

Then Elijah said to all the people, Draw near to me. And all the people drew near to him. And he repaired the altar of Jehovah which was broken down.

31 Y tomando Elías doce piedras, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Jacob, al cual había sido dada palabra de Jehová diciendo, Israel será tu nombre,

And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of Jehovah came saying, Israel shall be thy name;

32 e dificó con las piedras un altar en el nombre de Jehová; después hizo una zanja alrededor del altar, en que cupieran dos medidas de grano.

and with the stones he built an altar in the name of Jehovah, and made a trench round about the altar, of the capacity of two measures of seed;

33 P reparó luego la leña, y cortó el buey en pedazos, y lo puso sobre la leña.

and he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid it on the wood. And he said, Fill four pitchers with water, and pour it on the burnt-offering, and on the wood.

34 Y dijo: Llenad cuatro cántaros de agua, y derramadla sobre el holocausto y sobre la leña. Y dijo: Hacedlo otra vez; y otra vez lo hicieron. Dijo aún: Hacedlo la tercera vez; y lo hicieron la tercera vez,

And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.

35 d e manera que el agua corría alrededor del altar, y también se había llenado de agua la zanja.

And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.

36 C uando llegó la hora de ofrecerse el holocausto, se acercó el profeta Elías y dijo: Jehová Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Israel, sea hoy manifiesto que tú eres Dios en Israel, y que yo soy tu siervo, y que por mandato tuyo he hecho todas estas cosas.

And it came to pass at the offering up of the oblation, that Elijah the prophet drew near, and said, Jehovah, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things by thy word.

37 R espóndeme, Jehová, respóndeme, para que conozca este pueblo que tú, oh Jehová, eres el Dios, y que tú vuelves a ti el corazón de ellos.

Answer me, Jehovah, answer me, that this people may know that thou Jehovah art God, and thou hast turned their heart back again.

38 E ntonces cayó fuego de Jehová, y consumió el holocausto, la leña, las piedras y el polvo, y aun lamió el agua que estaba en la zanja.

And the fire of Jehovah fell, and consumed the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

39 V iéndolo todo el pueblo, se postraron y dijeron:!! Jehová es el Dios, Jehová es el Dios!

And all the people saw, and they fell on their faces and said, Jehovah, he is God! Jehovah, he is God!

40 E ntonces Elías les dijo: Prended a los profetas de Baal, para que no escape ninguno. Y ellos los prendieron; y los llevó Elías al arroyo de Cisón, y allí los degolló. Elías ora por lluvia

And Elijah said to them, Seize the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape! And they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the torrent of Kishon, and slaughtered them there.

41 E ntonces Elías dijo a Acab: Sube, come y bebe; porque una lluvia grande se oye.

And Elijah said to Ahab, Go up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.

42 A cab subió a comer y a beber. Y Elías subió a la cumbre del Carmelo, y postrándose en tierra, puso su rostro entre las rodillas.

And Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bowed down on the earth, and put his face between his knees.

43 Y dijo a su criado: Sube ahora, y mira hacia el mar. Y él subió, y miró, y dijo: No hay nada. Y él le volvió a decir: Vuelve siete veces.

And he said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up and looked, and said, nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

44 A la séptima vez dijo: Yo veo una pequeña nube como la palma de la mano de un hombre, que sube del mar. Y él dijo: Ve, y di a Acab: Unce tu carro y desciende, para que la lluvia no te ataje.

And it came to pass at the seventh time that he said, Behold there is a cloud, small as a man's hand, arising out of the sea. And he said, Go up, say to Ahab, Harness and go down, that the pour of rain stop thee not.

45 Y aconteció, estando en esto, que los cielos se oscurecieron con nubes y viento, y hubo una gran lluvia. Y subiendo Acab, vino a Jezreel.

And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heavens became black clouds and wind, and there was a great pour of rain. And Ahab got on the chariot, and went to Jizreel.

46 Y la mano de Jehová estuvo sobre Elías, el cual ciñó sus lomos, y corrió delante de Acab hasta llegar a Jezreel.

And the hand of Jehovah was upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jizreel.
