1 C uando el rey David era viejo y avanzado en días, le cubrían de ropas, pero no se calentaba.

And king David was old advanced in age; and they covered him with clothes, but he obtained no warmth.

2 L e dijeron, por tanto, sus siervos: Busquen para mi señor el rey una joven virgen, para que esté delante del rey y lo abrigue, y duerma a su lado, y entrará en calor mi señor el rey.

And his servants said to him, Let there be found for my lord the king a young virgin; and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get warm.

3 Y buscaron una joven hermosa por toda la tierra de Israel, y hallaron a Abisag sunamita, y la trajeron al rey.

And they sought for a fair damsel throughout the territory of Israel, and found Abishag a Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

4 Y la joven era hermosa; y ella abrigaba al rey, y le servía; pero el rey nunca la conoció. Adonías usurpa el trono

And the damsel was very fair; and cherished the king, and ministered to him; but the king knew her not.

5 E ntonces Adonías hijo de Haguit se rebeló, diciendo: Yo reinaré. Y se hizo de carros y de gente de a caballo, y de cincuenta hombres que corriesen delante de él.

And Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king; and he provided himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

6 Y su padre nunca le había entristecido en todos sus días con decirle: ¿Por qué haces así? Además, éste era de muy hermoso parecer; y había nacido después de Absalón.

And his father had not grieved him at any time in saying, Why doest thou so? and he was also a very comely man; and bore him after Absalom.

7 Y se había puesto de acuerdo con Joab hijo de Sarvia y con el sacerdote Abiatar, los cuales ayudaban a Adonías.

And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest; and they helped Adonijah and followed.

8 P ero el sacerdote Sadoc, y Benaía hijo de Joiada, el profeta Natán, Simei, Rei y todos los grandes de David, no seguían a Adonías.

But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men whom David had, were not with Adonijah.

9 Y matando Adonías ovejas y vacas y animales gordos junto a la peña de Zohelet, la cual está cerca de la fuente de Rogel, convidó a todos sus hermanos los hijos del rey, y a todos los varones de Judá, siervos del rey;

And Adonijah sacrificed sheep and oxen and fatted cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En-rogel, and invited all his brethren, the king's sons, and all the men of Judah, the king's servants;

10 p ero no convidó al profeta Natán, ni a Benaía, ni a los grandes, ni a Salomón su hermano.

but Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he did not invite.

11 E ntonces habló Natán a Betsabé madre de Salomón, diciendo: ¿No has oído que reina Adonías hijo de Haguit, sin saberlo David nuestro señor?

And Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith is king, and David our lord does not know ?

12 V en pues, ahora, y toma mi consejo, para que conserves tu vida, y la de tu hijo Salomón.

And now, come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.

13 V e y entra al rey David, y dile: Rey señor mío, ¿no juraste a tu sierva, diciendo: Salomón tu hijo reinará después de mí, y él se sentará en mi trono? ¿Por qué, pues, reina Adonías?

Go and get thee in to king David, and say to him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear to thy handmaid saying, Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne? why then does Adonijah reign?

14 Y estando tú aún hablando con el rey, yo entraré tras ti y reafirmaré tus razones.

Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee and confirm thy words.

15 E ntonces Betsabé entró a la cámara del rey; y el rey era muy viejo, y Abisag sunamita le servía.

And Bathsheba went in to the king into the chamber; and the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite ministered to the king.

16 Y Betsabé se inclinó, e hizo reverencia al rey. Y el rey dijo: ¿Qué tienes?

And Bathsheba bowed and did obeisance to the king. And the king said, What wouldest thou?

17 Y ella le respondió: Señor mío, tú juraste a tu sierva por Jehová tu Dios, diciendo: Salomón tu hijo reinará después de mí, y él se sentará en mi trono.

And she said to him, My lord, thou hast sworn by Jehovah thy God to thy handmaid, Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.

18 Y he aquí ahora Adonías reina, y tú, mi señor rey, hasta ahora no lo sabes.

And now behold, Adonijah is king; and now, my lord the king, thou knowest it not.

19 H a matado bueyes, y animales gordos, y muchas ovejas, y ha convidado a todos los hijos del rey, al sacerdote Abiatar, y a Joab general del ejército; mas a Salomón tu siervo no ha convidado.

And he has sacrificed oxen and fatted cattle and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the sons of the king and Abiathar the priest and Joab the captain of the host; but Solomon thy servant has he not invited.

20 E ntre tanto, rey señor mío, los ojos de todo Israel están puestos en ti, para que les declares quién se ha de sentar en el trono de mi señor el rey después de él.

And thou, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

21 D e otra manera sucederá que cuando mi señor el rey duerma con sus padres, yo y mi hijo Salomón seremos tenidos por culpables.

Otherwise it shall come to pass when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be counted offenders.

22 M ientras aún hablaba ella con el rey, he aquí vino el profeta Natán.

And behold, while she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in.

23 Y dieron aviso al rey, diciendo: He aquí el profeta Natán; el cual, cuando entró al rey, se postró delante del rey inclinando su rostro a tierra.

And they told the king saying, Behold, Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

24 Y dijo Natán: Rey señor mío, ¿has dicho tú: Adonías reinará después de mí, y él se sentará en mi trono?

And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne?

25 P orque hoy ha descendido, y ha matado bueyes y animales gordos y muchas ovejas, y ha convidado a todos los hijos del rey, y a los capitanes del ejército, y también al sacerdote Abiatar; y he aquí, están comiendo y bebiendo delante de él, y han dicho:!! Viva el rey Adonías!

For he is gone down this day, and has sacrificed oxen and fatted cattle and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah!

26 P ero ni a mí tu siervo, ni al sacerdote Sadoc, ni a Benaía hijo de Joiada, ni a Salomón tu siervo, ha convidado.

But me, me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and thy servant Solomon, he has not invited.

27 ¿ Es este negocio ordenado por mi señor el rey, sin haber declarado a tus siervos quién se había de sentar en el trono de mi señor el rey después de él? David proclama rey a Salomón

Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not shewn to thy servants who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?

28 E ntonces el rey David respondió y dijo: Llamadme a Betsabé. Y ella entró a la presencia del rey, y se puso delante del rey.

Then king David answered and said, Call me Bathsheba. And she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king.

29 Y el rey juró diciendo: Vive Jehová, que ha redimido mi alma de toda angustia,

And the king swore, and said, Jehovah liveth, who has redeemed my soul out of all distress,

30 q ue como yo te he jurado por Jehová Dios de Israel, diciendo: Tu hijo Salomón reinará después de mí, y él se sentará en mi trono en lugar mío; que así lo haré hoy.

even as I swore to thee by Jehovah the God of Israel, saying, Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day.

31 E ntonces Betsabé se inclinó ante el rey, con su rostro a tierra, y haciendo reverencia al rey, dijo: Viva mi señor el rey David para siempre.

And Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, Let my lord king David live for ever.

32 Y el rey David dijo: Llamadme al sacerdote Sadoc, al profeta Natán, y a Benaía hijo de Joiada. Y ellos entraron a la presencia del rey.

And king David said, Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king.

33 Y el rey les dijo: Tomad con vosotros los siervos de vuestro señor, y montad a Salomón mi hijo en mi mula, y llevadlo a Gihón;

And the king said to them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon;

34 y allí lo ungirán el sacerdote Sadoc y el profeta Natán como rey sobre Israel, y tocaréis trompeta, diciendo:!! Viva el rey Salomón!

and let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel; and blow ye with the trumpet, and say, Long live king Solomon!

35 D espués iréis vosotros detrás de él, y vendrá y se sentará en mi trono, y él reinará por mí; porque a él he escogido para que sea príncipe sobre Israel y sobre Judá.

And ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit on my throne; for he shall reign in my stead, and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.

36 E ntonces Benaía hijo de Joiada respondió al rey y dijo: Amén. Así lo diga Jehová, Dios de mi señor el rey.

And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king and said, Amen: Jehovah, the God of my lord the king, say so too.

37 D e la manera que Jehová ha estado con mi señor el rey, así esté con Salomón, y haga mayor su trono que el trono de mi señor el rey David.

As Jehovah has been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.

38 Y descendieron el sacerdote Sadoc, el profeta Natán, Benaía hijo de Joiada, y los cereteos y los peleteos, y montaron a Salomón en la mula del rey David, y lo llevaron a Gihón.

And Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.

39 Y tomando el sacerdote Sadoc el cuerno del aceite del tabernáculo, ungió a Salomón; y tocaron trompeta, y dijo todo el pueblo:!! Viva el rey Salomón!

And Zadok the priest took the horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, Long live king Solomon!

40 D espués subió todo el pueblo en pos de él, y cantaba la gente con flautas, y hacían grandes alegrías, que parecía que la tierra se hundía con el clamor de ellos.

And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.

41 Y lo oyó Adonías, y todos los convidados que con él estaban, cuando ya habían acabado de comer. Y oyendo Joab el sonido de la trompeta, dijo: ¿Por qué se alborota la ciudad con estruendo?

And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard as they were finishing their repast; and Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, and he said, Wherefore this noise of the city in an uproar?

42 M ientras él aún hablaba, he aquí vino Jonatán hijo del sacerdote Abiatar, al cual dijo Adonías: Entra, porque tú eres hombre valiente, y traerás buenas nuevas.

While he yet spoke, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came; and Adonijah said, Come in; for thou art a valiant man, and bringest good news.

43 J onatán respondió y dijo a Adonías: Ciertamente nuestro señor el rey David ha hecho rey a Salomón;

And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Indeed, our lord king David has made Solomon king.

44 y el rey ha enviado con él al sacerdote Sadoc y al profeta Natán, y a Benaía hijo de Joiada, y también a los cereteos y a los peleteos, los cuales le montaron en la mula del rey;

And the king has sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king's mule;

45 y el sacerdote Sadoc y el profeta Natán lo han ungido por rey en Gihón, y de allí han subido con alegrías, y la ciudad está llena de estruendo. Este es el alboroto que habéis oído.

and Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king at Gihon; and they are come up from thence rejoicing, so that the city is in an uproar. This is the noise which ye have heard.

46 T ambién Salomón se ha sentado en el trono del reino,

And also Solomon is sitting on the throne of the kingdom.

47 y aun los siervos del rey han venido a bendecir a nuestro señor el rey David, diciendo: Dios haga bueno el nombre de Salomón más que tu nombre, y haga mayor su trono que el tuyo. Y el rey adoró en la cama.

And moreover the king's servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, Thy God make the name of Solomon more excellent than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne! And the king bowed himself on the bed.

48 A demás el rey ha dicho así: Bendito sea Jehová Dios de Israel, que ha dado hoy quien se siente en mi trono, viéndolo mis ojos.

And also thus said the king: Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it.

49 E llos entonces se estremecieron, y se levantaron todos los convidados que estaban con Adonías, y se fue cada uno por su camino.

And all Adonijah's guests were afraid, and rose up and went every man his way.

50 M as Adonías, temiendo de la presencia de Salomón, se levantó y se fue, y se asió de los cuernos del altar.

And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose and went and caught hold of the horns of the altar.

51 Y se lo hicieron saber a Salomón, diciendo: He aquí que Adonías tiene miedo del rey Salomón, pues se ha asido de los cuernos del altar, diciendo: Júreme hoy el rey Salomón que no matará a espada a su siervo.

And it was told Solomon saying, Behold, Adonijah fears king Solomon; for behold, he has caught hold of the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear to me this day that he will not put his servant to death with the sword.

52 Y Salomón dijo: Si él fuere hombre de bien, ni uno de sus cabellos caerá en tierra; mas si se hallare mal en él, morirá.

And Solomon said, If he be a worthy man, there shall not one of his hairs fall to the earth; but if wickedness be found in him, he shall die.

53 Y envió el rey Salomón, y lo trajeron del altar; y él vino, y se inclinó ante el rey Salomón. Y Salomón le dijo: Vete a tu casa.

And king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon; and Solomon said to him, Go to thy house.
