1 C uando vino Roboam a Jerusalén, reunió de la casa de Judá y de Benjamín a ciento ochenta mil hombres escogidos de guerra, para pelear contra Israel y hacer volver el reino a Roboam.

And Rehoboam came to Jerusalem; and he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men apt for war, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

2 M as vino palabra de Jehová a Semaías varón de Dios, diciendo:

But the word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

3 H abla a Roboam hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a todos los israelitas en Judá y Benjamín, diciéndoles:

Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

4 A sí ha dicho Jehová: No subáis, ni peleéis contra vuestros hermanos; vuélvase cada uno a su casa, porque yo he hecho esto. Y ellos oyeron la palabra de Jehová y se volvieron, y no fueron contra Jeroboam. Prosperidad de Roboam

Thus saith Jehovah: Go not up, nor fight with your brethren; return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. And they hearkened to the words of Jehovah, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

5 Y habitó Roboam en Jerusalén, y edificó ciudades para fortificar a Judá.

And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.

6 E dificó Belén, Etam, Tecoa,

And he built Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

7 B et-sur, Soco, Adulam,

and Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam,

8 G at, Maresa, Zif,

and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

9 A doraim, Laquis, Azeca,

and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

10 Z ora, Ajalón y Hebrón, que eran ciudades fortificadas de Judá y Benjamín.

and Zorah, and Ajalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.

11 R eforzó también las fortalezas, y puso en ellas capitanes, y provisiones, vino y aceite;

And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of victuals, and of oil and wine;

12 y en todas las ciudades puso escudos y lanzas. Las fortificó, pues, en gran manera; y Judá y Benjamín le estaban sujetos.

and in every several city, targets and spears, and made them exceedingly strong. And Judah and Benjamin were his.

13 Y los sacerdotes y levitas que estaban en todo Israel, se juntaron a él desde todos los lugares donde vivían.

And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their districts;

14 P orque los levitas dejaban sus ejidos y sus posesiones, y venían a Judá y a Jerusalén; pues Jeroboam y sus hijos los excluyeron del ministerio de Jehová.

for the Levites left their suburbs and their possessions, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from exercising the priesthood to Jehovah;

15 Y él designó sus propios sacerdotes para los lugares altos, y para los demonios, y para los becerros que él había hecho.

and he ordained for himself priests for the high places, and for the he-goats and for the calves that he had made.

16 T ras aquellos acudieron también de todas las tribus de Israel los que habían puesto su corazón en buscar a Jehová Dios de Israel; y vinieron a Jerusalén para ofrecer sacrificios a Jehová, el Dios de sus padres.

—And after them, those out of all the tribes of Israel that set their heart to seek Jehovah the God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice to Jehovah the God of their fathers.

17 A sí fortalecieron el reino de Judá, y confirmaron a Roboam hijo de Salomón, por tres años; porque tres años anduvieron en el camino de David y de Salomón.

And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong three years; for during three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

18 Y tomó Roboam por mujer a Mahalat hija de Jerimot, hijo de David y de Abihail hija de Eliab, hijo de Isaí,

And Rehoboam took Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David as wife, Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse.

19 l a cual le dio a luz estos hijos: Jeús, Semarías y Zaham.

And she bore him children: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.

20 D espués de ella tomó a Maaca hija de Absalón, la cual le dio a luz Abías, Atai, Ziza y Selomit.

And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

21 P ero Roboam amó a Maaca hija de Absalón sobre todas sus mujeres y concubinas; porque tomó dieciocho mujeres y sesenta concubinas, y engendró veintiocho hijos y sesenta hijas.

And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines; for he had taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he begot twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.

22 Y puso Roboam a Abías hijo de Maaca por jefe y príncipe de sus hermanos, porque quería hacerle rey.

And Rehoboam established Abijah the son of Maachah at the head, to be ruler among his brethren; for to make him king.

23 O bró sagazmente, y esparció a todos sus hijos por todas las tierras de Judá y de Benjamín, y por todas las ciudades fortificadas, y les dio provisiones en abundancia, y muchas mujeres.

And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to all the fortified cities; and he gave them food in abundance. And he desired a multitude of wives.
