1 N o reprendas al anciano, sino exhórtale como a padre; a los más jóvenes, como a hermanos;

Rebuke not an elder sharply, but exhort as a father, younger as brethren,

2 a las ancianas, como a madres; a las jovencitas, como a hermanas, con toda pureza.

elder women as mothers, younger women as sisters, with all purity.

3 H onra a las viudas que en verdad lo son.

Honour widows who are really widows;

4 P ero si alguna viuda tiene hijos, o nietos, aprendan éstos primero a ser piadosos para con su propia familia, y a recompensar a sus padres; porque esto es lo bueno y agradable delante de Dios.

but if any widow have children or descendants, let them learn first to be pious as regards their own house, and to render a return on their side to parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God.

5 M as la que en verdad es viuda y ha quedado sola, espera en Dios, y es diligente en súplicas y oraciones noche y día.

Now she who a widow indeed, and is left alone, has put hope in God, and continues in supplications and prayers night and day.

6 P ero la que se entrega a los placeres, viviendo está muerta.

But she that lives in habits of self-indulgence is dead living.

7 M anda también estas cosas, para que sean irreprensibles;

And these things enjoin, that they may be irreproachable.

8 p orque si alguno no provee para los suyos, y mayormente para los de su casa, ha negado la fe, y es peor que un incrédulo.

But if any one does not provide for his own, and specially for those of house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than the unbeliever.

9 S ea puesta en la lista sólo la viuda no menor de sesenta años, que haya sido esposa de un solo marido,

Let a widow be put upon the list, being of not less than sixty years, wife of one man,

10 q ue tenga testimonio de buenas obras; si ha criado hijos; si ha practicado la hospitalidad; si ha lavado los pies de los santos; si ha socorrido a los afligidos; si ha practicado toda buena obra.

borne witness to in good works, if she have brought up children, if she have exercised hospitality, if she have washed saints' feet, if she have imparted relief to the distressed, if she have diligently followed every good work.

11 P ero viudas más jóvenes no admitas; porque cuando, impulsadas por sus deseos, se rebelan contra Cristo, quieren casarse,

But younger widows decline; for when they grow wanton against Christ, they desire to marry,

12 i ncurriendo así en condenación, por haber quebrantado su primera fe.

being guilty, because they have cast off their first faith.

13 Y también aprenden a ser ociosas, andando de casa en casa; y no solamente ociosas, sino también chismosas y entremetidas, hablando lo que no debieran.

And, at the same time, they learn also idle, going about to people's houses; and not only idle, but also gossipers and meddlers, speaking things not becoming.

14 Q uiero, pues, que las viudas jóvenes se casen, críen hijos, gobiernen su casa; que no den al adversario ninguna ocasión de maledicencia.

I will therefore that the younger marry, bear children, rule the house, give no occasion to the adversary in respect of reproach.

15 P orque ya algunas se han apartado en pos de Satanás.

For already some have turned aside after Satan.

16 S i algún creyente o alguna creyente tiene viudas, que las mantenga, y no sea gravada la iglesia, a fin de que haya lo suficiente para las que en verdad son viudas.

If any believing man or woman have widows, let them impart relief to them, and let not the assembly be charged, that it may impart relief to those widows indeed.

17 L os ancianos que gobiernan bien, sean tenidos por dignos de doble honor, mayormente los que trabajan en predicar y enseñar.

Let the elders who take the lead well be esteemed worthy of double honour, specially those labouring in word and teaching;

18 P ues la Escritura dice: No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla; y: Digno es el obrero de su salario.

for the scripture says, Thou shalt not muzzle an ox that treadeth out corn, and, The workman worthy of his hire.

19 C ontra un anciano no admitas acusación sino con dos o tres testigos.

Against an elder receive not an accusation unless where there are two or three witnesses.

20 A los que persisten en pecar, repréndelos delante de todos, para que los demás también teman.

Those that sin convict before all, that the rest also may have fear.

21 T e encarezco delante de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, y de sus ángeles escogidos, que guardes estas cosas sin prejuicios, no haciendo nada con parcialidad.

I testify before God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, that thou keep these things without prejudice, doing nothing by favour.

22 N o impongas con ligereza las manos a ninguno, ni participes en pecados ajenos. Consérvate puro.

Lay hands quickly on no man, nor partake in others' sins. Keep thyself pure.

23 Y a no bebas agua, sino usa de un poco de vino por causa de tu estómago y de tus frecuentes enfermedades.

Drink no longer only water, but use a little wine on account of thy stomach and thy frequent illnesses.

24 L os pecados de algunos hombres se hacen patentes antes que ellos vengan a juicio, mas a otros se les descubren después.

Of some men the sins are manifest beforehand, going before to judgment, and some also they follow after.

25 A simismo se hacen manifiestas las buenas obras; y las que son de otra manera, no pueden permanecer ocultas.

In like manner good works also are manifest beforehand, and those that are otherwise cannot be hid.
