1 T omando Jesús la palabra, les volvió a hablar en parábolas, diciendo:

And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said:

2 E l reino de los cielos es semejante a un rey que preparó un banquete de bodas para su hijo;

“The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son,

3 y envió a sus siervos a llamar a los convidados a las bodas; mas éstos no quisieron venir.

and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come.

4 V olvió a enviar otros siervos, diciendo: Decid a los invitados: Mirad, ya he preparado mi banquete; mis toros y mis animales engordados han sido matados, y todo está a punto; venid a las bodas.

Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.”’

5 M as ellos, sin hacer caso, se fueron, uno a su labranza, otro a sus negocios;

But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business.

6 y otros, echando mano a los siervos, los maltrataron y los mataron.

And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them.

7 A l oírlo el rey, se enojó; y enviando sus ejércitos, destruyó a aquellos homicidas, y quemó su ciudad.

But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

8 D espués dijo a sus siervos: El banquete está a punto; mas los que fueron invitados no eran dignos.

Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.

9 I d, pues, a las encrucijadas de los caminos, y llamad a las bodas a cuantos halléis.

Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’

10 Y saliendo los siervos por los caminos, juntaron a todos los que hallaron, tanto malos como buenos; y el salón de bodas se llenó de convidados.

So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.

11 Y al entrar el rey para ver a los convidados, vio allí a un hombre que no estaba vestido con traje de boda.

“But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment.

12 Y le dijo: Amigo, ¿cómo entraste aquí, sin estar vestido con traje de boda? Mas él enmudeció.

So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless.

13 E ntonces el rey dijo a los sirvientes: Atadle de pies y manos, y echadle a las tinieblas de afuera; allí será el llanto y el rechinar de dientes.

Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

14 P orque muchos son llamados, y pocos escogidos. La cuestión del tributo

“For many are called, but few are chosen.” The Pharisees: Is It Lawful to Pay Taxes to Caesar?

15 E ntonces se fueron los fariseos a deliberar cómo tenderle una trampa y sorprenderle en alguna palabra.

Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk.

16 Y le enviaron los discípulos de ellos con los herodianos, diciendo: Maestro, sabemos que eres veraz, y que enseñas con verdad el camino de Dios, y que no te da cuidado de nadie, porque no miras la apariencia de los hombres.

And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men.

17 D inos, pues, qué te parece: ¿Es lícito dar tributo a César, o no?

Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

18 P ero Jesús, conociendo la malicia de ellos, les dijo: ¿Por qué me tentáis, hipócritas?

But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, you hypocrites?

19 M ostradme la moneda del tributo. Y ellos le presentaron un denario.

Show Me the tax money.” So they brought Him a denarius.

20 E ntonces les dijo: ¿De quién es esta imagen, y la inscripción?

And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?”

21 L e dijeron: De César. Y les dijo: Dad, pues, a César lo que es de César, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.

They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

22 O yendo esto, se quedaron asombrados, y dejándole, se fueron. La pregunta sobre la resurrección

When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left Him and went their way. The Sadducees: What About the Resurrection?

23 A quel día se le acercaron los saduceos, que dicen que no hay resurrección, y le preguntaron,

The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him,

24 d iciendo: Maestro, Moisés dijo: Si alguno muere sin hijos, su hermano se casará con su mujer, y levantará descendencia a su hermano.

saying: “Teacher, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.

25 A hora bien, había entre nosotros siete hermanos; el primero se casó, y murió; y no teniendo descendencia, dejó su mujer a su hermano.

Now there were with us seven brothers. The first died after he had married, and having no offspring, left his wife to his brother.

26 D e la misma manera también el segundo, y el tercero, hasta el séptimo.

Likewise the second also, and the third, even to the seventh.

27 Y después de todos, murió también la mujer.

Last of all the woman died also.

28 E n la resurrección, pues, ¿de cuál de los siete será ella mujer, ya que todos la tuvieron?

Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.”

29 E ntonces, respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Estáis en un error, por no saber las Escrituras ni el poder de Dios.

Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.

30 P orque en la resurrección no se casan ni son dadas en matrimonio, sino que son como los ángeles de Dios en el cielo.

For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven.

31 P ero en cuanto a la resurrección de los muertos, ¿no habéis leído lo que os fue dicho por Dios, cuando dijo:

But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying,

32 Y o soy el Dios de Abraham, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob? Dios no es un Dios de muertos, sino de vivos.

‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”

33 O yendo esto la gente, se admiraba de su doctrina. El principal mandamiento

And when the multitudes heard this, they were astonished at His teaching. The Scribes: Which Is the First Commandment of All?

34 E ntonces los fariseos, oyendo que había hecho callar a los saduceos, se reunieron de común acuerdo.

But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.

35 Y uno de ellos, intérprete de la ley, preguntó por tentarlo, diciendo:

Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying,

36 M aestro, ¿cuál es el gran mandamiento en la ley?

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”

37 J esús le dijo: Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, y con toda tu mente.

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

38 É ste es el primero y gran mandamiento.

This is the first and great commandment.

39 Y el segundo es semejante: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.

And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

40 D e estos dos mandamientos dependen toda la ley y los profetas. ¿De quién es hijo el Cristo?

On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” Jesus: How Can David Call His Descendant Lord?

41 Y estando reunidos los fariseos, les preguntó Jesús,

While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

42 d iciendo: ¿Qué opináis del Cristo? ¿De quién es hijo? Le dijeron: De David.

saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?” They said to Him, “ The Son of David.”

43 É l les dijo: ¿Pues cómo David en el Espíritu le llama Señor, diciendo:

He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying:

44 D ijo el Señor a mi Señor: Siéntate a mi derecha, Hasta que ponga a tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies?

‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool”’?

45 P ues si David le llama Señor, ¿cómo es hijo suyo?

If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his Son?”

46 Y nadie le podía responder palabra; y nadie se atrevió desde aquel día a preguntarle más.

And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare question Him anymore.
