1 Y fue la vida de Sara ciento veintisiete años; tantos fueron los años de la vida de Sara.

Sarah lived one hundred and twenty-seven years; these were the years of the life of Sarah.

2 Y murió Sara en Quiryat-arbá, que es Hebrón, en la tierra de Canaán; y vino Abraham a hacer duelo por Sara, y a llorarla.

So Sarah died in Kirjath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.

3 Y se levantó Abraham de delante de su muerta, y habló a los hijos de Het, diciendo:

Then Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spoke to the sons of Heth, saying,

4 E xtranjero y advenedizo soy entre vosotros; dadme propiedad para sepultura entre vosotros, y sepultaré mi muerta de delante de mí.

“I am a foreigner and a visitor among you. Give me property for a burial place among you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.”

5 Y respondieron los hijos de Het a Abraham, y le dijeron:

And the sons of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,

6 Ó yenos, señor nuestro; eres un príncipe de Dios entre nosotros; en lo mejor de nuestros sepulcros sepulta a tu muerta; ninguno de nosotros te negará su sepulcro, ni te impedirá que entierres tu muerta.

“Hear us, my lord: You are a mighty prince among us; bury your dead in the choicest of our burial places. None of us will withhold from you his burial place, that you may bury your dead.”

7 Y Abraham se levantó, y se inclinó al pueblo de aquella tierra, a los hijos de Het,

Then Abraham stood up and bowed himself to the people of the land, the sons of Heth.

8 y habló con ellos, diciendo: Si tenéis voluntad de que yo sepulte mi muerta de delante de mí, oídme, e interceded por mí con Efrón hijo de Zohar,

And he spoke with them, saying, “If it is your wish that I bury my dead out of my sight, hear me, and meet with Ephron the son of Zohar for me,

9 p ara que me dé la cueva de Macpelá, que tiene al extremo de su heredad; que por su justo precio me la dé, para posesión de sepultura en medio de vosotros.

that he may give me the cave of Machpelah which he has, which is at the end of his field. Let him give it to me at the full price, as property for a burial place among you.”

10 E ste Efrón estaba entre los hijos de Het; y respondió Efrón heteo a Abraham, en presencia de los hijos de Het, de todos los que entraban por la puerta de su ciudad, diciendo:

Now Ephron dwelt among the sons of Heth; and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the presence of the sons of Heth, all who entered at the gate of his city, saying,

11 N o, señor mío, óyeme: te doy la heredad, y te doy también la cueva que está en ella; en presencia de los hijos de mi pueblo te la doy; sepulta tu muerta.

“No, my lord, hear me: I give you the field and the cave that is in it; I give it to you in the presence of the sons of my people. I give it to you. Bury your dead!”

12 E ntonces Abraham se inclinó delante del pueblo de la tierra,

Then Abraham bowed himself down before the people of the land;

13 y respondió a Efrón en presencia del pueblo de la tierra, diciendo: Antes, si te place, te ruego que me oigas. Yo daré el precio de la heredad; tómalo de mí, y sepultaré en ella mi muerta.

and he spoke to Ephron in the hearing of the people of the land, saying, “If you will give it, please hear me. I will give you money for the field; take it from me and I will bury my dead there.”

14 R espondió Efrón a Abraham, diciéndole:

And Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,

15 S eñor mío, escúchame: la tierra vale cuatrocientos siclos de plata; ¿qué es esto para ti y para mí? Entierra, pues, tu muerta.

“My lord, listen to me; the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver. What is that between you and me? So bury your dead.”

16 E ntonces Abraham se convino con Efrón, y pesó Abraham a Efrón el dinero que dijo, en presencia de los hijos de Het, cuatrocientos siclos de plata, de buena ley entre mercaderes.

And Abraham listened to Ephron; and Abraham weighed out the silver for Ephron which he had named in the hearing of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, currency of the merchants.

17 Y quedó la heredad de Efrón que estaba en Macpelá al frente de Mamré, la heredad con la cueva que estaba en ella, y todos los árboles que había en la heredad, y en todos sus contornos,

So the field of Ephron which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field and the cave which was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, which were within all the surrounding borders, were deeded

18 c omo propiedad de Abraham, en presencia de los hijos de Het y de todos los que entraban por la puerta de la ciudad.

to Abraham as a possession in the presence of the sons of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city.

19 D espués de esto sepultó Abraham a Sara su mujer en la cueva de la heredad de Macpelá al frente Mamré, que es Hebrón, en la tierra de Canaán.

And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah, before Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan.

20 Y quedó la heredad y la cueva que en ella había, de Abraham, como una posesión para sepultura, recibida de los hijos de Het.

So the field and the cave that is in it were deeded to Abraham by the sons of Heth as property for a burial place.
