1 V ino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

The word of the Lord came to me again, saying,

2 ¿ Qué queréis decir vosotros, los que usáis este refrán sobre la tierra de Israel, que dice: Los padres comieron las uvas agrias, y los dientes de los hijos tienen la dentera?

“What do you mean when you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying: ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children’s teeth are set on edge’?

3 V ivo yo, dice el Señor Jehová, que nunca más tendréis ocasión de usar este refrán en Israel.

“ As I live,” says the Lord God, “you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel.

4 H e aquí que todas las almas son mías; como el alma del padre, así el alma del hijo es mía; el alma que peque, ésa morirá.

“Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.

5 P ero el hombre que sea justo, y obre según el derecho y la justicia;

But if a man is just And does what is lawful and right;

6 q ue no coma sobre los montes, ni alce sus ojos a los ídolos de la casa de Israel, ni viole la mujer de su prójimo, ni se llegue a una mujer menstruosa,

If he has not eaten on the mountains, Nor lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, Nor defiled his neighbor’s wife, Nor approached a woman during her impurity;

7 n i oprima a nadie; que devuelva al deudor su prenda, que no cometa robo, y que dé de su pan al hambriento y cubra al desnudo con vestido,

If he has not oppressed anyone, But has restored to the debtor his pledge; Has robbed no one by violence, But has given his bread to the hungry And covered the naked with clothing;

8 q ue no preste a interés ni exija con usura; que retraiga su mano de la maldad, y haga justicia verdadera entre hombre y hombre,

If he has not exacted usury Nor taken any increase, But has withdrawn his hand from iniquity And executed true judgment between man and man;

9 q ue camine en mis ordenanzas, y guarde mis decretos para obrar rectamente, éste es justo; de seguro vivirá, dice el Señor Jehová.

If he has walked in My statutes And kept My judgments faithfully— He is just; He shall surely live!” Says the Lord God.

10 M as si engendra un hijo ladrón, derramador de sangre, o que haga alguna cosa de éstas,

“If he begets a son who is a robber Or a shedder of blood, Who does any of these things

11 q ue él mismo no había hecho, un hijo que coma sobre los montes, o viole la mujer de su prójimo,

And does none of those duties, But has eaten on the mountains Or defiled his neighbor’s wife;

12 q ue oprima al pobre y menesteroso, cometa robos, no devuelva la prenda, o alce sus ojos a los ídolos o haga abominación,

If he has oppressed the poor and needy, Robbed by violence, Not restored the pledge, Lifted his eyes to the idols, Or committed abomination;

13 p reste a interés y exija con usura; ¿vivirá éste? No vivirá. Todas estas abominaciones hizo; de cierto morirá, su sangre será sobre él.

If he has exacted usury Or taken increase— Shall he then live? He shall not live! If he has done any of these abominations, He shall surely die; His blood shall be upon him.

14 P ero si éste engendra un hijo, el cual ve todos los pecados que su padre hizo, y, reflexionando, no le imita,

“ If, however, he begets a son Who sees all the sins which his father has done, And considers but does not do likewise;

15 n o come sobre los montes, ni alza sus ojos a los ídolos de la casa de Israel; no viola la mujer de su prójimo,

Who has not eaten on the mountains, Nor lifted his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, Nor defiled his neighbor’s wife;

16 n i oprime a nadie, no retiene la prenda, ni comete robos; da de su pan al hambriento, y cubre con vestido al desnudo;

Has not oppressed anyone, Nor withheld a pledge, Nor robbed by violence, But has given his bread to the hungry And covered the naked with clothing;

17 a parta su mano de oprimir al pobre, no recibe interés ni usura; guarda mis ordenanzas y anda en mis estatutos; éste no morirá por la maldad de su padre; de cierto vivirá.

Who has withdrawn his hand from the poor And not received usury or increase, But has executed My judgments And walked in My statutes— He shall not die for the iniquity of his father; He shall surely live!

18 E n cuanto a su padre, por cuanto hizo agravio, despojó violentamente al hermano, e hizo en medio de su pueblo lo que no es bueno, he aquí que él morirá por su maldad.

“ As for his father, Because he cruelly oppressed, Robbed his brother by violence, And did what is not good among his people, Behold, he shall die for his iniquity. Turn and Live

19 Y vosotros decís: ¿Por qué el hijo no llevará el pecado de su padre? Puesto que el hijo ha obrado según el derecho y la justicia, y ha guardado todos mis estatutos y los ha cumplido, de cierto vivirá.

“Yet you say, ‘Why should the son not bear the guilt of the father?’ Because the son has done what is lawful and right, and has kept all My statutes and observed them, he shall surely live.

20 E l alma que peque, ésa morirá; el hijo no llevará el pecado del padre, ni el padre llevará el pecado del hijo; la justicia del justo será sobre él, y la impiedad del impío será sobre él. El camino de Dios es justo

The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.

21 M as si el impío se aparta de todos sus pecados que hizo, y guarda todos mis estatutos y obra según el derecho y la justicia, de cierto vivirá; no morirá.

“But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die.

22 N inguna de las transgresiones que cometió será recordada contra él; vivirá por la justicia que ha practicado.

None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness which he has done, he shall live.

23 ¿ Acaso me complazco yo en la muerte del impío?, dice el Señor Jehová. ¿No me complazco más bien en que se aparte de sus caminos y viva?

Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?” says the Lord God, “ and not that he should turn from his ways and live?

24 M as si el justo se aparta de su justicia y comete maldad, y hace conforme a todas las abominaciones que hace el impío, ¿vivirá él? Ninguna de las justicias que hizo le serán tenidas en cuenta; por su transgresión con que prevaricó, y por el pecado que cometió, por ello morirá.

“But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? All the righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; because of the unfaithfulness of which he is guilty and the sin which he has committed, because of them he shall die.

25 Y vosotros decís: El camino del Señor no es recto. Oíd ahora, casa de Israel: ¿Es mi camino el que no es recto? ¿No son vuestros caminos los que son torcidos?

“Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not fair.’ Hear now, O house of Israel, is it not My way which is fair, and your ways which are not fair?

26 S i el justo se aparta de su justicia, y comete iniquidad, él morirá por ello; por la iniquidad que hizo, morirá.

When a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, commits iniquity, and dies in it, it is because of the iniquity which he has done that he dies.

27 Y si el malvado se aparta de la maldad que cometió, y obra según el derecho y la justicia, hará vivir su alma.

Again, when a wicked man turns away from the wickedness which he committed, and does what is lawful and right, he preserves himself alive.

28 P orque ha abierto los ojos y se ha apartado de todas las transgresiones que había cometido, de cierto vivirá; no morirá.

Because he considers and turns away from all the transgressions which he committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die.

29 Y , sin embargo, la casa de Israel dice: No es recto el camino del Señor. ¿Que no son rectos mis caminos, casa de Israel? Ciertamente, ¿no son vuestros caminos los que no son rectos?

Yet the house of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is not fair.’ O house of Israel, is it not My ways which are fair, and your ways which are not fair?

30 P or tanto, yo os juzgaré a cada uno según sus caminos, oh casa de Israel, dice el Señor Jehová. Convertíos, y volveos de todas vuestras transgresiones, y no os será la iniquidad causa de ruina.

“Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways,” says the Lord God. “Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin.

31 A rrojad lejos de vosotros todas vuestras transgresiones con que habéis pecado, y haceos un corazón nuevo y un espíritu nuevo. ¿Por qué habéis de querer morir, casa de Israel?

Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel?

32 P ues yo no me complazco en la muerte del que muere, dice Jehová el Señor; convertíos, pues, y vivid.

For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,” says the Lord God. “Therefore turn and live!”
