1 C inco días después, descendió el sumo sacerdote Ananías con algunos de los ancianos y un cierto orador llamado Tértulo, y comparecieron ante el gobernador contra Pablo.

Now after five days Ananias the high priest came down with the elders and a certain orator named Tertullus. These gave evidence to the governor against Paul.

2 Y cuando éste fue llamado, Tértulo comenzó a acusarle, diciendo: Como debido a ti gozamos de gran paz, y muchas reformas son realizadas en beneficio de esta nación por tu prudencia,

And when he was called upon, Tertullus began his accusation, saying: “Seeing that through you we enjoy great peace, and prosperity is being brought to this nation by your foresight,

3 o h excelentísimo Félix, lo reconocemos en todo tiempo y en todo lugar con toda gratitud.

we accept it always and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.

4 P ero por no molestarte más largamente, te ruego que nos oigas brevemente conforme a tu equidad.

Nevertheless, not to be tedious to you any further, I beg you to hear, by your courtesy, a few words from us.

5 P orque hemos hallado que este hombre es una plaga, y promotor de sediciones entre todos los judíos por todo el mundo, y cabecilla de la secta de los nazarenos.

For we have found this man a plague, a creator of dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

6 I ntentó también profanar el templo; y después de prenderle, quisimos juzgarle conforme a nuestra ley.

He even tried to profane the temple, and we seized him, and wanted to judge him according to our law.

7 P ero se presentó el tribuno Lisias, y con gran violencia le quitó de nuestras manos,

But the commander Lysias came by and with great violence took him out of our hands,

8 m andando a sus acusadores que viniesen a ti. Tú mismo, pues, si le interrogas, podrás informarte de todas estas cosas de que le acusamos.

commanding his accusers to come to you. By examining him yourself you may ascertain all these things of which we accuse him.”

9 L os judíos también se unían a la acusación, asegurando que las cosas eran así.

And the Jews also assented, maintaining that these things were so. The Defense Before Felix

10 H abiéndole hecho señal el gobernador a Pablo para que hablase, éste respondió: Porque bien sé que desde hace muchos años eres juez de esta nación, haré mi defensa con buen ánimo.

Then Paul, after the governor had nodded to him to speak, answered: “Inasmuch as I know that you have been for many years a judge of this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself,

11 C omo tú puedes cerciorarte, no hace más de doce días que subí a Jerusalén a adorar;

because you may ascertain that it is no more than twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem to worship.

12 y ni en el templo, ni en las sinagogas, ni en la ciudad me hallaron disputando con ninguno, ni amotinando a la multitud;

And they neither found me in the temple disputing with anyone nor inciting the crowd, either in the synagogues or in the city.

13 n i te pueden probar las cosas de que ahora me acusan.

Nor can they prove the things of which they now accuse me.

14 P ero esto te confieso, que según el Camino que ellos llaman secta, así doy culto al Dios de mis padres creyendo todas las cosas que están escritas en la ley y en los profetas;

But this I confess to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect, so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the Law and in the Prophets.

15 t eniendo esperanza en Dios, la cual ellos mismos también abrigan, de que ha de haber resurrección de los muertos, tanto de justos como de injustos.

I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.

16 Y por esto, yo mismo me ejercito constantemente en conservar una conciencia irreprensible ante Dios y ante los hombres.

This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.

17 P ero pasados algunos años, vine a hacer limosnas a mi nación y a presentar ofrendas.

“Now after many years I came to bring alms and offerings to my nation,

18 E staba haciendo esto, cuando unos judíos de Asia me hallaron purificado en el templo, no con multitud ni con alboroto.

in the midst of which some Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with a mob nor with tumult.

19 E llos deberían comparecer ante ti y acusarme, si tienen algo contra mí.

They ought to have been here before you to object if they had anything against me.

20 O que digan estos mismos si hallaron en mí algún delito, cuando comparecí ante el sanedrín,

Or else let those who are here themselves say if they found any wrongdoing in me while I stood before the council,

21 a no ser este solo grito que lancé estando en medio de ellos: Acerca de la resurrección de los muertos soy juzgado hoy por vosotros.

unless it is for this one statement which I cried out, standing among them, ‘Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being judged by you this day.’” Felix Procrastinates

22 E ntonces Félix, oídas estas cosas, estando mejor informado de este Camino, les dio largas, diciendo: Cuando descienda el tribuno Lisias, decidiré vuestro asunto.

But when Felix heard these things, having more accurate knowledge of the Way, he adjourned the proceedings and said, “When Lysias the commander comes down, I will make a decision on your case.”

23 Y mandó al centurión que se custodiase a Pablo, pero que se le concediese alguna libertad, y que no impidiese a ninguno de los suyos servirle o venir a él.

So he commanded the centurion to keep Paul and to let him have liberty, and told him not to forbid any of his friends to provide for or visit him.

24 A lgunos días después, viniendo Félix con Drusila su mujer, que era judía, llamó a Pablo, y le oyó acerca de la fe en Jesucristo.

And after some days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

25 P ero al disertar Pablo acerca de la justicia, del dominio propio y del juicio venidero, Félix se aterrorizó, y dijo: Vete por ahora; pero cuando tenga oportunidad te llamaré.

Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, “Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you.”

26 E speraba también junto con esto, que Pablo le diera dinero para que le soltase; por lo cual le hacía llamar con frecuencia para conversar con él.

Meanwhile he also hoped that money would be given him by Paul, that he might release him. Therefore he sent for him more often and conversed with him.

27 P ero al cabo de dos años recibió Félix por sucesor a Porcio Festo; y queriendo Félix congraciarse con los judíos, dejó preso a Pablo.

But after two years Porcius Festus succeeded Felix; and Felix, wanting to do the Jews a favor, left Paul bound.
