1 ¿ Quién como el sabio?; ¿y quién como el que sabe interpretar las cosas? La sabiduría del hombre ilumina su rostro, y la tosquedad de su semblante se mudará.

Who is like a wise man? And who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man’s wisdom makes his face shine, And the sternness of his face is changed. Obey Authorities for God’s Sake

2 T e aconsejo que guardes el mandamiento del rey y la palabra del juramento de Dios.

I say, “Keep the king’s commandment for the sake of your oath to God.

3 N o te apresures a irte de su presencia, ni en cosa mala persistas; porque él hará todo lo que le plazca.

Do not be hasty to go from his presence. Do not take your stand for an evil thing, for he does whatever pleases him.”

4 P ues la palabra del rey es soberana, ¿y quién le dirá: Qué haces?

Where the word of a king is, there is power; And who may say to him, “What are you doing?”

5 E l que guarda el mandamiento no sufrirá ningún mal; y el corazón del sabio discierne el cuándo y el cómo.

He who keeps his command will experience nothing harmful; And a wise man’s heart discerns both time and judgment,

6 P orque para todo lo que quisieres hay su momento y su modo; porque el mal del hombre es grande sobre él;

Because for every matter there is a time and judgment, Though the misery of man increases greatly.

7 p ues no sabe lo que ha de suceder; y el cuándo haya de ser, ¿quién se lo enseñará?

For he does not know what will happen; So who can tell him when it will occur?

8 N o hay hombre que tenga potestad sobre su aliento para retener el aliento, ni potestad sobre el día de la muerte; y no valen armas en tal guerra, ni la impiedad librará al que la comete.

No one has power over the spirit to retain the spirit, And no one has power in the day of death. There is no release from that war, And wickedness will not deliver those who are given to it.

9 T odo esto he visto, y me he fijado en todo lo que se hace debajo del sol, en el tiempo en que el hombre se enseñorea del hombre para mal suyo. Desigualdades de la vida

All this I have seen, and applied my heart to every work that is done under the sun: There is a time in which one man rules over another to his own hurt. Death Comes to All

10 A simismo he visto a los inicuos sepultados con honra; mas los que frecuentaban el lugar santo fueron luego puestos en olvido en la ciudad donde habían actuado con rectitud. Esto también es vanidad.

Then I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of holiness, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done. This also is vanity.

11 P or cuanto no se ejecuta luego sentencia contra las malas acciones, el corazón de los hijos de los hombres está en ellos dispuesto para hacer el mal.

Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

12 A unque el pecador haga mal cien veces, y prolongue sus días, con todo yo también sé que les irá bien a los que temen a Dios, los que temen ante su presencia;

Though a sinner does evil a hundred times, and his days are prolonged, yet I surely know that it will be well with those who fear God, who fear before Him.

13 y que no le irá bien al impío, ni le serán prolongados los días como sombra; por cuanto no teme delante de la presencia de Dios.

But it will not be well with the wicked; nor will he prolong his days, which are as a shadow, because he does not fear before God.

14 H ay otra vanidad que se hace sobre la tierra: que hay justos a quienes sucede como si hicieran obras de impíos, y hay impíos a quienes acontece como si hicieran obras de justos. Digo que esto también es vanidad.

There is a vanity which occurs on earth, that there are just men to whom it happens according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happens according to the work of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

15 P or eso, yo alabo la alegría; ya que el hombre no tiene ningún otro bien debajo del sol, sino que coma y beba y se alegre; pues eso le queda de su trabajo en los días de su vida que Dios le concede debajo del sol. El amor

So I commended enjoyment, because a man has nothing better under the sun than to eat, drink, and be merry; for this will remain with him in his labor all the days of his life which God gives him under the sun.

16 Y o, pues, dediqué mi corazón a conocer la sabiduría, y a ver las tareas que se hacen sobre la tierra (porque hay quien ni de noche ni de día ve sueño en sus ojos).

When I applied my heart to know wisdom and to see the business that is done on earth, even though one sees no sleep day or night,

17 O bservé también todas las obras de Dios, ya que el hombre no puede alcanzar la obra que se hace debajo del sol; por mucho que se afane el hombre buscándola, no la hallará; aunque diga el sabio que la conoce, no por eso podrá alcanzarla.

then I saw all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun. For though a man labors to discover it, yet he will not find it; moreover, though a wise man attempts to know it, he will not be able to find it.
