1 D espués de estas cosas había una fiesta de los judíos, y subió Jesús a Jerusalén.

After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

2 Y hay en Jerusalén, cerca de la puerta de las Ovejas, un estanque, llamado en hebreo Betesda, el cual tiene cinco pórticos.

Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.

3 E n éstos yacía una multitud de enfermos, ciegos, cojos y paralíticos, que esperaban el movimiento del agua.

In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water.

4 P orque un ángel descendía de tiempo en tiempo al estanque, y agitaba el agua; y el que primero entraba en el estanque después del movimiento del agua, quedaba sano de cualquier enfermedad que tuviese.

For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.

5 Y había allí un hombre que hacía treinta y ocho años que estaba enfermo.

Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years.

6 C uando Jesús lo vio tendido, y supo que llevaba ya mucho tiempo así, le dijo: ¿Quieres quedar sano?

When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”

7 L e respondió el enfermo: Señor, no tengo quien me meta en el estanque cuando se agita el agua; y entretanto que yo voy, otro desciende antes que yo.

The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

8 J esús le dijo: Levántate, toma tu camilla, y anda.

Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.”

9 Y al instante aquel hombre quedó sano, y tomó su camilla, y echó a andar. Y era sábado aquel día.

And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath.

10 D ecían, pues, los judíos a aquel que había sido sanado: Es sábado; no te es lícito llevar la camilla.

The Jews therefore said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed.”

11 É l les respondió: El que me sanó, él mismo me dijo: Toma tu camilla y anda.

He answered them, “He who made me well said to me, ‘Take up your bed and walk.’ ”

12 E ntonces le preguntaron: ¿Quién es el que te dijo: Toma tu camilla y anda?

Then they asked him, “Who is the Man who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’ ?”

13 Y el que había sido sanado no sabía quién era, porque Jesús se había apartado de la gente que estaba en aquel lugar.

But the one who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a multitude being in that place.

14 D espués le halló Jesús en el templo, y le dijo: Mira, ya estás sano; no peques más, para que no te suceda alguna cosa peor.

Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.”

15 E l hombre se fue, y les contó a los judíos que era Jesús el que le había sanado.

The man departed and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well. Honor the Father and the Son

16 Y por esto, los judíos perseguían a Jesús, y procuraban matarle, porque hacía estas cosas en sábado.

For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath.

17 Y Jesús les respondió: Hasta ahora mi Padre trabaja, y yo también trabajo.

But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”

18 P or esto, pues, procuraban más aún los judíos matarle, porque no sólo quebrantaba el sábado, sino que también decía que Dios era su propio Padre, haciéndose igual a Dios. La autoridad del Hijo

Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.

19 R espondió entonces Jesús, y les dijo: De cierto, de cierto os digo: No puede el Hijo hacer nada por su cuenta, sino lo que ve hacer al Padre; porque todo lo que él hace, también lo hace igualmente el Hijo.

Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.

20 P orque el Padre ama al Hijo, y le muestra todo lo que él hace; y le mostrará mayores obras que éstas para que vosotros os admiréis.

For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.

21 P orque como el Padre levanta a los muertos, y les da vida, así también el Hijo da vida a los que quiere.

For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.

22 P ues ni aun el Padre juzga a nadie, sino que ha dado todo juicio al Hijo,

For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,

23 p ara que todos honren al Hijo como honran al Padre. El que no honra al Hijo, no honra al Padre que le envió.

that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. Life and Judgment Are Through the Son

24 D e cierto, de cierto os digo: El que oye mi palabra, y cree al que me envió, tiene vida eterna; y no vendrá a condenación, sino que ha pasado de la muerte a la vida.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

25 D e cierto, de cierto os digo: Llega la hora, y ahora es, cuando los muertos oirán la voz del Hijo de Dios; y los que la oigan vivirán.

Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.

26 P orque como el Padre tiene vida en sí mismo, así también le ha dado al Hijo el tener vida en sí mismo;

For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself,

27 y también le dio autoridad de ejecutar juicio, por cuanto es el Hijo del Hombre.

and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.

28 N o os asombréis de esto; porque va a llegar la hora en que todos los que están en los sepulcros oirán su voz;

Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice

29 y los que hicieron lo bueno, saldrán a resurrección de vida; mas los que hicieron lo malo, a resurrección de condenación. Testigos de Cristo

and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

30 N o puedo yo hacer nada por mí mismo; según oigo, así juzgo; y mi juicio es justo, porque no busco mi voluntad, sino la voluntad del que me envió, la del Padre.

I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me. The Fourfold Witness

31 S i yo doy testimonio acerca de mí mismo, mi testimonio no es verdadero.

“If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true.

32 O tro es el que da testimonio acerca de mí, y sé que el testimonio que da de mí es verdadero.

There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true.

33 V osotros enviasteis mensajeros a Juan, y él dio testimonio de la verdad.

You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.

34 P ero yo no recibo testimonio de parte de hombre alguno; mas digo esto para que vosotros seáis salvos.

Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved.

35 É l era una lámpara que ardía y alumbraba; y vosotros quisisteis regocijaros por un tiempo en su luz.

He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.

36 M as yo tengo mayor testimonio que el de Juan; porque las obras que el Padre me dio para que las llevase a cabo, las mismas obras que yo hago, dan testimonio de mí, de que el Padre me ha enviado.

But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.

37 T ambién el Padre que me envió ha dado testimonio de mí. Nunca habéis oído su voz, ni habéis visto su aspecto,

And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.

38 n i tenéis su palabra morando en vosotros; porque a quien él envió, vosotros no creéis.

But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe.

39 E scudriñad las Escrituras, porque a vosotros os parece que en ellas tenéis la vida eterna; y ellas son las que dan testimonio de mí;

You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.

40 y no queréis venir a mí para que tengáis vida.

But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

41 G loria de los hombres no recibo.

“I do not receive honor from men.

42 P ero yo os conozco, que no tenéis amor de Dios en vosotros mismos.

But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you.

43 Y o he venido en nombre de mi Padre, y no me recibís; si otro viene en su propio nombre, a ése recibiréis.

I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive.

44 ¿ Cómo podéis vosotros creer, pues recibís gloria los unos de los otros, y no buscáis la gloria que viene del Dios único?

How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God?

45 N o penséis que yo voy a acusaros ante el Padre; hay quien os acusa, Moisés, en quien tenéis puesta vuestra esperanza.

Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust.

46 P orque si creyeseis a Moisés, me creeríais a mí, porque de mí escribió él.

For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.

47 P ero si no creéis a sus escritos, ¿cómo creeréis a mis palabras?

But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”
