1 O n one of the days while He was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders confronted Him,

¶ Y aconteció un día, que enseñando él al pueblo en el Templo, y anunciando el Evangelio, llegaron los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los escribas, con los ancianos;

2 a nd they spoke, saying to Him, “Tell us by what authority You are doing these things, or who is the one who gave You this authority?”

y le hablaron, diciendo: Dinos: ¿Con qué potestad haces estas cosas? ¿O quién es el que te ha dado esta potestad?

3 J esus answered and said to them, “I will also ask you a question, and you tell Me:

Respondiendo entonces Jesús, les dijo: Os preguntaré yo también una palabra; respondedme:

4 W as the baptism of John from heaven or from men?”

El bautismo de Juan, ¿era del cielo, o de los hombres?

5 T hey reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say, ‘Why did you not believe him?’

Mas ellos pensaban dentro de sí, diciendo: Si dijéremos, del cielo, dirá: ¿Por qué, pues, no le creisteis?

6 B ut if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us to death, for they are convinced that John was a prophet.”

Y si dijéremos, de los hombres, todo el pueblo nos apedreará; porque están ciertos que Juan era profeta.

7 S o they answered that they did not know where it came from.

Y respondieron que no sabían de dónde.

8 A nd Jesus said to them, “Nor will I tell you by what authority I do these things.” Parable of the Vine-growers

Entonces Jesús les dijo: Ni yo os digo con qué potestad hago estas cosas.

9 A nd He began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard and rented it out to vine-growers, and went on a journey for a long time.

¶ Y comenzó a decir al pueblo esta parábola: Un hombre plantó una viña, y la arrendó a labradores, y se ausentó por mucho tiempo.

10 A t the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine-growers, so that they would give him some of the produce of the vineyard; but the vine-growers beat him and sent him away empty-handed.

Y al tiempo, envió un siervo a los labradores, para que le dieran del fruto de la viña; mas los labradores le hirieron, y enviaron vacío.

11 A nd he proceeded to send another slave; and they beat him also and treated him shamefully and sent him away empty-handed.

Y volvió a enviar otro siervo; mas ellos a éste también, herido y afrentado, le enviaron vacío.

12 A nd he proceeded to send a third; and this one also they wounded and cast out.

Y volvió a enviar al tercero; mas ellos también a éste echaron herido.

13 T he owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.’

Entonces el señor de la viña dijo: ¿Qué haré? Enviaré mi hijo amado; quizás cuando a éste vieren, tendrán respeto.

14 B ut when the vine-growers saw him, they reasoned with one another, saying, ‘This is the heir; let us kill him so that the inheritance will be ours.’

Mas los labradores, viéndole, pensaron entre sí, diciendo: Este es el heredero; venid, matémosle para que la heredad sea nuestra.

15 S o they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What, then, will the owner of the vineyard do to them?

Y le echaron fuera de la viña, y le mataron. ¿Qué pues, les hará el señor de la viña?

16 H e will come and destroy these vine-growers and will give the vineyard to others.” When they heard it, they said, “ May it never be!”

Vendrá, y destruirá a estos labradores, y dará su viña a otros. Cuando ellos oyeron esto, dijeron: ¡Que no sea así!

17 B ut Jesus looked at them and said, “What then is this that is written: ‘ The stone which the builders rejected, This became the chief corner stone ’?

Pero él mirándolos, dice: ¿Qué pues es lo que está escrito: La piedra que condenaron los edificadores, ésta fue por cabeza de esquina?

18 E veryone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust.” Tribute to Caesar

Cualquiera que cayere sobre aquella piedra, será quebrantado; mas sobre el que la piedra cayere, le desmenuzará.

19 T he scribes and the chief priests tried to lay hands on Him that very hour, and they feared the people; for they understood that He spoke this parable against them.

Y procuraban los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los escribas echarle mano en aquella hora, porque entendieron que contra ellos había dicho esta parábola; mas temieron al pueblo.

20 S o they watched Him, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, in order that they might catch Him in some statement, so that they could deliver Him to the rule and the authority of the governor.

¶ Y acechándole enviaron espías que simularan ser justos, para sorprenderle en palabras, para que le entregaran al principado y a la potestad del gobernador.

21 T hey questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, we know that You speak and teach correctly, and You are not partial to any, but teach the way of God in truth.

Los cuales le preguntaron, diciendo: Maestro, sabemos que dices y enseñas bien, y que no tienes respeto a persona; antes enseñas el camino de Dios con verdad.

22 I s it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

¿Nos es lícito dar tributo a César, o no?

23 B ut He detected their trickery and said to them,

Mas él, entendiendo la astucia de ellos, les dijo: ¿Por qué me tentáis?

24 “ Show Me a denarius. Whose likeness and inscription does it have?” They said, “Caesar’s.”

Mostradme un denario. ¿De quién tiene la imagen y la inscripción? Y respondiendo dijeron: De César.

25 A nd He said to them, “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

Entonces les dijo: Pues dad a César lo que es de César; y lo que es de Dios, a Dios.

26 A nd they were unable to catch Him in a saying in the presence of the people; and being amazed at His answer, they became silent. Is There a Resurrection?

Y no pudieron reprender sus palabras delante del pueblo; antes maravillados de su respuesta, callaron.

27 N ow there came to Him some of the Sadducees (who say that there is no resurrection),

¶ Y llegaron unos de los saduceos, los cuales niegan haber resurrección, le preguntaron,

28 a nd they questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies, having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should marry the wife and raise up children to his brother.

diciendo: Maestro, Moisés nos escribió: Si el hermano de alguno muriere teniendo mujer, y muriere sin hijos, que su hermano tome la mujer, y levante simiente a su hermano.

29 N ow there were seven brothers; and the first took a wife and died childless;

Fueron, pues, siete hermanos; y el primero tomó mujer, y murió sin hijos.

30 a nd the second

Y la tomó el segundo, el cual también murió sin hijos.

31 a nd the third married her; and in the same way all seven died, leaving no children.

Y la tomó el tercero; asimismo también todos siete, y no dejaron simiente, y murieron.

32 F inally the woman died also.

Y a la postre de todos murió también la mujer.

33 I n the resurrection therefore, which one’s wife will she be? For all seven had married her.”

En la resurrección, pues, ¿mujer de cuál de ellos será? Porque los siete la tuvieron por mujer.

34 J esus said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage,

Entonces respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Los hijos de este siglo se casan, y son dados en casamiento;

35 b ut those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage;

mas los que son tenidos por dignos de aquel siglo y de la resurrección de los muertos, ni se casan, ni son dados en casamiento;

36 f or they cannot even die anymore, because they are like angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

porque no pueden ya más morir; porque son iguales a los ángeles; y son hijos de Dios, cuando son hijos de la resurrección.

37 B ut that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the burning bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

Y que los muertos hayan de resucitar, aun Moisés lo enseñó junto a la zarza, cuando llama al Señor, Dios de Abraham, y Dios de Isaac, y Dios de Jacob.

38 N ow He is not the God of the dead but of the living; for all live to Him.”

Porque Dios no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos, porque todos viven para él.

39 S ome of the scribes answered and said, “Teacher, You have spoken well.”

¶ Y respondiéndole unos de los escribas, dijeron: Maestro, bien has dicho.

40 F or they did not have courage to question Him any longer about anything.

Y no osaron más preguntarle algo.

41 T hen He said to them, “How is it that they say the Christ is David’s son?

Y él les dijo: ¿Cómo dicen que el Cristo es hijo de David?

42 F or David himself says in the book of Psalms, ‘ The Lord said to my Lord, “ Sit at My right hand,

Y el mismo David dice en el libro de los Salmos: Dijo el Señor a mi Señor: Siéntate a mi diestra,

43 U ntil I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”’

entre tanto que pongo tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies.

44 T herefore David calls Him ‘Lord,’ and how is He his son?”

Así que David le llama Señor; ¿cómo pues es su hijo?

45 A nd while all the people were listening, He said to the disciples,

Y oyéndole todo el pueblo, dijo a sus discípulos:

46 “ Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love respectful greetings in the market places, and chief seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets,

Guardaos de los escribas, que quieren andar con ropas largas, y aman las salutaciones en las plazas, y las primeras sillas en las sinagogas, y los primeros asientos en las cenas;

47 w ho devour widows’ houses, and for appearance’s sake offer long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”

que devoran las casas de las viudas, poniendo por pretexto la larga oración; éstos recibirán mayor condenación.
