1 T hus says the Lord, “Go and buy a potter’s earthenware jar, and take some of the elders of the people and some of the senior priests.

Así dijo el SEÑOR: Ve, y compra una vasija de barro del alfarero, y lleva contigo alguno de los ancianos del pueblo, y de los ancianos de los sacerdotes;

2 T hen go out to the valley of Ben-hinnom, which is by the entrance of the potsherd gate, and proclaim there the words that I tell you,

y saldrás al valle de Ben-Hinom, que está a la entrada de la puerta oriental, y publicarás allí las palabras que yo te hablaré.

3 a nd say, ‘Hear the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, “Behold I am about to bring a calamity upon this place, at which the ears of everyone that hears of it will tingle.

Dirás pues: Oíd palabra del SEÑOR, oh reyes de Judá, y moradores de Jerusalén. Así dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: He aquí que yo traigo mal sobre este lugar, tal que quien lo oyere, le retiñan los oídos.

4 B ecause they have forsaken Me and have made this an alien place and have burned sacrifices in it to other gods, that neither they nor their forefathers nor the kings of Judah had ever known, and because they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent

Porque me dejaron, y enajenaron este lugar, y ofrecieron en él perfumes a dioses ajenos, los cuales no habían ellos conocido, ni sus padres, ni los reyes de Judá; y llenaron este lugar de sangre de inocentes;

5 a nd have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, a thing which I never commanded or spoke of, nor did it ever enter My mind;

y edificaron lugares altos a Baal, para quemar con fuego a sus hijos en holocaustos al mismo Baal; cosa que no les mandé, ni hablé, ni me vino al pensamiento.

6 t herefore, behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when this place will no longer be called Topheth or the valley of Ben-hinnom, but rather the valley of Slaughter.

Por tanto, he aquí vienen días, dijo el SEÑOR, que este lugar no se llamará más Tofet, ni Valle de Ben-Hinom, sino Valle de la Matanza.

7 I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place, and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies and by the hand of those who seek their life; and I will give over their carcasses as food for the birds of the sky and the beasts of the earth.

Y desvaneceré el consejo de Judá y de Jerusalén en este lugar; y les haré que caigan a espada delante de sus enemigos, y en las manos de los que buscan sus almas; y daré sus cuerpos para comida de las aves del cielo y de las bestias de la tierra;

8 I will also make this city a desolation and an object of hissing; everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss because of all its disasters.

y pondré a esta ciudad por espanto y silbo; todo aquel que pasare por ella se maravillará, y silbará sobre todas sus plagas.

9 I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they will eat one another’s flesh in the siege and in the distress with which their enemies and those who seek their life will distress them.”’

Y les haré comer la carne de sus hijos y la carne de sus hijas; y cada uno comerá la carne de su amigo, en el cerco y en el apuro con que los estrecharán sus enemigos y los que buscan sus almas.

10 “ Then you are to break the jar in the sight of the men who accompany you

Y quebrarás la vasija ante los ojos de los varones que van contigo,

11 a nd say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Just so will I break this people and this city, even as one breaks a potter’s vessel, which cannot again be repaired; and they will bury in Topheth because there is no other place for burial.

y les dirás: Así dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos: Así quebraré a este pueblo y a esta ciudad, como quien quiebra un vaso de barro, que no se puede más restaurar; y en Tofet se enterrarán, porque no habrá otro lugar para enterrar.

12 T his is how I will treat this place and its inhabitants,” declares the Lord, “so as to make this city like Topheth.

Así haré a este lugar, dice el SEÑOR, y a sus moradores, poniendo esta ciudad como Tofet.

13 T he houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah will be defiled like the place Topheth, because of all the houses on whose rooftops they burned sacrifices to all the heavenly host and poured out drink offerings to other gods.”’”

Y las casas de Jerusalén, y las casas de los reyes de Judá, serán como el lugar de Tofet, inmundas, por todas las casas sobre cuyos tejados ofrecieron perfumes a todo el ejército del cielo, y vertieron libaciones a dioses ajenos.

14 T hen Jeremiah came from Topheth, where the Lord had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the Lord’s house and said to all the people:

Y volvió Jeremías de Tofet, adonde le envió el SEÑOR a profetizar, y se paró en el atrio de la Casa del SEÑOR, y dijo a todo el pueblo.

15 “ Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, ‘Behold, I am about to bring on this city and all its towns the entire calamity that I have declared against it, because they have stiffened their necks so as not to heed My words.’”

Así dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: He aquí yo traigo sobre esta ciudad y sobre todas sus villas todo el mal que hablé contra ella; porque han endurecido su cerviz, para no oír mis palabras.
