1 N ow in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth.
¶ Y aconteció en aquellos días que salió edicto de parte de Augusto César, que toda la tierra fuera empadronada.
2 T his was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria.
Este empadronamiento primero fue hecho siendo Cirenio gobernador de Siria.
3 A nd everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city.
E iban todos para ser empadronados, cada uno a su ciudad.
4 J oseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,
Y subió José de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, a Judea, a la ciudad de David, que se llama Belén, por cuanto era de la casa y familia de David;
5 i n order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child.
Para ser empadronado con María su mujer, desposada con él, la cual estaba encinta.
6 W hile they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth.
Y aconteció que estando ellos allí, se cumplieron los días de su alumbramiento.
7 A nd she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Y dio a luz a su hijo primogénito, y le envolvió en pañales, y le acostó en un pesebre, porque no había lugar para ellos en el mesón.
8 I n the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night.
¶ Y había pastores en la misma tierra, que velaban y guardaban las vigilias de la noche sobre su rebaño.
9 A nd an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.
Y he aquí el ángel del Señor vino sobre ellos, y la claridad de Dios los cercó de resplandor; y tuvieron gran temor.
10 B ut the angel said to them, “ Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;
Mas el ángel les dijo: No temáis; porque he aquí os doy evangelio de gran gozo, que será a todo el pueblo;
11 f or today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
que os es nacido hoy Salvador, que es Cristo, el Señor, en la ciudad de David.
12 T his will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Y esto os será por señal: hallaréis al niño envuelto en pañales, acostado en un pesebre.
13 A nd suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
Y repentinamente hubo con el ángel una multitud de los ejércitos celestiales, que alababan a Dios, y decían:
14 “ Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”
Gloria en las alturas a Dios, Y en la tierra paz, y en el hombre buena voluntad.
15 W hen the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.”
Y aconteció que cuando los ángeles se fueron de ellos al cielo, los pastores dijeron los unos a los otros: Pasemos pues hasta Belén, y veamos esto que ha acontecido, y el Señor nos ha mostrado.
16 S o they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.
Y vinieron aprisa, y hallaron a María, y a José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre.
17 W hen they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.
Y viéndolo, hicieron notorio lo que les había sido dicho del niño.
18 A nd all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds.
Y todos los que oyeron, se maravillaron de lo que los pastores les decían.
19 B ut Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.
Mas María guardaba todas estas cosas, meditándolas en su corazón.
20 T he shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them. Jesus Presented at the Temple
Y se volvieron los pastores glorificando y alabando a Dios de todas las cosas que habían oído y visto, como les había sido dicho.
21 A nd when eight days had passed, before His circumcision, His name was then called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.
¶ Y pasados los ocho días para circuncidar al niño, llamaron su nombre JESÚS; el cual le fue puesto por el ángel antes que él fuera concebido en el vientre.
22 A nd when the days for their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord
Y cuando se cumplieron los días de su purificación, conforme a la ley de Moisés, le trajeron a Jerusalén para presentarle al Señor,
23 ( as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “ Every firstborn male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord ”),
(Como está escrito en la ley del Señor: Todo varón que abriere la matriz, será santo al Señor),
24 a nd to offer a sacrifice according to what was said in the Law of the Lord, “ A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”
y para dar la ofrenda, conforme a lo que está dicho en la ley del Señor: un par de tórtolas, o dos palominos.
25 A nd there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
¶ Y he aquí, había un hombre en Jerusalén, llamado Simeón, y este hombre, justo y pío, esperaba la consolación de Israel; y el Espíritu Santo era sobre él.
26 A nd it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
Y había recibido respuesta del Espíritu Santo, que no vería la muerte antes que viera al Cristo del Señor.
27 A nd he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to carry out for Him the custom of the Law,
Y vino por el Espíritu al templo. Y cuando sus padres trajeron al niño Jesús al Templo, para hacer por él conforme a la costumbre de la ley.
28 t hen he took Him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,
Entonces él le tomó en sus brazos, y bendijo a Dios, y dijo:
29 “ Now Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace, According to Your word;
Ahora despides, Señor, a tu siervo, Conforme a tu palabra, en paz;
30 F or my eyes have seen Your salvation,
porque han visto mis ojos tu Salud,
31 W hich You have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
la cual has aparejado en presencia de todos los pueblos;
32 A Light of revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.”
lumbre para ser revelada a los gentiles, y la gloria de tu pueblo Israel.
33 A nd His father and mother were amazed at the things which were being said about Him.
Y José y su madre estaban maravillados de las cosas que se decían de él.
34 A nd Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign to be opposed—
Y los bendijo Simeón, y dijo a su madre María: He aquí, éste es puesto para caída y para levantamiento de muchos en Israel; y para señal a la que será contradicho;
35 a nd a sword will pierce even your own soul—to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”
(y una espada traspasará tu misma alma), para que sean manifestados los pensamientos de muchos corazones.
36 A nd there was a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years and had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage,
Estaba también allí Ana, profetisa, hija de Fanuel, de la tribu de Aser; la cual había venido en grande edad, y había vivido con su marido siete años desde su virginidad;
37 a nd then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers.
y era viuda hacía ochenta y cuatro años, que no se apartaba del Templo, sirviendo de noche y de día con ayunos y oraciones.
38 A t that very moment she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. Return to Nazareth
Y ésta, sobreviniendo en la misma hora, juntamente confesaba al Señor, y hablaba de él a todos los que esperaban la redención en Jerusalén.
39 W hen they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city of Nazareth.
Y cuando cumplieron todas las cosas según la ley del Señor, se volvieron a Galilea, a su ciudad de Nazaret.
40 T he Child continued to grow and become strong, increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him. Visit to Jerusalem
Y el niño crecía, y era confortado del Espíritu, y se llenaba de sabiduría; y la gracia de Dios era sobre él.
41 N ow His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover.
¶ E iban sus padres todos los años a Jerusalén en la fiesta de la Pascua.
42 A nd when He became twelve, they went up there according to the custom of the Feast;
Y cuando fue de doce años, subieron ellos a Jerusalén conforme a la costumbre de la Fiesta.
43 a nd as they were returning, after spending the full number of days, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. But His parents were unaware of it,
Y acabados los días, volviendo ellos, se quedó el niño Jesús en Jerusalén, sin saberlo José y su madre.
44 b ut supposed Him to be in the caravan, and went a day’s journey; and they began looking for Him among their relatives and acquaintances.
Y pensando que estaba en la compañía, anduvieron camino de un día; y le buscaban entre los parientes y entre los conocidos;
45 W hen they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem looking for Him.
mas como no le hallaron, volvieron a Jerusalén buscándole.
46 T hen, after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.
Y aconteció, que después de tres días le hallaron en el Templo, sentado en medio de los doctores, oyéndoles y preguntándoles.
47 A nd all who heard Him were amazed at His understanding and His answers.
Y todos los que le oían, estaban fuera de sí de su entendimiento y de sus respuestas.
48 W hen they saw Him, they were astonished; and His mother said to Him, “ Son, why have You treated us this way? Behold, Your father and I have been anxiously looking for You.”
Y cuando le vieron, se sorprendieron; y le dijo su madre: Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho así? He aquí, tu padre y yo te hemos buscado con dolor.
49 A nd He said to them, “Why is it that you were looking for Me? Did you not know that I had to be in My Father’s house ?”
Entonces él les dice: ¿Qué hay? ¿Por qué me buscabais? ¿No sabíais que en los negocios que son de mi Padre me conviene estar?
50 B ut they did not understand the statement which He had made to them.
Mas ellos no entendieron la palabra que les habló.
51 A nd He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to them; and His mother treasured all these things in her heart.
Y descendió con ellos, y vino a Nazaret, y estaba sujeto a ellos. Y su madre guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón.
52 A nd Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría, y en edad, y en gracia para con Dios y los hombres.
