1 A haz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; and he did not do right in the sight of the Lord as David his father had done.

De veinte años era Acaz cuando comenzó a reinar, y dieciséis años reinó en Jerusalén; mas no hizo lo recto ante los ojos del SEÑOR, como David su padre.

2 B ut he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel; he also made molten images for the Baals.

Antes anduvo en los caminos de los reyes de Israel, y además hizo imágenes de fundición a los Baales.

3 M oreover, he burned incense in the valley of Ben-hinnom and burned his sons in fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord had driven out before the sons of Israel.

Quemó también incienso en el valle de los hijos de Hinom, y quemó a sus hijos en el fuego, conforme a las abominaciones de los gentiles que el SEÑOR había echado delante de los hijos de Israel.

4 H e sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills and under every green tree. Judah Is Invaded

Asimismo sacrificó y quemó incienso en los lugares altos, y en los collados, y debajo de todo árbol espeso.

5 W herefore, the Lord his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Aram; and they defeated him and carried away from him a great number of captives and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who inflicted him with heavy casualties.

Por lo cual el SEÑOR su Dios lo entregó en manos del rey de los sirios, los cuales le derrotaron, y cogieron de él una gran presa, que llevaron a Damasco. Fue también entregado en manos del rey de Israel, el cual le hirió con gran mortandad.

6 F or Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah 120, 000 in one day, all valiant men, because they had forsaken the Lord God of their fathers.

Porque Peca, hijo de Remalías mató en Judá en un día ciento veinte mil, todos hombres valientes; por cuanto habían dejado al SEÑOR Dios de sus padres.

7 A nd Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king’s son and Azrikam the ruler of the house and Elkanah the second to the king.

Asimismo Zicri, hombre poderoso de Efraín, mató a Maasías hijo del rey, y a Azricam su mayordomo, y a Elcana, segundo después del rey.

8 T he sons of Israel carried away captive of their brethren 200, 000 women, sons and daughters; and they took also a great deal of spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria.

¶ Tomaron también cautivos los hijos de Israel de sus hermanos doscientos mil, mujeres, hijos e hijas, a más de haber saqueado de ellos un gran despojo, el cual trajeron a Samaria.

9 B ut a prophet of the Lord was there, whose name was Oded; and he went out to meet the army which came to Samaria and said to them, “Behold, because the Lord, the God of your fathers, was angry with Judah, He has delivered them into your hand, and you have slain them in a rage which has even reached heaven.

Había entonces allí un profeta del SEÑOR, que se llamaba Obed, el cual salió delante del ejército cuando entraba en Samaria, y les dijo: He aquí el SEÑOR Dios de vuestros padres, por el enojo contra Judá, los ha entregado en vuestras manos; y vosotros los habéis matado con ira. Hasta el cielo ha llegado esto.

10 N ow you are proposing to subjugate for yourselves the people of Judah and Jerusalem for male and female slaves. Surely, do you not have transgressions of your own against the Lord your God?

Y ahora habéis determinado sujetar a vosotros los hijos de Judá y de Jerusalén por siervos y siervas; mas ¿no sois vosotros culpables contra el SEÑOR vuestro Dios?

11 N ow therefore, listen to me and return the captives whom you captured from your brothers, for the burning anger of the Lord is against you.”

Oídme, pues, ahora, y volved a enviar los cautivos que habéis tomado de vuestros hermanos; porque la ira del furor del SEÑOR está contra vosotros.

12 T hen some of the heads of the sons of Ephraim—Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai—arose against those who were coming from the battle,

Entonces se levantaron algunos varones de los principales de los hijos de Efraín, Azarías hijo de Johanán, Berequías hijo de Mesilemot, Ezequías hijo de Salum, y Amasa hijo de Hadlai, contra los que venían de la guerra.

13 a nd said to them, “You must not bring the captives in here, for you are proposing to bring upon us guilt against the Lord adding to our sins and our guilt; for our guilt is great so that His burning anger is against Israel.”

Y les dijeron: No traigáis acá los cautivos; porque el pecado contra el SEÑOR será sobre nosotros. Vosotros tratáis de añadir sobre nuestros pecados y sobre nuestras culpas, siendo muy grande nuestra culpa, y la ira del furor sobre Israel.

14 S o the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the officers and all the assembly.

Entonces el ejército dejó los cautivos y la presa delante de los príncipes y de toda la multitud.

15 T hen the men who were designated by name arose, took the captives, and they clothed all their naked ones from the spoil; and they gave them clothes and sandals, fed them and gave them drink, anointed them with oil, led all their feeble ones on donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brothers; then they returned to Samaria. Compromise with Assyria

Y se levantaron los varones nombrados, y tomaron los cautivos, y vistieron del despojo a los que de ellos estaban desnudos; los vistieron y los calzaron, y les dieron de comer y de beber, y los ungieron, y condujeron en asnos a todos los flacos, y los llevaron hasta Jericó, la ciudad de las palmas, cerca de sus hermanos; y ellos volvieron a Samaria.

16 A t that time King Ahaz sent to the kings of Assyria for help.

¶ En aquel tiempo envió a pedir el rey Acaz a los reyes de Asiria que le ayudaran.

17 F or again the Edomites had come and attacked Judah and carried away captives.

Porque a más de esto, los idumeos habían venido y herido a los de Judá, y habían llevado cautivos.

18 T he Philistines also had invaded the cities of the lowland and of the Negev of Judah, and had taken Beth-shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, and Soco with its villages, Timnah with its villages, and Gimzo with its villages, and they settled there.

Asimismo los filisteos se habían derramado por las ciudades de la llanura, y al mediodía de Judá, y habían tomado a Bet-semes, a Ajalón, Gederot, y Soco con sus aldeas, Timna también con sus aldeas, y Gimzo con sus aldeas; y habitaban en ellas.

19 F or the Lord humbled Judah because of Ahaz king of Israel, for he had brought about a lack of restraint in Judah and was very unfaithful to the Lord.

Porque el SEÑOR había humillado a Judá por causa de Acaz rey de Israel; por cuanto él había desnudado a Judá, y se había rebelado gravemente contra el SEÑOR.

20 S o Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came against him and afflicted him instead of strengthening him.

Y vino contra él Tilgat-pileser, rey de los asirios; pues lo redujo a estrechez, y no lo fortificó.

21 A lthough Ahaz took a portion out of the house of the Lord and out of the palace of the king and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria, it did not help him.

Aunque despojó Acaz la Casa del SEÑOR, y la casa real, y las de los príncipes, para dar al rey de los asirios, con todo eso él no le ayudó.

22 N ow in the time of his distress this same King Ahaz became yet more unfaithful to the Lord.

Además el rey Acaz en el tiempo que aquel le apuraba, añadió prevaricación contra el SEÑOR;

23 F or he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus which had defeated him, and said, “ Because the gods of the kings of Aram helped them, I will sacrifice to them that they may help me.” But they became the downfall of him and all Israel.

porque sacrificó a los dioses de Damasco que le habían herido, y dijo: Pues que los dioses de los reyes de Siria les ayudan, yo también sacrificaré a ellos para que me ayuden; habiendo sido éstos su ruina, y la de todo Israel.

24 M oreover, when Ahaz gathered together the utensils of the house of God, he cut the utensils of the house of God in pieces; and he closed the doors of the house of the Lord and made altars for himself in every corner of Jerusalem.

A más de eso recogió Acaz los vasos de la Casa de Dios, y los quebró, y cerró las puertas de la Casa del SEÑOR, y se hizo altares en Jerusalén en todos los rincones.

25 I n every city of Judah he made high places to burn incense to other gods, and provoked the Lord, the God of his fathers, to anger.

Hizo también lugares altos en todas las ciudades de Judá, para quemar incienso a los dioses ajenos, provocando a ira al SEÑOR Dios de sus padres.

26 N ow the rest of his acts and all his ways, from first to last, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.

Los demás hechos, y todos sus caminos, primeros y postreros, he aquí ello está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.

27 S o Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, in Jerusalem, for they did not bring him into the tombs of the kings of Israel; and Hezekiah his son reigned in his place.

Y durmió Acaz con sus padres, y lo sepultaron en la ciudad de Jerusalén; mas no le metieron en los sepulcros de los reyes de Israel; y reinó en su lugar Ezequías su hijo.
