1 T he word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord after Nebuzaradan captain of the bodyguard had released him from Ramah, when he had taken him bound in chains among all the exiles of Jerusalem and Judah who were being exiled to Babylon.

Palabra que vino a Jeremías del SEÑOR, después que Nabuzaradán capitán de la guardia le envió desde Ramá, cuando le tomó estando atado con esposas entre toda la transmigración de Jerusalén y de Judá que iban cautivos a Babilonia.

2 N ow the captain of the bodyguard had taken Jeremiah and said to him, “The Lord your God promised this calamity against this place;

Tomó, pues, el capitán de la guardia a Jeremías, y le dijo: El SEÑOR tu Dios habló este mal contra este lugar;

3 a nd the Lord has brought it on and done just as He promised. Because you people sinned against the Lord and did not listen to His voice, therefore this thing has happened to you.

y lo trajo e hizo el SEÑOR según que había dicho: porque pecasteis contra el SEÑOR, y no oísteis su voz, por tanto os ha venido esto.

4 B ut now, behold, I am freeing you today from the chains which are on your hands. If you would prefer to come with me to Babylon, come along, and I will look after you; but if you would prefer not to come with me to Babylon, never mind. Look, the whole land is before you; go wherever it seems good and right for you to go.”

Y ahora yo te he soltado hoy de las esposas que tenías en tus manos. Si te está bien venir conmigo a Babilonia, ven, y yo miraré por ti; mas si no te está bien venir conmigo a Babilonia, déjalo. Mira, toda la tierra está delante de ti; ve a donde mejor y más cómodo te pareciere ir.

5 A s Jeremiah was still not going back, he said, “Go on back then to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and stay with him among the people; or else go anywhere it seems right for you to go.” So the captain of the bodyguard gave him a ration and a gift and let him go.

Y aun él no había respondido que se volvería, cuando el capitán le dijo: Vuélvete a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, al cual el rey de Babilonia ha puesto sobre todas las ciudades de Judá, y vive con él en medio del pueblo; o ve a donde te pareciere más cómodo ir. Y le dio el capitán de la guardia presentes y dones, y le envió.

6 T hen Jeremiah went to Mizpah to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam and stayed with him among the people who were left in the land.

Y vino entonces Jeremías a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam, a Mizpa, y moró con él en medio del pueblo que había quedado en la tierra.

7 N ow all the commanders of the forces that were in the field, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam over the land and that he had put him in charge of the men, women and children, those of the poorest of the land who had not been exiled to Babylon.

Y todos los príncipes del ejército que estaban por el campo, ellos y sus hombres, oyeron como el rey de Babilonia había puesto a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam sobre la tierra, y que le había encomendado los hombres, y las mujeres, y los niños, y los pobres de la tierra; los que no fueron transportados a Babilonia,

8 S o they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah, along with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of the Maacathite, both they and their men.

y vinieron luego a Gedalías en Mizpa, Ismael hijo de Netanías, y Johanán y Jonatán hijos de Carea, y Seraías hijo de Tanhumet, y los hijos de Efai netofatita, y Jezanías hijo de Maacati, ellos y su hombres.

9 T hen Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, swore to them and to their men, saying, “ Do not be afraid of serving the Chaldeans; stay in the land and serve the king of Babylon, that it may go well with you.

Y les juró Gedalías hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, a ellos y a sus hombres, diciendo: No tengáis temor de servir a los caldeos; habitad en la tierra, y servid al rey de Babilonia, y tendréis bien.

10 N ow as for me, behold, I am going to stay at Mizpah to stand for you before the Chaldeans who come to us; but as for you, gather in wine and summer fruit and oil and put them in your storage vessels, and live in your cities that you have taken over.”

Y veis aquí que yo habito en Mizpa, para estar delante de los caldeos que vendrán a nosotros; mas vosotros, coged el vino, y el pan, y el aceite, y ponedlo en vuestros almacenes, y quedaos en vuestras ciudades que habéis tomado.

11 L ikewise, also all the Jews who were in Moab and among the sons of Ammon and in Edom and who were in all the other countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant for Judah, and that he had appointed over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan.

Y asimismo todos los judíos que estaban en Moab, y entre los hijos de Amón, y en Edom, y los que estaban en todas las tierras, cuando oyeron decir cómo el rey de Babilonia había dejado algunos en Judea, y que había puesto sobre ellos a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán,

12 T hen all the Jews returned from all the places to which they had been driven away and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah at Mizpah, and gathered in wine and summer fruit in great abundance.

Todos estos judíos tornaron entonces de todas las partes adonde habían sido echados, y vinieron a tierra de Judá, a Gedalías en Mizpa; y cogieron vino y muchos frutos.

13 N ow Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces that were in the field came to Gedaliah at Mizpah

Y Johanán, hijo de Carea, y todos los príncipes de los ejércitos que estaban en el campo, vinieron a Gedalías en Mizpa,

14 a nd said to him, “Are you well aware that Baalis the king of the sons of Ammon has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life?” But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam did not believe them.

y le dijeron: ¿No sabes de cierto cómo Baalis, rey de los hijos de Amón, ha enviado a Ismael hijo de Netanías, para matarte? Pero Gedalías hijo de Ahicam no les creyó.

15 T hen Johanan the son of Kareah spoke secretly to Gedaliah in Mizpah, saying, “ Let me go and kill Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and not a man will know! Why should he take your life, so that all the Jews who are gathered to you would be scattered and the remnant of Judah would perish?”

Entonces Johanán hijo de Carea habló a Gedalías en secreto, en Mizpa, diciendo: Yo iré ahora, y heriré a Ismael hijo de Netanías, y hombre no lo sabrá, ¿por qué te ha de matar, y todos los judíos que se han recogido a ti se dispersarán, y perecerá el resto de Judá?

16 B ut Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, “ Do not do this thing, for you are telling a lie about Ishmael.”

Pero Gedalías hijo de Ahicam dijo a Johanán hijo de Carea: No hagas esto, porque falso es lo que tú dices de Ismael.
