1 J ames, a bond-servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes who are dispersed abroad: Greetings.

¶ Jacobo, siervo de Dios y del Señor Jesús, el Cristo, a las doce tribus que están esparcidas, salud.

2 C onsider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,

¶ Hermanos míos, tened por sumo gozo cuando os halléis en diversas pruebas,

3 k nowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

sabiendo que la prueba de vuestra fe obra paciencia.

4 A nd let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Y la paciencia consuma la obra, para que seáis perfectos y enteros, sin faltar en alguna cosa.

5 B ut if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Y si alguno de vosotros tiene falta de sabiduría, pídala a Dios, (el cual da a todos abundantemente, y sin reproche) y le será dada.

6 B ut he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.

Pero pida en fe, no dudando nada; porque el que duda, es semejante a la onda del mar, que es movida del viento, y es echada de una parte a otra.

7 F or that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord,

Ciertamente no piense el tal hombre que recibirá ninguna cosa del Señor.

8 b eing a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

El hombre de doble ánimo, es inconstante en todos sus caminos.

9 B ut the brother of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position;

El hermano que es de baja suerte, gloríese en su alteza;

10 a nd the rich man is to glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away.

mas el que es rico, en su bajeza; porque él pasará como la flor de la hierba.

11 F or the sun rises with a scorching wind and withers the grass; and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so too the rich man in the midst of his pursuits will fade away.

Porque salido el sol con ardor, la hierba se seca, y su flor se cae, y perece su hermosa apariencia; así también se marchitará el rico en todos sus caminos.

12 B lessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Bienaventurado el varón que padece con paciencia la tentación, porque cuando fuere probado, recibirá la corona de vida, que Dios ha prometido a los que le aman.

13 L et no one say when he is tempted, “ I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.

¶ Cuando alguno es tentado, no diga que es tentado de Dios; porque Dios no puede ser tentado de los males, ni él tienta a alguno;

14 B ut each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.

pero cada uno es tentado, cuando de su propia concupiscencia es atraído, y cebado.

15 T hen when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.

Y la concupiscencia después que ha concebido, da a luz al pecado; y el pecado, siendo cumplido, engendra muerte.

16 D o not be deceived, my beloved brethren.

Hermanos míos muy amados, no erréis.

17 E very good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

Toda buena dádiva, y todo don perfecto es de lo alto, que desciende del Padre de las lumbres, en el cual no hay mudanza, ni sombra de variación.

18 I n the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.

El, de su voluntad nos ha engendrado por la Palabra de verdad, para que seamos las primicias de sus criaturas.

19 T his you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger;

¶ Por esto, hermanos míos amados, todo hombre sea pronto para oír, tardo para hablar, tardo para airarse;

20 f or the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.

porque la ira del hombre no obra la justicia de Dios.

21 T herefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.

Por lo cual, dejando toda inmundicia, y restos de malicia, recibid con mansedumbre la Palabra ingerida en vosotros, la cual puede hacer salvas vuestras almas.

22 B ut prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

Mas sed hacedores de la Palabra, y no tan solamente oidores, engañándoos a vosotros mismos.

23 F or if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;

Porque si alguno oye la Palabra, y no la pone por obra, este tal es semejante al hombre que considera en un espejo su rostro natural.

24 f or once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.

Porque él se consideró a sí mismo, y se fue; y a la hora se olvidó qué tal era.

25 B ut one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

Mas el que hubiere mirado atentamente en la Ley de perfecta libertad, y hubiere perseverado en ella, no siendo oidor olvidadizo, sino hacedor de la obra, este tal será bienaventurado en su hecho.

26 I f anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

Si alguno piensa ser religioso entre vosotros, y no refrena su lengua, sino que engaña su corazón, la religión del tal es vana.

27 P ure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

La religión pura y sin mácula delante del Dios y Padre es visitar a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus tribulaciones, y guardarse sin mancha de este mundo.
