1 N ow after five days Ananias the high priest came down with the elders and a certain orator named Tertullus. These gave evidence to the governor against Paul.

Cinco días después llegó el sumo sacerdote Ananías con algunos de los ancianos y un orador llamado Tértulo, y se presentaron ante el gobernador para acusar a Pablo.

2 A nd when he was called upon, Tertullus began his accusation, saying: “Seeing that through you we enjoy great peace, and prosperity is being brought to this nation by your foresight,

Cuando llamaron a Pablo, Tértulo comenzó su acusación de la siguiente manera: «Excelentísimo Félix, gracias a ti gozamos de paz, y por tu prudencia y buen gobierno el pueblo tiene muchas cosas buenas.

3 w e accept it always and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.

Esto lo percibimos en muchos lugares, y estamos muy agradecidos.

4 N evertheless, not to be tedious to you any further, I beg you to hear, by your courtesy, a few words from us.

Como no queremos molestarte más, te ruego que nos oigas un momento, y que juzgues conforme a tu equidad.

5 F or we have found this man a plague, a creator of dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

Nos hemos dado cuenta de que este hombre es una plaga; por dondequiera que va promueve la sedición entre los judíos, y además encabeza la secta de los nazarenos.

6 H e even tried to profane the temple, and we seized him, and wanted to judge him according to our law.

¡Lo más grave es que intentó profanar nuestro templo! Por eso lo aprehendimos, para juzgarlo conforme a nuestra ley,

7 B ut the commander Lysias came by and with great violence took him out of our hands,

pero intervino el tribuno Lisias, y con lujo de violencia nos lo arrebató de las manos.

8 c ommanding his accusers to come to you. By examining him yourself you may ascertain all these things of which we accuse him.”

Como nosotros somos la parte acusadora, nos mandó comparecer ante ti. Cuando lo juzgues, tú mismo podrás darte cuenta de que nuestras acusaciones son ciertas.»

9 A nd the Jews also assented, maintaining that these things were so. The Defense Before Felix

Los judíos confirmaron esto al afirmar la veracidad de las acusaciones.

10 T hen Paul, after the governor had nodded to him to speak, answered: “Inasmuch as I know that you have been for many years a judge of this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself,

El gobernador hizo entonces a Pablo una señal para que hablara, y éste dijo: «Yo sé que llevas muchos años impartiendo justicia en esta nación, así que con mucho gusto me defenderé.

11 b ecause you may ascertain that it is no more than twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem to worship.

Como podrás comprobar, no hace más de doce días que fui a adorar a Jerusalén.

12 A nd they neither found me in the temple disputing with anyone nor inciting the crowd, either in the synagogues or in the city.

Nadie me vio discutir con ninguno, ni sublevar a la multitud en el templo, ni en las sinagogas ni en la ciudad.

13 N or can they prove the things of which they now accuse me.

Las cosas por las que me acusan no te las pueden probar.

14 B ut this I confess to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect, so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the Law and in the Prophets.

Sin embargo, una cosa debo confesar, y es que sirvo al Dios de mis padres de acuerdo con el Camino que ellos llaman herejía. Yo creo en todo lo que está escrito en la ley y en los profetas,

15 I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.

y tengo, como ellos, la misma esperanza en Dios de que habrán de resucitar los justos y los injustos.

16 T his being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.

Yo siempre me esfuerzo por mantener una conciencia limpia que no ofenda a Dios ni a los hombres.

17 “ Now after many years I came to bring alms and offerings to my nation,

Después de algunos años fui a mi pueblo para llevar limosnas y presentar ofrendas.

18 i n the midst of which some Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with a mob nor with tumult.

Yo me estaba purificando en el templo cuando me encontraron allí, pero ni había mucha gente ni yo estaba alborotando a nadie.

19 T hey ought to have been here before you to object if they had anything against me.

Los que me vieron eran unos judíos de la provincia de Asia. De haber tenido ellos algo contra mí, debieron haber venido a verte personalmente para acusarme.

20 O r else let those who are here themselves say if they found any wrongdoing in me while I stood before the council,

De lo contrario, que digan los aquí presentes si cuando me presenté en el concilio me vieron cometer algún delito.

21 u nless it is for this one statement which I cried out, standing among them, ‘Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being judged by you this day.’” Felix Procrastinates

Lo que yo dije en su presencia, y lo dije a voz en cuello, fue: “Ustedes me están juzgando por causa de la resurrección de los muertos.”»

22 B ut when Felix heard these things, having more accurate knowledge of the Way, he adjourned the proceedings and said, “When Lysias the commander comes down, I will make a decision on your case.”

Como Félix estaba bien informado de este Camino, cuando oyó esto aplazó el juicio, y dijo: «Cuando venga el tribuno Lisias, me gustaría conocer más de este asunto.»

23 S o he commanded the centurion to keep Paul and to let him have liberty, and told him not to forbid any of his friends to provide for or visit him.

Luego, mandó al centurión que custodiara a Pablo, pero que le diera cierta libertad y permitiera que los suyos le sirvieran.

24 A nd after some days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

Unos días después, Félix llegó con Drusila, su mujer, que era judía: Mandó llamar a Pablo y quiso oír acerca de la fe en Jesucristo.

25 N ow as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, “Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you.”

Pero cuando Pablo le habló acerca de la justicia, del dominio propio y del juicio venidero, Félix se espantó y le dijo: «Por ahora, puedes retirarte. En su momento volveré a llamarte.»

26 M eanwhile he also hoped that money would be given him by Paul, that he might release him. Therefore he sent for him more often and conversed with him.

Y es que, además, Félix esperaba que Pablo le ofreciera dinero para soltarlo; por eso muchas veces lo llamaba para hablar con él.

27 B ut after two years Porcius Festus succeeded Felix; and Felix, wanting to do the Jews a favor, left Paul bound.

Dos años después, Porcio Festo llegó para suceder a Félix, y como quería quedar bien con los judíos, dejó preso a Pablo.
