1 M anasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem.

Manasés tenía doce años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó en Jerusalén cincuenta y cinco años.

2 B ut he did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel.

Pero hizo lo malo a los ojos del Señor, y cayó en las repugnantes prácticas de las naciones que el Señor había expulsado de la presencia de los israelitas,

3 F or he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; he raised up altars for the Baals, and made wooden images; and he worshiped all the host of heaven and served them.

pues volvió a levantar los lugares altos que su padre Ezequías había derribado, y levantó otros altares a los baales, hizo imágenes de Asera, y adoró a todo el ejército de los cielos y les rindió culto;

4 H e also built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, “In Jerusalem shall My name be forever.”

edificó también altares en el templo del Señor, del cual había dicho el Señor: «Mi nombre estará en Jerusalén para siempre»,

5 A nd he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the Lord.

y en los dos atrios del templo del Señor levantó altares a todo el ejército de los cielos;

6 A lso he caused his sons to pass through the fire in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom; he practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft and sorcery, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger.

en el valle de Ben Jinón ofreció a sus hijos en holocausto, invocaba a los espíritus, practicaba la adivinación, y consultaba a agoreros y encantadores, con lo que excedió su maldad a los ojos del Señor y despertó su ira.

7 H e even set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, “In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever;

Para colmo, mandó hacer una imagen fundida y la puso en el templo de Dios, del cual Dios había dicho a David y a Salomón su hijo: «En este templo, y en Jerusalén, ciudad que elegí por encima de todas las tribus de Israel, pondré mi nombre para siempre,

8 a nd I will not again remove the foot of Israel from the land which I have appointed for your fathers—only if they are careful to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.”

y nunca más permitiré que los israelitas abandonen la tierra que yo entregué a sus padres, siempre y cuando cumplan todas las cosas, toda la ley, los estatutos y los preceptos, que por medio de Moisés yo les he mandado, y las pongan en práctica.»

9 S o Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to do more evil than the nations whom the Lord had destroyed before the children of Israel. Manasseh Restored After Repentance

Manasés hizo que Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén se descarriaran y cometieran peores cosas que las naciones que el Señor había destruido a la vista de los israelitas.

10 A nd the Lord spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they would not listen.

El Señor habló con Manasés y con su pueblo, pero ellos no le hicieron caso.

11 T herefore the Lord brought upon them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh with hooks, bound him with bronze fetters, and carried him off to Babylon.

Por eso el Señor lanzó contra ellos a los generales del ejército del rey de Asiria, y éstos aprisionaron a Manasés con grilletes, y encadenado lo llevaron a Babilonia.

12 N ow when he was in affliction, he implored the Lord his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,

Pero en su angustia oró al Señor su Dios, y se humilló totalmente en la presencia del Dios de sus padres.

13 a nd prayed to Him; and He received his entreaty, heard his supplication, and brought him back to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord was God.

Dios oyó su oración y le respondió permitiendo que volviera a Jerusalén y recuperara su reino. Así Manasés reconoció que el Señor era Dios.

14 A fter this he built a wall outside the City of David on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, as far as the entrance of the Fish Gate; and it enclosed Ophel, and he raised it to a very great height. Then he put military captains in all the fortified cities of Judah.

Después de esto, Manasés edificó la muralla exterior de la ciudad de David, desde la parte occidental de Guijón, en el valle, hasta la entrada de la puerta del Pescado; amuralló Ofel, elevó la altura de la muralla, y puso jefes militares en todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá.

15 H e took away the foreign gods and the idol from the house of the Lord, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the Lord and in Jerusalem; and he cast them out of the city.

Quitó además del templo del Señor los dioses ajenos, y el ídolo, y todos los altares que había edificado en el monte del templo del Señor y en Jerusalén, y los echó fuera de la ciudad;

16 H e also repaired the altar of the Lord, sacrificed peace offerings and thank offerings on it, and commanded Judah to serve the Lord God of Israel.

luego reparó el altar del Señor, y presentó en él sacrificios y ofrendas de paz y de alabanza, y ordenó a Judá servir al Señor y Dios de Israel.

17 N evertheless the people still sacrificed on the high places, but only to the Lord their God. Death of Manasseh

Pero el pueblo aún sacrificaba en los lugares altos, aunque lo hacía para honrar al Señor su Dios.

18 N ow the rest of the acts of Manasseh, his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of the Lord God of Israel, indeed they are written in the book of the kings of Israel.

Los demás hechos de Manasés, y su oración a su Dios, y las palabras de los videntes que le hablaron en nombre del Señor y Dios de Israel, se hallan escritos en las actas de los reyes de Israel.

19 A lso his prayer and how God received his entreaty, and all his sin and trespass, and the sites where he built high places and set up wooden images and carved images, before he was humbled, indeed they are written among the sayings of Hozai.

También su oración, y cómo ésta fue oída, y todos sus pecados y rebeldías, y los sitios donde edificó lugares altos y erigió imágenes de Asera e ídolos, antes de humillarse, se hallan escritas en las crónicas de los videntes.

20 S o Manasseh rested with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house. Then his son Amon reigned in his place. Amon’s Reign and Death

Finalmente, Manasés descansó entre sus antepasados, y fue sepultado en su palacio. En su lugar reinó Amón, su hijo. Reinado de Amón

21 A mon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem.

Amón tenía veintidós años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó en Jerusalén dos años.

22 B ut he did evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasseh had done; for Amon sacrificed to all the carved images which his father Manasseh had made, and served them.

Pero hizo lo malo a los ojos del Señor, tal y como lo había hecho Manasés, su padre, pues ofreció sacrificios y sirvió a todos los ídolos que su padre Manasés había mandado hacer.

23 A nd he did not humble himself before the Lord, as his father Manasseh had humbled himself; but Amon trespassed more and more.

Y nunca se humilló delante del Señor, como se humilló Manasés su padre; al contrario, aumentó el pecado.

24 T hen his servants conspired against him, and killed him in his own house.

Pero sus siervos conspiraron contra él, y lo mataron en su palacio.

25 B ut the people of the land executed all those who had conspired against King Amon. Then the people of the land made his son Josiah king in his place.

Entonces el pueblo de la tierra mató a todos los que habían conspirado contra el rey Amón; y en su lugar proclamó como rey a Josías, su hijo.
