1 Y cuando el rey Ezequías lo oyó, rasgó sus vestidos, y se cubrió de cilicio, y entró en la Casa del SEÑOR.

And it cometh to pass, at king Hezekiah's hearing, that he rendeth his garments, and covereth himself with sackcloth, and entereth the house of Jehovah,

2 Y envió a Eliacim el mayordomo, y a Sebna escriba, y a los ancianos de los sacerdotes, vestidos de cilicio a Isaías profeta hijo de Amós,

and sendeth Eliakim, who over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covering themselves with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet, son of Amoz,

3 q ue le dijeran: Así dijo Ezequías: Este día es día de angustia, y de reprensión, y de blasfemia; porque los hijos han venido hasta la rotura, y la que da a luz no tiene fuerzas.

and they say unto him, `Thus said Hezekiah -- A day of distress, and rebuke, and despising this day; for come have sons unto the birth, and power there is not to bring forth.

4 P or ventura oirá el SEÑOR tu Dios todas las palabras de Rabsaces, al cual el rey de los Asirios su señor ha enviado para injuriar al Dios vivo, y reprenderá las palabras, las cuales el SEÑOR tu Dios ha oído; por tanto, eleva oración por el remanente que aun se halla.

`It may be Jehovah thy God doth hear all the words of the chief of the butlers with which the king of Asshur his lord hath sent him to reproach the living God, and hath decided concerning the words that Jehovah thy God hath heard, and thou hast lifted up prayer for the remnant that is found.'

5 V inieron pues los siervos del rey Ezequías a Isaías.

And the servants of king Hezekiah come in unto Isaiah,

6 E Isaías les respondió: Así diréis a vuestro señor: Así dijo el SEÑOR: No temas por las palabras que has oído, con las cuales me han blasfemado los siervos del rey de Asiria.

and Isaiah saith to them, `Thus do ye say unto your lord: Thus said Jehovah, Be not afraid because of the words that thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Asshur have reviled Me.

7 H e aquí yo pongo en él un espíritu, y oirá rumor, y volverá a su tierra; y yo haré que en su tierra caiga a espada.

Lo, I am giving in him a spirit, and he hath heard a report, and hath turned back to his land, and I have caused him to fall by the sword in his land.'

8 ¶ Y regresando Rabsaces, halló al rey de Asiria combatiendo a Libna; porque había oído que se había ido de Laquis.

And the chief of the butlers turneth back and findeth the king of Asshur fighting against Libnah, for he hath heard that he hath journeyed from Lachish.

9 Y oyó decir de Tirhaca rey de Etiopía: He aquí ha salido para hacerte guerra. Entonces volvió él, y envió embajadores a Ezequías, diciendo:

And he heareth concerning Tirhakah king of Cush, saying, `Lo, he hath come out to fight with thee;' and he turneth and sendeth messengers unto Hezekiah, saying,

10 A sí diréis a Ezequías rey de Judá: No te engañe tu Dios en quien tú confías, para decir: Jerusalén no será entregada en mano del rey de Asiria.

`Thus do ye speak unto Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God lift thee up in whom thou art trusting, saying, Jerusalem is not given into the hand of the king of Asshur.

11 H e aquí tú has oído lo que han hecho los reyes de Asiria a todas las tierras, destruyéndolas, ¿y has tú de escapar?

Lo, thou hast heard that which the kings of Asshur have done to all the lands -- to devote them; and thou art delivered!

12 ¿ Por ventura los libraron los dioses de los gentiles, que mis padres destruyeron, es a saber, Gozán, Harán, Resef, y los hijos de Edén que estaban en Telasar?

did the gods of the nations deliver them whom my fathers destroyed -- Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden, who in Thelassar?

13 ¿ Dónde está el rey de Hamat, el rey de Arfad, el rey de la ciudad de Sefarvaim, de Hena, y de Iva?

Where the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah?'

14 Y tomó Ezequías las letras de mano de los embajadores; y después que las hubo leído, subió a la Casa del SEÑOR, y las extendió Ezequías delante del SEÑOR.

And Hezekiah taketh the letters out of the hand of the messengers, and readeth them, and goeth up to the house of Jehovah, and Hezekiah spreadeth it before Jehovah.

15 Y oró Ezequías delante del SEÑOR, diciendo: SEÑOR Dios de Israel, que habitas sobre los querubines, tú solo eres Dios a todos los reinos de la tierra; tú hiciste el cielo y la tierra.

And Hezekiah prayeth before Jehovah, and saith, `O Jehovah, God of Israel, inhabiting the cherubs, Thou God Himself -- Thyself alone -- to all the kingdoms of the earth: Thou hast made the heavens and the earth.

16 I nclina, oh SEÑOR, tu oído, y oye; abre, oh SEÑOR, tus ojos, y mira; y oye las palabras de Senaquerib, que ha enviado a blasfemar al Dios viviente.

Incline, O Jehovah, Thine ear, and hear; open, O Jehovah, Thine eyes, and see; and hear Thou the words of Sennacherib with which he hath sent him to reproach the living God.

17 E s verdad, oh SEÑOR, que los reyes de Asiria han destruido a los gentiles y sus tierras;

`Truly, O Jehovah, kings of Asshur have laid waste the nations, and their land,

18 y que pusieron en el fuego a sus dioses, por cuanto ellos no eran dioses, sino obra de manos de hombres, madera o piedra, y así los destruyeron.

and have put their gods into fire, for they no gods, but work of the hands of man, wood and stone, and destroy them.

19 A hora, pues, oh SEÑOR Dios nuestro, sálvanos ahora de su mano, para que sepan todos los reinos de la tierra que tú solo eres el SEÑOR Dios.

And now, O Jehovah our God, save us, we pray Thee, out of his hand, and know do all kingdoms of the earth that Thou Jehovah God -- Thyself alone.'

20 E ntonces Isaías hijo de Amós envió a decir a Ezequías: Así dijo el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel: Lo que me rogaste acerca de Senaquerib rey de Asiria, he oído.

And Isaiah son of Amoz sendeth unto Hezekiah, saying, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed unto Me concerning Sennacherib king of Asshur I have heard:

21 E sta es la palabra que el SEÑOR ha hablado contra él: ¿Te ha menospreciado? ¿Te ha escarnecido, oh virgen hija de Sion? Ha movido su cabeza a tus espaldas, oh hija de Jerusalén.

this the word that Jehovah spake concerning him: `Trampled on thee -- laughed at thee, Hath the virgin daughter of Zion Behind thee shaken the head -- Hath the daughter of Jerusalem?

22 ¿ A quién has injuriado y a quién has blasfemado? ¿Y contra quién has hablado alto, y has alzado en alto tus ojos? Contra el Santo de Israel.

Whom hast thou reproached and reviled? And against whom lifted up a voice? Yea, thou dost lift up on high thine eyes -- Against the Holy One of Israel!

23 P or mano de tus mensajeros has proferido injuria contra el Señor, y has dicho: Con la multitud de mis carros he subido a las cumbres de los montes; a las cuestas del Líbano, y cortaré sus altos cedros, sus hayas escogidas; y entraré a la morada de su término, al bosque de su Carmel.

By the hand of thy messengers Thou hast reproached the Lord, and sayest: In the multitude of my chariots I have come up to a high place of mountains -- The sides of Lebanon, And I cut down the height of its cedars, The choice of its firs, And I enter the lodging of its extremity, The forest of its Carmel.

24 Y o he cavado y bebido las aguas ajenas, y he secado con la planta de mis pies todos los ríos de munición.

I have digged, and drunk strange waters, And I dry up with the sole of my steps All floods of a bulwark.

25 ¿ Nunca has oído que desde largo tiempo atrás la hice yo, y de días antiguos la he formado? Y ahora la he hecho venir, y será para destrucción de ciudades fuertes en montones de ruinas.

Hast thou not heard from afar, it I made, From days of old that I formed it? Now I have brought it in, And it becometh a desolation, Ruinous heaps fenced cities,

26 Y sus moradores, cortos de manos, quebrantados y confusos, serán cual hierba del campo, como legumbre verde; heno de los tejados, que antes que venga a madurez es seco.

And their inhabitants feeble-handed, They were broken down, and are dried up, They have been the herb of the field, And the greenness of the tender grass, Grass of the roofs, And blasted corn -- before it hath risen up!

27 Y o he sabido tu sentarte, tu salir y tu entrar, y tu furor contra mí.

And thy sitting down, and thy going out, And thy coming in, I have known, And thine anger towards Me;

28 P or cuanto te has airado contra mí, y tu estruendo ha subido a mis oídos; por tanto yo pondré mi anzuelo en tus narices, y mi freno en tus labios, y yo te haré volver por el camino por donde viniste.

Because of thine anger towards Me, And thy noise -- it came up into Mine ears, I have put My hook in thy nose, And My bridle in thy lips, And have caused thee to turn back, In the way in which thou camest.

29 Y esto te será por señal: Este año comerás lo que nacerá de suyo, y el segundo año lo que volverá a nacer de suyo; y el tercer año haréis sementera, y segaréis, y plantaréis viñas, y comeréis el fruto de ellas.

And this to thee the sign, Food of the year the spontaneous growth, And in the second year the self-produced, And in the third year sow ye, and reap, And plant vineyards, and eat their fruits.

30 Y lo que hubiere escapado, lo que habrá quedado de la casa de Judá, volverá a echar raíz abajo, y hará fruto arriba.

And it hath continued -- The escaped of the house of Judah That hath been left -- to take root beneath, And hath made fruit upward.

31 P orque saldrán de Jerusalén remanente, y liberación desde el monte de Sion; el celo del SEÑOR de los ejércitos hará esto.

For from Jerusalem goeth out a remnant, And an escape from mount Zion; The zeal of Jehovah doth this.

32 P or tanto, el SEÑOR dice así del rey de Asiria: No entrará en esta ciudad, ni echará saeta en ella; ni vendrá delante de ella escudo, ni será echado contra ella baluarte.

Therefore, thus said Jehovah, Concerning the king of Asshur: He doth not come in unto this city, Nor doth he shoot there an arrow, Nor doth he come before it with shield. Nor doth he pour out against it a mount.

33 P or el camino que vino se volverá, y no entrará en esta ciudad, dice el SEÑOR.

In the way that he cometh in -- In it he turneth back, And unto this city he doth not come in, The affirmation of Jehovah --

34 P orque yo ampararé a esta ciudad para salvarla, por amor de mí, y por amor de David mi siervo.

And I have covered over this city, To save it, for Mine own sake, And for the sake of David My servant.'

35 ¶ Y aconteció que la misma noche salió el ángel del SEÑOR, e hirió en el campamento de los Asirios ciento ochenta y cinco mil hombres; y cuando se levantaron por la mañana, he aquí los cuerpos de los muertos.

And it cometh to pass, in that night, that a messenger of Jehovah goeth out, and smiteth in the camp of Asshur a hundred eighty and five thousand, and they rise early in the morning, and lo, all of them dead corpses.

36 E ntonces Senaquerib, rey de Asiria partió, y se fue de allí y estuvo en Nínive.

And Sennacherib king of Asshur journeyeth, and goeth, and turneth back, and dwelleth in Nineveh;

37 Y aconteció, que estando él adorando en la casa de Nisroc su dios, Adramelec y Sarezer sus hijos lo hirieron a espada; y huyeron a tierra de Ararat. Y reinó en su lugar Esar-hadón su hijo.

and it cometh to pass, he is bowing himself in the house of Nisroch his god, and Adramelech and Sharezar have smitten him with the sword, and they have escaped to the land of Ararat, and Esar-Haddon his son reigneth in his stead.
