1 ¶ Entonces Ahitofel dijo a Absalón: Yo escogeré ahora doce mil hombres, y me levantaré, y seguiré a David esta noche;

And Ahithophel said unto Absalom, `Let me choose, I pray thee, twelve thousand men, and I arise and pursue after David to-night,

2 y daré sobre él, que él estará cansado y flaco de manos; lo atemorizaré, y todo el pueblo que está con él huirá, y heriré al rey solo.

and come upon him, and he weary and feeble-handed, and I have caused him to tremble, and all the people have fled who with him, and I have smitten the king by himself,

3 A sí tornaré todo el pueblo a ti; y cuando ellos hubieren vuelto, (pues aquel hombre es el que tú quieres) todo el pueblo estará en paz.

and I bring back all the people unto thee -- as the turning back of the whole the man whom thou art seeking -- all the people are peace.

4 E sta palabra fue recta en ojos Absalón y de todos los ancianos de Israel.

And the thing is right in the eyes of Absalom, and in the eyes of all the elders of Israel.

5 Y dijo Absalón: Yo te ruego que llames también a Husai, el arquita, para que asimismo oigamos lo que él dirá.

And Absalom saith, `Call, I pray thee, also for Hushai the Archite, and we hear what in his mouth -- even he.'

6 Y cuando Husai vino a Absalón, le habló Absalón, diciendo: Así ha dicho Ahitofel; ¿seguiremos su consejo, o no? Di tú.

And Hushai cometh in unto Absalom, and Absalom speaketh unto him, saying, `According to this word hath Ahithophel spoken; do we do his word? if not, thou -- speak thou.'

7 E ntonces Husai dijo a Absalón: El consejo que ha dado esta vez Ahitofel no es bueno.

And Hushai saith unto Absalom, `Not good the counsel that Ahithophel hath counselled at this time.'

8 Y añadió Husai: Tú sabes que tu padre y los suyos son hombres valientes, y que están ahora con amargura de ánimo, como la osa en el campo cuando le han quitado los hijos. Además, tu padre es hombre de guerra, y no pasará la noche con el pueblo.

And Hushai saith, `Thou hast known thy father and his men, that they heroes, and they are bitter in soul as a bereaved bear in a field, and thy father a man of war, and doth not lodge with the people;

9 H e aquí él estará ahora escondido en alguna cueva, o en algún otro lugar; y si al principio cayeren algunos de los tuyos, lo oirá quien lo oyere, y dirá: El pueblo que sigue a Absalón ha sido derrotado.

lo, now, he is hidden in one of the pits, or in one of the places, and it hath been, at the falling among them at the commencement, that the hearer hath heard, and said, There hath been a slaughter among the people who after Absalom;

10 A sí aun el hombre valiente, cuyo corazón sea como corazón de león, sin duda desmayará; porque todo Israel sabe que tu padre es hombre valiente, y que los que están con él son esforzados.

and he also, the son of valour, whose heart as the heart of the lion, doth utterly melt, for all Israel doth know that thy father is a hero, and sons of valour those with him.

11 M as yo aconsejo que todo Israel se junte a ti, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, que será en multitud como la arena que está a la orilla del mar, y que tú en persona vayas a la batalla.

`So that I have counselled: Let all Israel be diligently gathered unto thee, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, as the sand that by the sea for multitude, and thou thyself art going in the midst;

12 E ntonces le acometeremos en cualquier lugar que pudiere hallarse, y daremos sobre él como cuando el rocío cae sobre la tierra, y ni uno dejaremos de él, y de todos los que con él están.

and we have come in unto him in one of the places where he is found, and we upon him as the dew falleth on the ground, and there hath not been left of him and of all the men who with him even one.

13 Y si se refugia en alguna ciudad, todos los de Israel traerán sogas a aquella ciudad, y la arrastraremos hasta el arroyo, que nunca más parezca piedra de ella.

And if unto a city he is gathered, then they have caused all Israel to bear unto that city ropes, and we have drawn it unto the brook till that there hath not been found there even a stone.'

14 E ntonces Absalón y todos los de Israel dijeron: El consejo de Husai, el arquita, es mejor que el consejo de Ahitofel. Porque el SEÑOR había mandado que el acertado consejo de Ahitofel fuera disipado, para que el SEÑOR hiciera venir el mal sobre Absalón.

And Absalom saith -- and all the men of Israel -- `Better the counsel of Hushai the Archite than the counsel of Ahithophel;' and Jehovah willed to make void the good counsel of Ahithophel for the sake of Jehovah's bringing unto Absalom the evil.

15 ¶ Dijo luego Husai a Sadoc y a Abiatar sacerdotes: Así y así aconsejó Ahitofel a Absalón y a los ancianos de Israel; y yo aconsejé así y así.

And Hushai saith unto Zadok and unto Abiathar the priests, `Thus and thus hath Ahithophel counselled Absalom and the elders of Israel, and thus and thus I have counselled;

16 P or tanto enviad inmediatamente, y dad aviso a David, diciendo: No te quedes esta noche en los llanos del desierto, sino pasa luego el Jordán, para que el rey no sea consumido, y todo el pueblo que con él está.

and now, send hastily, and declare to David, saying, Lodge not to-night in the plains of the wilderness, and also, certainly pass over, lest there be a swallowing up of the king and of all the people who are with him.'

17 Y Jonatán y Ahimaas estaban junto a la fuente de Rogel, porque no podían ellos mostrarse viniendo a la ciudad; y fue allá una criada, la cual les dio el aviso; y ellos fueron, y dieron aviso al rey David.

And Jonathan and Ahimaaz are standing at En-Rogel, and the maid-servant hath gone and declared to them -- and they go and have declared to king David -- for they are not able to be seen to go in to the city.

18 P ero fueron vistos por un joven, el cual lo dijo a Absalón; sin embargo los dos se dieron prisa a caminar, y llegaron a casa de un hombre en Bahurim, que tenía un pozo en su patio, dentro del cual ellos descendieron.

And a youth seeth them, and declareth to Absalom; and they go on both of them hastily, and come in unto the house of a man in Bahurim, and he hath a well in his court, and they go down there,

19 Y tomando la mujer de la casa una manta, la extendió sobre la boca del pozo, y tendió sobre ella del trigo majado, para que el negocio no fuera entendido.

and the woman taketh and spreadeth the covering over the face of the well, and spreadeth on it the ground corn, and the thing hath not been known.

20 L legando luego los criados de Absalón a la casa a la mujer, le dijeron: ¿Dónde están Ahimaas y Jonatán? Y la mujer les respondió: Ya han pasado el vado de las aguas. Y como ellos los buscaron y no los hallaron volvieron a Jerusalén.

And the servants of Absalom come in unto the woman to the house, and say, `Where Ahimaaz and Jonathan?' and the woman saith to them, `They passed over the brook of water;' and they seek, and have not found, and turn back to Jerusalem.

21 Y después que ellos partieron, aquellos salieron del pozo, y se fueron, y dieron aviso al rey David; y le dijeron: Levantaos y daos prisa a pasar las aguas, porque Ahitofel ha dado tal consejo contra vosotros.

And it cometh to pass, after their going on, that they come up out of the well, and go and declare to king David, and say unto David, `Rise ye, and pass over hastily the waters, for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.'

22 ¶ Entonces David se levantó, y todo el pueblo que estaba con él, y pasaron el Jordán antes que amaneciera; ni siquiera faltó uno que no pasara el Jordán.

And David riseth, and all the people who with him, and they pass over the Jordan, till the light of the morning, till one hath not been lacking who hath not passed over the Jordan.

23 Y Ahitofel, viendo que no se había seguido su consejo, enalbardó su asno, y se levantó, y se fue a su casa en su ciudad; y ordenó su casa, y se ahorcó y murió, y fue sepultado en el sepulcro de su padre.

And Ahithophel hath seen that his counsel was not done, and he saddleth the ass, and riseth and goeth unto his house, unto his city, and giveth charge unto his household, and strangleth himself, and dieth, and he is buried in the burying-place of his father.

24 Y David llegó a Mahanaim, y Absalón pasó el Jordán con todos los varones de Israel.

And David came to Mahanaim, and Absalom passed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him;

25 Y Absalón constituyó a Amasa, sobre el ejército en lugar de Joab, el cual Amasa fue hijo de un varón de Israel llamado Itra, el cual se había unido a Abigail hija de Nahas, hermana de Sarvia, madre de Joab.

and Amasa hath Absalom set instead of Joab over the host, and Amasa a man's son whose name is Ithra the Israelite who hath gone in unto Abigail, daughter of Nahash, sister of Zeruiah, mother of Joab;

26 Y asentó campamento Israel con Absalón en tierra de Galaad.

and Israel encampeth with Absalom the land of Gilead.

27 Y cuando David llegó a Mahanaim, Sobi hijo de Nahas de Rabá de los hijos de Amón, y Maquir hijo de Amiel de Lodebar, y Barzilai galaadita de Rogelim,

And it cometh to pass at the coming in of David to Mahanaim, that Shobi, son of Nahash, from Rabbah of the Bene-Ammon, and Machir son of Ammiel, from Lo-Debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite, from Rogelim,

28 t rajeron a David y al pueblo que estaba con él, camas, tazas, vasijas de barro, trigo, cebada, harina, y trigo tostado, habas, lentejas, y garbanzos tostados,

couch, and basin, and earthen vessel, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and roasted, and beans, and lentiles, and roasted,

29 m iel, manteca, ovejas, y quesos de vacas, para que comieran; porque dijeron entre si: Aquel pueblo está hambriento, y cansado, y tendrá sed en el desierto.

and honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of kine, have brought nigh for David, and for the people who with him to eat, for they said, `Thy people hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.'
