1 W hy does He not set seasons for judgment? Why do those who know Him see not His days ?

PUESTO que no son ocultos los tiempos al Todopoderoso, ¿Por qué los que le conocen no ven sus días?

2 S ome remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks and pasture them.

Traspasan los términos, Roban los ganados, y apaciéntanlos.

3 T hey drive away the donkey of the fatherless; they take the widow’s ox for a pledge.

Llévanse el asno de los huérfanos; Prenden el buey de la viuda.

4 T hey crowd the poor and needy off the road; the poor and meek of the earth all hide themselves.

Hacen apartar del camino á los menesterosos: Y todos los pobres de la tierra se esconden.

5 B ehold, as wild asses in the desert, go forth to their work, seeking diligently for prey and food; the wilderness yields them bread for their children.

He aquí, como asnos monteses en el desierto, Salen á su obra madrugando para robar; El desierto es mantenimiento de sus hijos.

6 T hey reap each one his fodder in a field, and they glean the vintage of the wicked man.

En el campo siegan su pasto, Y los impíos vendimian la viña ajena.

7 T hey lie all night naked, without clothing, and have no covering in the cold.

Al desnudo hacen dormir sin ropa, Y que en el frío no tenga cobertura.

8 T hey are wet with the showers of the mountains and cling to the rock for want of shelter.

Con las avenidas de los montes se mojan, Y abrazan las peñas sin tener abrigo.

9 p luck the fatherless infants from the breast, and take the poor for a pledge,

Quitan el pecho á los huérfanos, Y de sobre el pobre toman la prenda.

10 S o that the needy go about naked for lack of clothing, and though hungry, they must carry the sheaves.

Al desnudo hacen andar sin vestido, Y á los hambrientos quitan los hacecillos.

11 A mong the olive rows make oil; they tread the presses, but suffer thirst.

De dentro de sus paredes exprimen el aceite, Pisan los lagares, y mueren de sed.

12 F rom out of the populous city men groan, and the very life of the wounded cries for help; yet God regards not the wrong done them.

De la ciudad gimen los hombres, Y claman las almas de los heridos de muerte: Mas Dios no puso estorbo.

13 T hese wrongdoers are of those who rebel against the light; they know not its ways nor stay in its paths.

Ellos son los que, rebeldes á la luz, Nunca conocieron sus caminos, Ni estuvieron en sus veredas.

14 T he murderer rises with the light; he kills the poor and the needy, and in the night he becomes as a thief.

A la luz se levanta el matador, mata al pobre y al necesitado, Y de noche es como ladrón.

15 T he eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me, and he puts a disguise upon his face.

El ojo del adúltero está aguardando la noche, Diciendo: No me verá nadie: Y esconde su rostro.

16 I n the dark, they dig through houses; by day they shut themselves up; they do not know the sunlight.

En las tinieblas minan las casas, Que de día para sí señalaron; No conocen la luz.

17 F or midnight is morning to all of them; for they are familiar with the terrors of deep darkness.

Porque la mañana es á todos ellos como sombra de muerte; Si son conocidos, terrores de sombra de muerte los toman.

18 S wiftly such men pass away on the face of the waters; their portion is cursed in the earth; turns into their vineyards.

Son instables más que la superficie de las aguas; Su porción es maldita en la tierra; No andarán por el camino de las viñas.

19 D rought and heat consume the snow waters; so does Sheol (the place of the dead) those who have sinned.

La sequía y el calor arrebatan las aguas de la nieve; Y el sepulcro á los pecadores.

20 T he womb shall forget him, the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered, and unrighteousness shall be broken like a tree.

Olvidaráse de ellos el seno materno; de ellos sentirán los gusanos dulzura; Nunca más habrá de ellos memoria, Y como un árbol serán los impíos quebrantados.

21 p reys upon the barren, childless woman and does no good to the widow.

A la mujer estéril que no paría, afligió; Y á la viuda nunca hizo bien.

22 Y et prolongs the life of the mighty by His power; they rise up when they had despaired of life.

Mas á los fuertes adelantó con su poder: Levantóse, y no se da por segura la vida.

23 G od gives them security, and they rest on it; and His eyes are upon their ways.

Le dieron á crédito, y se afirmó: Sus ojos están sobre los caminos de ellos.

24 T hey are exalted for a little while, and then are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all others are and are cut off as the tops of the ears of grain.

Fueron ensalzados por un poco, mas desaparecen, Y son abatidos como cada cual: serán encerrados, Y cortados como cabezas de espigas.

25 A nd if this is not so, who will prove me a liar and make my speech worthless?

Y si no, ¿quién me desmentirá ahora, O reducirá á nada mis palabras?
