1 A nd Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.

Павел посмотрел на членов Высшего Совета и сказал: – Братья, вплоть до сегодняшнего дня я жил с чистой совестью перед Богом.

2 A nd the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.

Тут первосвященник Анания приказал стоявшим рядом с Павлом ударить его по губам.

3 T hen said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?

Павел тогда сказал: – Бог ударит тебя, стена ты подбеленная! Ты сидишь здесь, чтобы судить меня по Закону, а сам нарушаешь Закон, приказывая бить меня!

4 A nd they that stood by said, Revilest thou God’s high priest?

Те, кто стоял рядом с Павлом, сказали ему: – Как ты смеешь оскорблять Божьего первосвященника?

5 T hen said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

Павел ответил: – Братья, я не знал, что он первосвященник, ведь Писание говорит: «Не говори плохо о вожде твоего народа».

6 B ut when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

Павел знал, что одни из них были саддукеями, а другие – фарисеями, поэтому он громко сказал членам Высшего Совета: – Братья, я фарисей, сын фарисея, и меня судят за надежду на воскресение мертвых.

7 A nd when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.

Когда он это сказал, между фарисеями и саддукеями разгорелся спор, и собрание разделилось,

8 F or the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.

потому что саддукеи говорят, что нет ни воскресения, ни ангелов, ни духов. Фарисеи же во все это верят.

9 A nd there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees’ part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

Поднялся громкий крик, некоторые учители Закона из фарисеев встали и решительно заявили: – Мы не находим в этом человеке ничего плохого. Что, если ему говорил дух или ангел?

10 A nd when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.

Спор разгорелся настолько, что командир римского полка, опасаясь, как бы Павла не разорвали на части, приказал солдатам забрать его от них силой и увести в казарму.

11 A nd the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

Следующей ночью перед Павлом предстал Господь и сказал: – Не бойся! Как ты свидетельствовал обо Мне в Иерусалиме, так будешь свидетельствовать и в Риме. Заговор против Павла

12 A nd when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

Наутро некоторые иудеи собрались и поклялись ничего не есть и не пить до тех пор, пока не убьют Павла.

13 A nd they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.

В заговоре участвовало более сорока человек.

14 A nd they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.

Они пошли к первосвященникам и старейшинам и сказали: – Мы поклялись ничего не есть, пока не убьем Павла.

15 N ow therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.

Итак, вы и Высший Совет попросите командира римского полка привести его к вам якобы для того, чтобы поближе познакомиться с его делом. А мы будем наготове и убьем его еще до того, как он дойдет до этого места.

16 A nd when Paul’s sister’s son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.

Об этом заговоре узнал племянник Павла, сын его сестры. Он пошел в казарму и рассказал об этом Павлу.

17 T hen Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.

Тогда Павел подозвал одного из сотников и сказал ему: – Отведите этого юношу к командиру, у него есть что-то важное сказать ему.

18 S o he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee.

Сотник отвел юношу к командиру и доложил: – Заключенный Павел позвал меня и попросил привести этого юношу к тебе. У него есть что-то важное сказать тебе.

19 T hen the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?

Командир взял юношу за руку, отвел его в сторону и спросил: – Что ты хочешь мне сообщить?

20 A nd he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.

Юноша сказал: – Иудеи решили просить тебя привести завтра Павла в Высший Совет якобы для того, чтобы подробнее узнать о нем.

21 B ut do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.

Но ты этому не верь, потому что в засаде его поджидают более сорока человек. Они поклялись не есть и не пить, пока не убьют его. Они стоят наготове и только ждут твоего согласия исполнить их просьбу.

22 S o the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.

Командир полка отпустил юношу, дав ему наказ: – Никому не говори о том, что ты только что мне рассказал. Павел отправлен в Кесарию

23 A nd he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Cæsarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;

Затем командир вызвал двух сотников и приказал им: – Подготовьте двести солдат, семьдесят всадников и двести копьеносцев для выхода в Кесарию через три часа после того, как стемнеет.

24 a nd provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.

Приготовьте Павлу коня и смотрите, чтобы Павел был в безопасности доставлен к наместнику Феликсу.

25 A nd he wrote a letter after this manner:

И он написал такое письмо:

26 C laudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting.

«От Клавдия Лисия достопочтенному Феликсу, наместнику Рима. Приветствую тебя.

27 T his man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.

Этот человек был схвачен иудеями, и они собирались уже убить его, но я подоспел с воинами и спас его, так как узнал, что он римский гражданин.

28 A nd when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:

Желая узнать, в чем они его обвиняют, я привел его в их Высший Совет.

29 w hom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.

Я понял, что обвинение связано со спорными вопросами их Закона и что он не виновен ни в чем, заслуживающем смерти или тюремного заключения.

30 A nd when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.

Мне также стало известно, что против него составлен заговор, и я сразу же отослал его к тебе, велев обвинителям представить тебе обвинения против него».

31 T hen the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.

Солдаты, выполняя приказ, взяли Павла и повели его ночью в Антипатриду.

32 O n the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:

На следующий день они отправили его с всадниками дальше, а сами возвратились в казарму.

33 w ho, when they came to Cæsarea, and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.

Когда всадники прибыли в Кесарию, они отдали наместнику письмо и передали ему Павла.

34 A nd when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia;

Наместник прочитал письмо и спросил Павла, из какой он провинции. Узнав, что Павел из Киликии,

35 I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod’s judgment hall.

он сказал: – Я выслушаю тебя, когда сюда придут твои обвинители, – и приказал содержать Павла под стражей во дворце Ирода.
