1 T he burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

Пророчество о Дамаске. – Вот, Дамаск больше не будет городом, он превратится в груду развалин.

2 T he cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

Города Ароера будут покинуты, брошены отарам, которые там улягутся, и никто не вспугнет их.

3 T he fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the Lord of hosts.

Исчезнет в Ефреме укрепленный город, и в Дамаске – царская власть; с уцелевшими из Арама будет то же, что и со славой израильтян, – возвещает Господь Сил. –

4 A nd in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.

В тот день слава Иакова увянет, исхудает тучное тело его.

5 A nd it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim.

Это будет похоже на жатву пшеницы, когда рука жнеца срезает колосья, а потом подбирают колоски с плодородных полей в долине Рефаим.

6 Y et gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the Lord God of Israel.

Останется лишь несколько людей, как остатки плодов на оливковом дереве, когда его обтрясают во время сбора, оставляя две-три оливки на самой верхушке, четыре-пять – на ветвях плодоносных, возвещает Господь, Бог Израилев.

7 A t that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.

В тот день люди посмотрят на своего Создателя, устремят взгляд на Святого Израилева.

8 A nd he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.

Они больше не будут смотреть на жертвенники, работу своих рук, и не станут глядеть на столбы Ашеры и на жертвенники для возжигания благовоний, которые сделали их пальцы.

9 I n that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.

В тот день их укрепленные города будут покинуты перед лицом израильтян и зарастут дикими лесами и кустарником. И будет запустение.

10 B ecause thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:

Ты забыл Бога твоего спасения, не вспомнил о скале, о своей крепости. Поэтому пусть развел ты роскошные сады, насадил черенки от чужой лозы,

11 i n the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

пусть ты смог заставить их расти в день, когда ты развел их, пусть смог заставить их цвести, в утро, когда насадил их, но не будет тебе урожая в день недуга и неисцелимой боли.

12 W oe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!

О, шум армий множества народов, как шум шумящего моря! О, рев народов, как рев сильных ревущих вод!

13 T he nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

Пусть ревут народы ревом могучих вод – Он обличит их, и они убегут далеко, гонимые, как мякина на холмах от ветра, как крутящаяся пыль от урагана.

14 A nd behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.

Вечером внезапный ужас! До утра их уже не станет. Вот удел тех, кто нас обирает, участь тех, кто нас грабит.
