1 N ow the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and were gathered together at Shochoh, which belongeth to Judah, and pitched between Shochoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim.

Филистимляне собрали войска для войны и пришли в поселение Сохо, что в Иудее. Они разбили лагерь в Эфес-Даммиме, между Сохо и Азекой.

2 A nd Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and pitched by the valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.

Саул и израильтяне собрались, расположились лагерем в долине Эла и выстроились против филистимлян.

3 A nd the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.

Филистимляне стояли на одном холме, а израильтяне на другом; между ними была долина.

4 A nd there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.

Из филистимского лагеря вышел борец по имени Голиаф из Гата. Ростом он был шесть локтей и пядь.

5 A nd he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.

На голове у него был бронзовый шлем, а сам он был одет в бронзовую кольчугу весом в пять тысяч шекелей.

6 A nd he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a target of brass between his shoulders.

На ногах у него были бронзовые наколенники, а за спиной висел бронзовый дротик.

7 A nd the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him.

Древко его копья было большое, как ткацкий навой, а железный наконечник весил шестьсот шекелей. Перед ним шел его щитоносец.

8 A nd he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.

Голиаф остановился и закричал выстроившимся израильтянам: − Зачем вы вышли и построились на битву? Разве я не филистимлянин, а вы – не рабы Саула? Выберите человека, пусть он спустится ко мне.

9 I f he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.

Если он сможет сразиться со мной и убить меня, мы станем вашими рабами, но если я одержу победу и убью его, вы станете нашими рабами и будете нам служить.

10 A nd the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.

Филистимлянин сказал: − Сегодня я бросаю израильтянам вызов! Выберите человека, чтобы нам сразиться друг с другом.

11 W hen Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.

Услышав слова филистимлянина, Саул и все израильтяне пришли в смятение и сильно испугались. Давид приходит в военный лагерь

12 N ow David was the son of that Ephrathite of Beth-lehem-judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man went among men for an old man in the days of Saul.

Давид был сыном ефрафянина по имени Иессей из Вифлеема, что в Иудее. У Иессея было восемь сыновей, и во времена Саула он достиг преклонных лет и был старший между мужчинами.

13 A nd the three eldest sons of Jesse went and followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.

Три старших сына Иессея пошли за Саулом на войну: первенца звали Елиав, второго сына – Авинадав, а третьего – Шамма.

14 A nd David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul.

Давид был самым младшим. Три старших сына пошли за Саулом,

15 B ut David went and returned from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Beth-lehem.

а Давид ходил к Саулу и возвращался в Вифлеем, чтобы пасти овец своего отца.

16 A nd the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.

Сорок дней филистимлянин выходил каждое утро и каждый вечер и бросал свой вызов.

17 A nd Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren;

Иессей сказал своему сыну Давиду: − Возьми ефу поджаренного зерна и десять лепешек для братьев и поспеши к ним в лагерь.

18 a nd carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge.

Возьми еще десять голов сыра для тысяченачальника. Проведай братьев и принеси от них какую-нибудь весточку.

19 N ow Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.

Они вместе с Саулом и всеми его людьми в долине Эла воюют с филистимлянами.

20 A nd David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle.

Рано утром Давид оставил стадо другому пастуху, взял ношу и отправился в путь, как велел Иессей. Он добрался до лагеря, когда войско с боевым кличем выходило на свои места.

21 F or Israel and the Philistines had put the battle in array, army against army.

Израиль и филистимляне построились в ряды друг напротив друга.

22 A nd David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren.

Давид оставил свою ношу обозному сторожу и побежал в ряды, поприветствовать братьев.

23 A nd as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them.

Когда он говорил с ними, Голиаф, филистимский воин, выступил из рядов и прокричал свой обычный вызов на бой, и Давид услышал его.

24 A nd all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.

Увидев этого человека, израильтяне убегали от него в великом страхе.

25 A nd the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in Israel.

Они говорили: − Видите, как выходит этот человек? Он выходит, чтобы бросить Израилю вызов. Царь одарит большим богатством того, кто убьет его. Еще он даст ему в жены свою дочь и освободит от налогов семью его отца в Израиле.

26 A nd David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?

Давид спросил у людей, которые стояли рядом с ним: − Что будет тому, кто убьет этого филистимлянина и снимет позор с Израиля? Кто он такой, этот необрезанный филистимлянин, чтобы бросать вызов войскам живого Бога?

27 A nd the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.

Они повторили ему то, что говорили раньше, и сказали: − Вот что будет тому, кто убьет его.

28 A nd Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.

Когда Елиав, старший брат Давида, услышал, как тот говорит с людьми, он разгневался на него и спросил: − Зачем ты пришел сюда? И на кого ты оставил тех немногих овец в пустыне? Я знаю, как ты тщеславен и как порочно твое сердце; ты пришел только для того, чтобы посмотреть на битву.

29 A nd David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?

− Что же я сделал? − сказал Давид. − Мне что, даже поговорить нельзя?

30 A nd he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.

Он отвернулся от него к кому-то другому и заговорил о том же самом, и народ отвечал ему, как и прежде.

31 A nd when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him.

Когда слова Давида передали Саулу, он послал за ним.

32 A nd David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.

Давид сказал Саулу: − Не падайте духом из-за этого филистимлянина; твой слуга пойдет и сразится с ним.

33 A nd Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.

Саул ответил: − Ты не можешь выйти против этого филистимлянина и сразиться с ним; ты всего лишь мальчик, а он – воин с юных лет.

34 A nd David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:

Но Давид сказал Саулу: − Твой слуга пас отцовских овец, и когда, бывало, лев или медведь приходил и уносил из отары овцу,

35 a nd I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.

я гнался за ним, разил его и спасал овцу из его пасти. Когда же он бросался на меня, я хватал его за шерсть, разил и убивал.

36 T hy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.

Твой слуга убивал и льва, и медведя. Этот необрезанный филистимлянин уподобится им, потому что он бросил вызов войскам живого Бога.

37 D avid said moreover, The Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the Lord be with thee.

Господь, Который избавлял меня от лап льва и медведя, избавит меня от руки и этого филистимлянина. Саул сказал Давиду: − Иди, и да будет с тобой Господь!

38 A nd Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.

Саул одел Давида в свои собственные доспехи. Он надел на него кольчугу и возложил ему на голову бронзовый шлем.

39 A nd David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

Давид опоясался мечом поверх доспехов и попробовал ходить в них, так как не привык к этому. − Я не могу ходить в них, − сказал он Саулу, − потому что я к ним не привык. И он снял их.

40 A nd he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.

Взяв в руку посох, он выбрал себе в ручье пять гладких камней, положил их в свою пастушью сумку и с пращей в руке приблизился к филистимлянину. Давид убивает Голиафа

41 A nd the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.

Тем временем и филистимлянин со своим щитоносцем приближался к Давиду.

42 A nd when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.

Когда филистимлянин увидел Давида, румяного и красивого, он с презрением посмотрел на него, потому что тот был всего лишь юноша.

43 A nd the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

Он сказал Давиду: − Разве я − собака, что ты идешь на меня с палками? И филистимлянин проклял Давида своими богами.

44 A nd the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.

− Иди сюда, − сказал он, − и я отдам твою плоть небесным птицам и земным зверям!

45 T hen said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.

Давид сказал филистимлянину: − Ты идешь против меня с мечом, копьем и дротиком, но я иду против тебя во Имя Господа Сил, Бога армий Израиля, которым ты бросил вызов.

46 T his day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

Сегодня Господь отдаст тебя мне, и я сражу тебя и отсеку тебе голову. Сегодня я отдам трупы филистимского войска небесным птицам и земным зверям, и весь мир узнает, что есть Бог в Израиле!

47 A nd all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hands.

Все, кто собрался здесь, узнают, что Господь спасает не мечом и не копьем, ведь эта битва − битва Господа, и Он отдаст всех вас в наши руки.

48 A nd it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

Когда филистимлянин начал приближаться, чтобы напасть на него, Давид быстро побежал к строю воинов ему навстречу.

49 A nd David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.

Опустив руку в сумку и вынув камень, он метнул его из пращи и поразил филистимлянина в лоб. Камень вонзился ему в лоб, и он упал лицом на землю.

50 S o David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.

Так Давид одержал победу над филистимлянином с помощью пращи и камня. Без меча в руке он сразил филистимлянина и убил его.

51 T herefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.

Давид подбежал и встал над ним. Он взял меч филистимлянина и вынул его из ножен. Убив его, он отсек ему голову мечом. Когда филистимляне увидели, что их герой мертв, они развернулись и побежали.

52 A nd the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron.

Воины Израиля и Иудеи рванулись вперед и преследовали филистимлян до входа в Гат и до ворот Экрона. Тела убитых филистимлян были разбросаны вдоль шаараимской дороги, которая вела в Гат и Экрон.

53 A nd the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents.

Вернувшись из погони за филистимлянами, израильтяне разграбили их лагерь.

54 A nd David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.

Давид взял голову филистимлянина и принес ее в Иерусалим, а оружие филистимлянина он положил у себя в шатре. Представление Давида Саулу

55 A nd when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.

Когда Саул смотрел на Давида, идущего навстречу филистимлянину, он спросил Авнера, начальника войска: − Авнер, чей сын этот юноша? Авнер ответил: − Верно, как и то, что ты жив, царь, − я не знаю.

56 A nd the king said, Enquire thou whose son the stripling is.

Царь сказал: − Узнай, чей сын этот юноша.

57 A nd as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.

Как только Давид вернулся, убив филистимлянина, Авнер позвал его и привел к Саулу, а Давид все еще держал в руках голову филистимлянина.

58 A nd Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, thou young man? And David answered, I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Beth-lehemite.

− Чей ты сын, юноша? − спросил его Саул. Давид ответил: − Я сын твоего слуги Иессея из Вифлеема.
