1 A nd Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the Lord, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

Соломон породнился с фараоном, царем Египта, женившись на его дочери. Он поселил ее в Городе Давида, пока не закончил строить свой дворец, дом Господа и стену вокруг Иерусалима.

2 O nly the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the Lord, until those days.

А народ по-прежнему приносил жертвы в святилищах на возвышенностях, потому что дом для Имени Господа все еще не был построен.

3 A nd Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.

Соломон любил Господа, следуя наказам своего отца Давида, но и он приносил жертвы и сжигал кадильные благовония в святилищах на возвышенностях.

4 A nd the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.

Царь отправился в Гаваон, чтобы принести жертвы, потому что там было самое главное из святилищ на возвышенностях, и вознес на том жертвеннике тысячу всесожжений.

5 I n Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.

В Гаваоне Господь явился Соломону во сне ночью и сказал: – Проси, чего хочешь, чтобы Я дал тебе.

6 A nd Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

Соломон ответил: – Ты явил Твоему слуге, моему отцу Давиду, великую милость, так как он был верен Тебе, праведен и прям сердцем. Ты сохранил эту великую милость и даровал ему сына, чтобы тот сегодня сел на его престол.

7 A nd now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.

И теперь, Господи, Боже мой, Ты сделал Твоего слугу царем вместо моего отца Давида. Но я совсем молод и не знаю, как исполнять свой долг.

8 A nd thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

Твой слуга – среди Твоего народа, который Ты избрал, великого народа, слишком многочисленного, чтобы его пересчитать или исчислить.

9 G ive therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?

Дай Твоему слуге разумное сердце, чтобы править Твоим народом и различать между добром и злом. Ведь кто способен править Твоим многочисленным народом?

10 A nd the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.

Владыке было угодно, чтобы Соломон просил об этом.

11 A nd God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;

Бог сказал ему: – Так как ты просил об этом и не просил себе ни долгой жизни, ни богатства, ни смерти своим врагам, но лишь мудрости, чтобы разумно судить,

12 b ehold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

Я исполню то, о чем ты просил. Я даю тебе мудрое и разумное сердце, и как до тебя не было подобного тебе, так и после тебя никто с тобой не сравнится.

13 A nd I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.

Более того, Я даю тебе и то, о чем ты не просил, – и богатство, и славу – так, что при твоей жизни среди царей тебе не будет равного.

14 A nd if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.

И если ты будешь следовать Моими путями и слушаться Моих установлений и повелений, как делал твой отец Давид, Я дам тебе долгую жизнь.

15 A nd Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.

Тут Соломон проснулся и понял, что это был сон. Он пришел в Иерусалим, встал перед ковчегом завета Владыки, и принес всесожжения и жертвы примирения. После этого он устроил для всего двора пир. Мудрое разрешение спора

16 T hen came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.

Однажды к царю пришли две женщины-блудницы и встали перед ним.

17 A nd the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.

Одна из них сказала: – О мой господин! Мы с этой женщиной живем в одном доме, и когда она была в доме, я родила.

18 A nd it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.

А на третий день после этого родила и она. Мы были вместе; никого с нами в доме не было, только мы вдвоем.

19 A nd this woman’s child died in the night; because she overlaid it.

Ночью сын этой женщины умер, потому что она случайно задавила его во сне.

20 A nd she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.

Среди ночи она поднялась и взяла моего сына, пока твоя служанка спала. Она положила его к своей груди, а своего мертвого сына положила к моей груди.

21 A nd when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.

Утром я встала, чтобы покормить своего сына, а он мертвый, но когда утром я рассмотрела его, мне стало ясно, что это не мой сын, которого я родила.

22 A nd the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.

Другая женщина сказала: – Нет! Тот, что живой, – это мой сын; твой – тот, что мертвый. Но первая настаивала: – Нет! Тот, что мертвый, – твой, а живой – мой! И так они препирались перед царем.

23 T hen said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living.

Царь сказал: – Одна говорит: «Мой сын жив, а твой мертв», – а другая говорит: «Нет! Твой сын мертв, а мой жив».

24 A nd the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.

Затем царь сказал: – Принесите мне меч. И царю принесли меч.

25 A nd the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.

Тогда он повелел: – Разрубите живого ребенка надвое и дайте половину одной и половину другой.

26 T hen spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.

У той женщины, чей сын был жив, вздрогнуло сердце от жалости к своему сыну, и она сказала царю: – О мой господин! Отдайте ей ребенка живым! Не убивайте его! Но другая сказала: – Ни я, ни ты его не получим. Разрубите его!

27 T hen the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.

Тогда царь постановил: – Отдайте живого ребенка первой женщине. Не убивайте его; она – его мать.

28 A nd all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.

Когда весь Израиль услышал о приговоре, который вынес царь, они стали уважать его, потому что увидели, что в нем – мудрость от Бога, чтобы творить суд.
