1 S ome time later, there was a religious gathering of the Jews. Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

Algum tempo depois, Jesus subiu a Jerusalém para uma festa dos judeus.

2 I n Jerusalem there is a pool with five porches called Bethesda near the sheep gate.

Há em Jerusalém, perto da porta das Ovelhas, um tanque que, em aramaico, é chamado Betesda, tendo cinco entradas em volta.

3 I nside these porches lay many sick people. Some were blind. Some could not walk. Some could not move their bodies.

Ali costumava ficar grande número de pessoas doentes e inválidas: cegos, mancos e paralíticos. Eles esperavam um movimento nas águas.

4 ( An angel of the Lord came at certain times and made the water move. All of them were waiting for it to move. Whoever got in the water first after it was moving was healed of whatever sickness he had.)

De vez em quando descia um anjo do Senhor e agitava as águas. O primeiro que entrasse no tanque, depois de agitadas as águas, era curado de qualquer doença que tivesse.

5 A man was there who had been sick for thirty-eight years.

Um dos que estavam ali era paralítico fazia trinta e oito anos.

6 J esus saw him lying there and knew the man had been sick a long time. Jesus said to him, “Would you like to be healed?”

Quando o viu deitado e soube que ele vivia naquele estado durante tanto tempo, Jesus lhe perguntou: “Você quer ser curado?”

7 T he sick man said, “Sir, I have no one to put me in the pool when the water is moving. While I am coming, another one gets in first.”

Disse o paralítico: “Senhor, não tenho ninguém que me ajude a entrar no tanque quando a água é agitada. Enquanto estou tentando entrar, outro chega antes de mim”.

8 J esus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your bed and walk.”

Então Jesus lhe disse: “Levante-se! Pegue a sua maca e ande”.

9 A t once the man was healed and picked up his bed and walked. This happened on the Day of Rest.

Imediatamente o homem ficou curado, pegou a maca e começou a andar. Isso aconteceu num sábado,

10 T he Jews said to the man who had been healed, “This is the Day of Rest. It is against the Law for you to carry your bed.”

e, por essa razão, os judeus disseram ao homem que havia sido curado: “Hoje é sábado, não lhe é permitido carregar a maca”.

11 H e said to them, “The Man Who healed me said to me, ‘Pick up your bed and walk.’

Mas ele respondeu: “O homem que me curou me disse: ‘Pegue a sua maca e ande’”.

12 T hen the Jews asked him, “What man said to you, ‘Pick up your bed and walk’ ?”

Então lhe perguntaram: “Quem é esse homem que lhe mandou pegar a maca e andar?”

13 T he man who had been healed did not know Who He was. Jesus had gone away while many people were there.

O homem que fora curado não tinha idéia de quem era ele, pois Jesus havia desaparecido no meio da multidão.

14 L ater Jesus found the man who had been healed in the house of God. He said to him, “Listen! You have been healed. Stop sinning or something worse will come to you.”

Mais tarde Jesus o encontrou no templo e lhe disse: “Olhe, você está curado. Não volte a pecar, para que algo pior não lhe aconteça”.

15 T he man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus Who had healed him. The Jews Want to Kill Jesus

O homem foi contar aos judeus que fora Jesus quem o tinha curado. Vida por meio do Filho

16 B ecause Jesus did these things on the Day of Rest, the Jews made it very hard for Him.

Então os judeus passaram a perseguir Jesus, porque ele estava fazendo essas coisas no sábado.

17 J esus said to them, “My Father is still working all the time so I am working also.”

Disse-lhes Jesus: “Meu Pai continua trabalhando até hoje, e eu também estou trabalhando”.

18 T he Jews tried all the more to kill Him, not only because He had worked on the Day of Rest, but because He had also called God His Own Father. This made Him the same as God. Jesus Tells How He Works

Por essa razão, os judeus mais ainda queriam matá-lo, pois não somente estava violando o sábado, mas também estava dizendo que Deus era seu próprio Pai, igualando-se a Deus.

19 T hen Jesus said to them, “For sure, I tell you, the Son can do nothing by Himself. He does what He sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son does also.

Jesus lhes deu esta resposta: “Eu lhes digo verdadeiramente que o Filho não pode fazer nada de si mesmo; só pode fazer o que vê o Pai fazer, porque o que o Pai faz o Filho também faz.

20 T he Father loves the Son and shows the Son everything He does. The Father will show Him greater works than these. They will surprise you.

Pois o Pai ama ao Filho e lhe mostra tudo o que faz. Sim, para admiração de vocês, ele lhe mostrará obras ainda maiores do que estas.

21 T he Father raises up the dead and makes them live. The Son also gives life to anyone He chooses.

Pois, da mesma forma que o Pai ressuscita os mortos e lhes dá vida, o Filho também dá vida a quem ele quer.

22 T he Father does not say who is guilty. He gives this to the Son to do.

Além disso, o Pai a ninguém julga, mas confiou todo julgamento ao Filho,

23 H e does this so that all people will honor the Son as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father Who sent Him.

para que todos honrem o Filho como honram o Pai. Aquele que não honra o Filho, também não honra o Pai que o enviou.

24 “ For sure, I tell you, anyone who hears My Word and puts his trust in Him Who sent Me has life that lasts forever. He will not be guilty. He has already passed from death into life. The Good People and the Sinful People Are Raised from the Dead

“Eu lhes asseguro: Quem ouve a minha palavra e crê naquele que me enviou, tem a vida eterna e não será condenado, mas já passou da morte para a vida.

25 “ For sure, I tell you, the time is coming. Yes, the time is here when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God. Those who hear will live.

Eu lhes afirmo que está chegando a hora, e já chegou, em que os mortos ouvirão a voz do Filho de Deus, e aqueles que a ouvirem, viverão.

26 T he Father has life in Himself. He has given power to the Son to have life in Himself.

Pois, da mesma forma como o Pai tem vida em si mesmo, ele concedeu ao Filho ter vida em si mesmo.

27 G od has given Him the right and the power to say if people are guilty, because He is the Son of Man.

E deu-lhe autoridade para julgar, porque é o Filho do homem.

28 D o not be surprised at this. The time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear His voice.

“Não fiquem admirados com isto, pois está chegando a hora em que todos os que estiverem nos túmulos ouvirão a sua voz

29 T hey will come out. Those who have done good will be raised again and will have new life. Those who have been sinful will be raised again and will be told they are guilty and will be punished. Jesus Tells of John and of Himself

e sairão; os que fizeram o bem ressuscitarão para a vida, e os que fizeram o mal ressuscitarão para serem condenados.

30 “ I can do nothing by Myself. I say who is guilty only as My Father tells Me. That way, what I say is right, because I am not trying to do what I want to do. I am doing what the Father, Who sent Me, wants Me to do.

Por mim mesmo, nada posso fazer; eu julgo apenas conforme ouço, e o meu julgamento é justo, pois não procuro agradar a mim mesmo, mas àquele que me enviou. Testemunhos acerca de Jesus

31 I f I tell about Myself, My words are worth nothing.

“Se testifico acerca de mim mesmo, o meu testemunho não é válido.

32 T here is another One Who tells about Me. I know the words He says about Me are true.

Há outro que testemunha em meu favor, e sei que o seu testemunho a meu respeito é válido.

33 “ You sent to John the Baptist and he told you the truth.

“Vocês enviaram representantes a João, e ele testemunhou da verdade.

34 I do not need words from men to say I am right. I say this that you might be saved from the punishment of sin.

Não que eu busque testemunho humano, mas menciono isso para que vocês sejam salvos.

35 J ohn the Baptist was a burning and shining light. You were willing for awhile to be glad in his light.

João era uma candeia que queimava e irradiava luz, e durante certo tempo vocês quiseram alegrar-se com a sua luz.

36 I have something greater than John which tells of Me. I am doing works the Father has given Me to do and they are proving that the Father has sent Me.

“Eu tenho um testemunho maior que o de João; a própria obra que o Pai me deu para concluir, e que estou realizando, testemunha que o Pai me enviou.

37 T he Father has told of Me and has sent Me. You have never heard His voice. You have never seen Him.

E o Pai que me enviou, ele mesmo testemunhou a meu respeito. Vocês nunca ouviram a sua voz, nem viram a sua forma,

38 Y ou do not have His Word living in your hearts because you do not put your trust in the One He sent.

nem a sua palavra habita em vocês, pois não crêem naquele que ele enviou.

39 “ You do read the Holy Writings. You think you have life that lasts forever just because you read them. They do tell of Me.

Vocês estudam cuidadosamente as Escrituras, porque pensam que nelas vocês têm a vida eterna. E são as Escrituras que testemunham a meu respeito;

40 B ut you do not want to come to Me so you might have life.

contudo, vocês não querem vir a mim para terem vida.

41 I do not take any honor from men.

“Eu não aceito glória dos homens,

42 I know you and you do not have the love of God in your hearts.

mas conheço vocês. Sei que vocês não têm o amor de Deus.

43 I have come in the name of My Father. You do not receive Me. If another person comes in his own name, you will receive him.

Eu vim em nome de meu Pai, e vocês não me aceitaram; mas, se outro vier em seu próprio nome, vocês o aceitarão.

44 H ow can you believe when you are always wanting honor from each other? And yet you do not look for the honor that comes from the only God.

Como vocês podem crer, se aceitam glória uns dos outros, mas não procuram a glória que vem do Deus único?

45 “ Do not think that I will tell the Father you are guilty. The one who says you are guilty is Moses. You trust him.

“Contudo, não pensem que eu os acusarei perante o Pai. Quem os acusa é Moisés, em quem estão as suas esperanças.

46 I f you had believed Moses, you would believe Me. For Moses wrote about Me.

Se vocês cressem em Moisés, creriam em mim, pois ele escreveu a meu respeito.

47 I f you do not believe what he wrote, how will you believe My Words?”

Visto, porém, que não crêem no que ele escreveu, como crerão no que eu digo?”
