1 I f only my head were a well of water, and my eyes a well of tears, that I might cry day and night for my people who have been killed!

Ah, se a minha cabeça fosse uma fonte de água e os meus olhos um manancial de lágrimas! Eu choraria noite e dia pelos mortos do meu povo.

2 I f only I had a place in the desert for travelers to stay, that I might leave my people, and go away from them! For none of them are faithful. They are a gathering of men who cannot be trusted.

Ah, se houvesse um alojamento para mim no deserto, para que eu pudesse deixar o meu povo e afastar-me dele. São todos adúlteros, um bando de traidores!

3 “ They use their tongue like their bow. Lies, and not truth, rule the land. For they go from sin to sin, and they do not know Me,” says the Lord.

“A língua deles é como um arco pronto para atirar. É a falsidade, não a verdade, que prevalece nesta terra. Eles vão de um crime a outro; eles não me reconhecem”, declara o Senhor.

4 “ Let every one watch his neighbor. Do not trust any brother. Because every brother sets traps, and every neighbor goes about hurting people with his talk.

“Cuidado com os seus amigos, não confie em seus parentes. Porque cada parente é um enganador, e cada amigo um caluniador.

5 E very one fools his neighbor, and does not tell the truth. They have taught their tongue to tell lies. They become tired doing so many sins.

Amigo engana amigo, ninguém fala a verdade. Eles treinaram a língua para mentir; e, sendo perversos, eles se cansam demais para se converterem.

6 Y ou live in the center of false ways. In their false ways they are not willing to know Me,” says the Lord.

De opressão em opressão, de engano em engano, eles se recusam a reconhecer-me”, declara o Senhor.

7 S o the Lord of All says, “See, I will make them pure and test them. For what else can I do with My people?

Portanto, assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: “Vejam, sou eu que vou refiná-los e prová-los. Que mais posso eu fazer pelo meu povo?

8 T heir tongue is an arrow that kills. It lies. A man speaks peace to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart he plans to trap him.

A língua deles é uma flecha mortal; eles falam traiçoeiramente. Cada um mostra-se cordial com o seu próximo, mas no íntimo lhe prepara uma armadilha.

9 S hould I not punish them for these things?” says the Lord. “Should I not make a nation such as this pay for its sins?

Deixarei eu de castigá-los?”, pergunta o Senhor. “Não me vingarei de uma nação como essa?”

10 “ I will cry with a loud voice for the mountains. I will cry out in sorrow for the fields, because they are laid waste. No one passes through them. The sound of the cattle is not heard. The birds of the sky and the wild animals have run away. They are gone.

Chorarei, prantearei e me lamentarei pelos montes por causa das pastagens da estepe; pois estão abandonadas e ninguém mais as percorre. Não se ouve o mugir do gado; tanto as aves como os animais fugiram.

11 I will break down Jerusalem into pieces, a place where wild dogs live. And I will lay waste the cities of Judah. No people will live there.”

“Farei de Jerusalém um amontoado de ruínas, uma habitação de chacais. Devastarei as cidades de Judá até não restar nenhum morador.”

12 W ho is the man wise enough to understand this? To whom has the mouth of the Lord spoken, that he may make it known? Why is the land destroyed and laid waste like a desert, so that no one passes through?

Quem é bastante sábio para compreender isso? Quem foi instruído pelo Senhor, que possa explicá-lo? Por que a terra está arruinada e devastada como um deserto pelo qual ninguém passa?

13 A nd the Lord said, “They have turned away from My Law that I have given them. They have not obeyed My voice and would not be led by it.

O Senhor disse: “Foi porque abandonaram a minha lei, que estabeleci diante deles; não me obedeceram nem seguiram a minha lei.

14 B ut they have followed the strongwill of their own hearts, and have gone after the false gods of Baal, as their fathers taught them.”

Em vez disso, seguiram a dureza de seus próprios corações, indo atrás dos baalins, como os seus antepassados lhes ensinaram”.

15 S o the Lord of All, the God of Israel, says, “See, I will feed these people with wormwood and put poison in their drinking water.

Por isso, assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: “Vejam! Farei este povo comer comida amarga e beber água envenenada.

16 I will spread them out among the nations whom they and their fathers have not known. And I will go after them with the sword until I have put an end to them.” Jerusalem Cries for Help

Eu os espalharei entre nações que nem eles nem os seus antepassados conheceram; e enviarei contra eles a espada até exterminá-los”.

17 T he Lord of All says, “Take thought and call for the women who are filled with sorrow, that they may come. Call for the women who cry for the dead, that they may come.

Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: “Considerem: Chamem as pranteadoras profissionais; mandem chamar as mais hábeis entre elas.

18 L et them hurry and cry in a loud voice for us, that tears may come from our eyes, and that our eyes will flow with water.

Venham elas depressa e lamentem por nós, até que os nossos olhos transbordem de lágrimas e águas corram de nossas pálpebras.

19 F or a sound of loud crying is heard from Zion: ‘How we are destroyed! We are filled with shame, for we have left the land because they have broken down our houses.’”

O som de lamento se ouve desde Sião: ‘Como estamos arruinados! Como é grande a nossa humilhação! Deixamos a nossa terra porque as nossas casas estão em ruínas’ ”.

20 N ow hear the Word of the Lord, O you women. Let your ear receive the Word of His mouth. Teach your daughters a song of sorrow. Every one teach her neighbor a song for the dead.

Ó mulheres, ouçam agora a palavra do Senhor; abram os ouvidos às palavras de sua boca. Ensinem suas filhas a lamentar-se; ensinem umas as outras a prantear.

21 F or death has come in through our windows. It has come into our beautiful houses of kings. It has cut off the children from the streets, and the young men from the open spaces of the city.

A morte subiu e penetrou pelas nossas janelas e invadiu as nossas fortalezas, eliminando das ruas as crianças e das praças, os rapazes.

22 S ay, “This is what the Lord says: ‘The dead bodies of men will fall like animal waste on the open field, and like grain after the gatherer. But no one will gather them.’”

“Diga: Assim declara o Senhor: “Cadáveres ficarão estirados como esterco em campo aberto, como o trigo deixado para trás pelo ceifeiro, sem que ninguém o ajunte.”

23 T he Lord says, “Let not a wise man speak with pride about his wisdom. Let not the strong man speak with pride about his strength. And let not a rich man speak with pride about his riches.

Assim diz o Senhor: “Não se glorie o sábio em sua sabedoria nem o forte em sua força nem o rico em sua riqueza,

24 B ut let him who speaks with pride speak about this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who shows loving-kindness and does what is fair and right and good on earth. For I find joy in these things,” says the Lord.

mas quem se gloriar, glorie-se nisto: em compreender-me e conhecer-me, pois eu sou o Senhor e ajo com lealdade, com justiça e com retidão sobre a terra, pois é dessas coisas que me agrado”, declara o Senhor.

25 “ See, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “when I will punish all who have gone through the religious act of the Jews, but have not had the sin cut from their heart.

“Vêm chegando os dias”, declara o Senhor, “em que castigarei todos os que são circuncidados apenas no corpo,

26 I will punish Egypt, Judah, Edom, the sons of Ammon, Moab, and all those who live in the desert. For none of these nations have had their flesh cut. And none of the people of Israel have had the sin cut from their heart.”

como também o Egito, Judá, Edom, Amom, Moabe e todos os que rapam a cabeça e vivem no deserto; porque todas essas nações são incircuncisas, e a comunidade de Israel tem o coração obstinado.”
