1 I f only my head were a well of water, and my eyes a well of tears, that I might cry day and night for my people who have been killed!

2 I f only I had a place in the desert for travelers to stay, that I might leave my people, and go away from them! For none of them are faithful. They are a gathering of men who cannot be trusted.

3 “ They use their tongue like their bow. Lies, and not truth, rule the land. For they go from sin to sin, and they do not know Me,” says the Lord.

Chúng nó giương lưỡi mình như cái cung, đặng phát lời dối trá ra. Chúng nó ở trong xứ là mạnh lớn, mà chẳng làm sự chơn thật; bởi chúng nó làm ác càng thêm ác, và chẳng nhìn biết ta, Đức Giê-hô-va phán vậy.

4 “ Let every one watch his neighbor. Do not trust any brother. Because every brother sets traps, and every neighbor goes about hurting people with his talk.

Ai nấy phải giữ gìn vì người lân cận mình, chớ tin cậy một người nào trong vòng anh em mình; vì mỗi người anh em sẽ lừa phỉnh anh em lắm, mỗi người lân cận đều đi dạo nói xấu.

5 E very one fools his neighbor, and does not tell the truth. They have taught their tongue to tell lies. They become tired doing so many sins.

Ai nấy gạt gẫm kẻ lân cận mình, chẳng nói sự chơn thật. Chúng nó luyện tập lưỡi mình mà nói dối, chăm chỉ làm điều ác.

6 Y ou live in the center of false ways. In their false ways they are not willing to know Me,” says the Lord.

Đức Giê-hô-va phán: Ngươi ăn ở giữa sự dối trá; ấy cũng vì cớ sự dối trá mà chúng nó chẳng khứng nhìn biết ta.

7 S o the Lord of All says, “See, I will make them pure and test them. For what else can I do with My people?

Vậy nên Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân phán như vầy: Nầy, ta sẽ làm cho tan chảy và thử chúng nó; vì nếu chẳng vậy thì xử với con gái dân ta thể nào?

8 T heir tongue is an arrow that kills. It lies. A man speaks peace to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart he plans to trap him.

Lưỡi chúng nó là tên độc, hay buông lời dối trá. Ngoài miệng thì chúc bình an cho kẻ lân cận mình, mà trong lòng thì gài bẫy.

9 S hould I not punish them for these things?” says the Lord. “Should I not make a nation such as this pay for its sins?

Đức Giê-hô-va phán: Ta há chẳng thăm phạt chúng nó về mọi điều ấy sao? Thần ta há chẳng trả thù một nước dường ấy sao?

10 “ I will cry with a loud voice for the mountains. I will cry out in sorrow for the fields, because they are laid waste. No one passes through them. The sound of the cattle is not heard. The birds of the sky and the wild animals have run away. They are gone.

Ta sẽ khóc lóc thở than về các núi, sẽ xướng bài ca sầu não về nội cỏ nơi đồng vắng, vì thảy đều bị đốt cháy, đến nỗi chẳng còn ai đi qua đó nữa. Tại đó chẳng còn nghe tiếng bầy súc vật, chim trời và loài thú đều trốn đi cả rồi.

11 I will break down Jerusalem into pieces, a place where wild dogs live. And I will lay waste the cities of Judah. No people will live there.”

Ta sẽ khiến Giê-ru-sa-lem thành đồng đổ nát, nơi ở của chó rừng; sẽ làm cho các thành của Giu-đa ra hoang vu không người ở.

12 W ho is the man wise enough to understand this? To whom has the mouth of the Lord spoken, that he may make it known? Why is the land destroyed and laid waste like a desert, so that no one passes through?

Ai là người khôn ngoan đặng hiểu những sự nầy? và miệng Đức Giê-hô-va nói cùng ai, để người báo tin? vì làm sao xứ nầy bị diệt bị cháy như đồng vắng, đến nỗi không ai qua lại?

13 A nd the Lord said, “They have turned away from My Law that I have given them. They have not obeyed My voice and would not be led by it.

Đức Giê-hô-va đáp rằng: Aáy là vì chúng nó bỏ luật pháp ta mà ta đã đặt cho; không vâng tiếng ta, và không bước theo.

14 B ut they have followed the strongwill of their own hearts, and have gone after the false gods of Baal, as their fathers taught them.”

Nhưng chúng nó bước theo sự cứng cỏi của lòng mình, theo các thần Ba-anh mà tổ phụ mình đã dạy.

15 S o the Lord of All, the God of Israel, says, “See, I will feed these people with wormwood and put poison in their drinking water.

Vậy nên, Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân, Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, phán như vầy: Nầy, ta sẽ cho dân nầy ăn ngải cứu, và cho uống mật đắng.

16 I will spread them out among the nations whom they and their fathers have not known. And I will go after them with the sword until I have put an end to them.” Jerusalem Cries for Help

Ta sẽ làm cho chúng nó tan lạc trong các dân tộc mà chúng nó và tổ phụ mình chưa từng biết; ta sẽ sai gươm đuổi theo, cho đến chừng nào đã diệt chúng nó.

17 T he Lord of All says, “Take thought and call for the women who are filled with sorrow, that they may come. Call for the women who cry for the dead, that they may come.

Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân phán như vầy: Hãy lo gọi những đờn bà hay khóc mướn, cho chúng nó đến; hãy gọi những người đờn bà rất khéo, cho chúng nó đến.

18 L et them hurry and cry in a loud voice for us, that tears may come from our eyes, and that our eyes will flow with water.

Chúng nó hãy vội vàng vì chúng ta rơi lụy, mí mắt chúng ta tràn nước ra!

19 F or a sound of loud crying is heard from Zion: ‘How we are destroyed! We are filled with shame, for we have left the land because they have broken down our houses.’”

Vả, có tiếng phàn nàn nghe từ Si-ôn, rằng: Chúng ta bị hủy phá dường nào! Chúng ta bị xấu hổ lắm, vì chúng ta bỏ đất; vì họ đã phá đổ chỗ ở chúng ta!

20 N ow hear the Word of the Lord, O you women. Let your ear receive the Word of His mouth. Teach your daughters a song of sorrow. Every one teach her neighbor a song for the dead.

Hỡi các đờn bà, hãy nghe lời của Đức Giê-hô-va, tai các ngươi hãy nghe lời miệng Ngài phán! Hãy dạy cho các con gái các ngươi bài ca vãn; mỗi người hãy dạy cho kẻ lân cận mình khóc than!

21 F or death has come in through our windows. It has come into our beautiful houses of kings. It has cut off the children from the streets, and the young men from the open spaces of the city.

Vì sự chết đã lên vào cửa sổ chúng ta, đã sấn vào trong cung chúng ta, giết con cái tại ngoài đường, và kẻ trai trẻ giữa chợ.

22 S ay, “This is what the Lord says: ‘The dead bodies of men will fall like animal waste on the open field, and like grain after the gatherer. But no one will gather them.’”

Ngươi hãy bảo rằng: Đức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Thây người ta sẽ ngã xuống như phân đổ đồng ruộng, và như nắm lúa đổ ra sau lưng con gặt; chẳng ai sẽ lượm chúng nó lại!

23 T he Lord says, “Let not a wise man speak with pride about his wisdom. Let not the strong man speak with pride about his strength. And let not a rich man speak with pride about his riches.

Đức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Người khôn chớ khoe sự khôn mình; người mạnh chớ khoe sự mạnh mình; người giàu chớ khoe sự giàu mình.

24 B ut let him who speaks with pride speak about this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who shows loving-kindness and does what is fair and right and good on earth. For I find joy in these things,” says the Lord.

Nhưng kẻ nào khoe, hãy khoe về trí khôn mình biết ta là Đức Giê-hô-va, là Đấng làm ra sự thương xót, chánh trực, và công bình trên đất; vì ta ưa thích những sự ấy, Đức Giê-hô-va phán vậy.

25 “ See, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “when I will punish all who have gone through the religious act of the Jews, but have not had the sin cut from their heart.

Đức Giê-hô-va phán: Nầy, ngày đến, bấy giờ ta sẽ phạt mọi kẻ chịu cắt bì mà lòng chưa cắt bì:

26 I will punish Egypt, Judah, Edom, the sons of Ammon, Moab, and all those who live in the desert. For none of these nations have had their flesh cut. And none of the people of Israel have had the sin cut from their heart.”

tức là Ê-díp-tô, Giu-đa, Ê-đôm, con cháu Am-môn, Mô-áp, và hết thảy những dân cạo tóc màng tang và ở nơi đồng vắng. Vì mọi dân tộc đều không cắt bì, còn cả nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên chẳng cắt bì trong lòng.
