1 A nd certain persons, having come down from Judaea, taught the brethren, If ye shall not have been circumcised according to the custom of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

Algunos que llegaron de Judea enseñaban a los hermanos: “Si no se circuncidan conforme al rito de Moisés, no pueden ser salvos.”

2 A commotion therefore having taken place, and no small discussion on the part of Paul and Barnabas against them, they arranged that Paul and Barnabas, and certain others from amongst them, should go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders about this question.

Como Pablo y Bernabé tuvieran gran disensión y debate con ellos, los hermanos determinaron que Pablo y Bernabé, y algunos otros de ellos subieran a Jerusalén a los apóstoles y a los ancianos para tratar esta cuestión.

3 T hey therefore, having been set on their way by the assembly, passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, relating the conversion of the nations. And they caused great joy to all the brethren.

Así que, siendo enviados por la iglesia, pasaron por Fenicia y Samaria, relatando detalladamente la conversión de los Gentiles, y causaban gran gozo a todos los hermanos.

4 A nd being arrived at Jerusalem, they were received by the assembly, and the apostles, and the elders, and related all that God had wrought with them.

Cuando llegaron a Jerusalén, fueron recibidos por la iglesia, los apóstoles y los ancianos, e informaron de todo lo que Dios había hecho con ellos.

5 A nd some of those who were of the sect of the Pharisees, who believed, rose up from among, saying that they ought to circumcise them and enjoin them to keep the law of Moses.

Pero algunos de la secta de los Fariseos que habían creído, se levantaron diciendo: “Es necesario circuncidarlos y mandarles que guarden la Ley de Moisés.” El Concilio de Jerusalén

6 A nd the apostles and the elders were gathered together to see about this matter.

Entonces los apóstoles y los ancianos se reunieron para considerar este asunto.

7 A nd much discussion having taken place, Peter, standing up, said to them, Brethren, ye know that from the earliest days God amongst you chose that the nations by my mouth should hear the word of the glad tidings and believe.

Después de mucho debate, Pedro se levantó y les dijo: “Hermanos, ustedes saben que en los primeros días Dios escogió de entre ustedes que por mi boca los Gentiles oyeran la palabra del evangelio y creyeran.

8 A nd the heart-knowing God bore them witness, giving the Holy Spirit as to us also,

Dios, que conoce el corazón, les dio testimonio dándoles el Espíritu Santo, al igual que a nosotros;

9 a nd put no difference between us and them, having purified their hearts by faith.

y ninguna distinción hizo entre nosotros y ellos, purificando por la fe sus corazones.

10 N ow therefore why tempt ye God, by putting a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?

“Ahora pues, ¿por qué tientan a Dios poniendo sobre el cuello de los discípulos un yugo que ni nuestros padres (antepasados) ni nosotros hemos podido llevar ?

11 B ut we believe that we shall be saved by the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same manner as they also.

Creemos más bien que somos salvos por la gracia del Señor Jesús, de la misma manera que ellos también lo son.”

12 A nd all the multitude kept silence and listened to Barnabas and Paul relating all the signs and wonders which God had wrought among the nations by them.

Toda la multitud hizo silencio, y escuchaban a Bernabé y a Pablo, que relataban las señales (los milagros) y prodigios que Dios había hecho entre los Gentiles por medio de ellos.

13 A nd after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Brethren, listen to me:

Cuando terminaron de hablar, Jacobo (Santiago, hermano de Jesús) tomó la palabra y dijo: “Escúchenme, hermanos.

14 S imon has related how God first visited to take out of nations a people for his name.

Simón ha relatado cómo Dios al principio tuvo a bien tomar de entre los Gentiles un pueblo para Su nombre.

15 A nd with this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written:

Y con esto concuerdan las palabras de los profetas, tal como está escrito:

16 A fter these things I will return, and will rebuild the tabernacle of David which is fallen, and will rebuild its ruins, and will set it up,

‘ Despues de esto volvere, y reedificare el tabernaculo de David que ha caido. Y reedificare sus ruinas, y lo levantare de nuevo,

17 s o that the residue of men may seek out the Lord, and all the nations on whom my name is invoked, saith Lord, who does these things

para que el resto de los hombres busque al Señor, y todos los Gentiles (todas las naciones) que son llamados por Mi nombre,’

18 k nown from eternity.

dice el Señor, que hace saber todo esto desde tiempos antiguos.

19 W herefore I judge, not to trouble those who from the nations turn to God;

“Por tanto, yo opino que no debemos molestar a los que de entre los Gentiles se convierten a Dios,

20 b ut to write to them to abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from what is strangled, and from blood.

sino que les escribamos que se abstengan de cosas contaminadas por los ídolos, de fornicación, de lo estrangulado y de sangre.

21 F or Moses, from generations of old, has in every city those who preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath.

Porque Moisés desde generaciones antiguas tiene en cada ciudad quienes lo prediquen, pues todos los días de reposo es leído en las sinagogas.” La Carta del Concilio a los Gentiles

22 T hen it seemed good to the apostles and to the elders, with the whole assembly, to send chosen men from among them with Paul and Barnabas to Antioch, Judas called Barsabas and Silas, leading men among the brethren,

Entonces pareció bien a los apóstoles y a los ancianos, con toda la iglesia, escoger de entre ellos algunos hombres para enviarlos a Antioquía con Pablo y Bernabé: a Judas, llamado Barsabás, y a Silas, hombres prominentes entre los hermanos,

23 h aving by their hand written: The apostles, and the elders, and the brethren, to the brethren who are from among nations at Antioch, and Syria and Cilicia, greeting:

y enviaron esta carta con ellos: “Los apóstoles, y los hermanos que son ancianos (presbíteros), a los hermanos en Antioquía, Siria y Cilicia que son de los Gentiles, saludos.

24 I nasmuch as we have heard that some who went out from amongst us have troubled you by words, upsetting your souls,; to whom we gave no commandment;

Puesto que hemos oído que algunos de entre nosotros, a quienes no autorizamos, los han inquietado con sus palabras, perturbando sus almas,

25 i t seemed good to us, having arrived at a common judgment, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

nos pareció bien, habiendo llegado a un común acuerdo, escoger algunos hombres para enviarlos a ustedes con nuestros amados Bernabé y Pablo.

26 m en who have given up their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Estos hombres han arriesgado (entregado) su vida por el nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

27 W e have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who themselves also will tell you by word the same things.

Por tanto, hemos enviado a Judas y a Silas, quienes también les informarán las mismas cosas verbalmente.

28 F or it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things:

Porque pareció bien al Espíritu Santo y a nosotros no imponerles mayor carga que estas cosas esenciales:

29 t o abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what is strangled, and from fornication; keeping yourselves from which ye will do well. Farewell.

que se abstengan de lo que ha sido sacrificado a los ídolos, de sangre, de la carne de animales que han sido estrangulados y de fornicación. Si se guardan de tales cosas, harán bien. Pásenla bien.” Judas y Silas en Antioquía

30 T hey therefore, being let go, came to Antioch, and having gathered the multitude delivered to the epistle.

Así que ellos, después de ser despedidos, descendieron a Antioquía; y reuniendo a la congregación, entregaron la carta.

31 A nd having read it, they rejoiced at the consolation.

Cuando los hermanos la leyeron, se regocijaron por el consuelo que les impartía.

32 A nd Judas and Silas, being themselves also prophets, exhorted the brethren with much discourse, and strengthened them.

Siendo Judas y Silas también profetas, exhortaron y confortaron a los hermanos con un largo mensaje.

33 A nd having passed some time, they were let go in peace from the brethren to those who sent them.

Después de pasar allí algún tiempo, fueron despedidos en paz por los hermanos para volver a aquéllos que los habían enviado.

34 Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.

Pero a Silas le pareció bien quedarse allí.

35 A nd Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch, teaching and announcing the glad tidings, with many others also, of the word of the Lord.

También Pablo y Bernabé se quedaron en Antioquía, enseñando y proclamando con muchos otros, las buenas nuevas de la palabra del Señor. Pablo y Bernabé se Separan

36 B ut after certain days Paul said to Barnabas, Let us return now and visit the brethren in every city where we have announced the word of the Lord, how they are getting on.

Después de algunos días Pablo dijo a Bernabé: “Volvamos y visitemos a los hermanos en todas las ciudades donde hemos proclamado la palabra del Señor, para ver cómo están.”

37 A nd Barnabas proposed to take with John also, called Mark;

Bernabé quería llevar también con ellos a Juan, llamado Marcos,

38 b ut Paul thought it not well to take with them him who had abandoned them, from Pamphylia, and had not gone with them to the work.

pero Pablo consideraba que no debían llevar consigo a quien los había desertado en Panfilia y no los había acompañado en la obra.

39 T here arose therefore very warm feeling, so that they separated from one another; and Barnabas taking Mark sailed away to Cyprus;

Se produjo un desacuerdo tan grande que se separaron el uno del otro. Bernabé tomó consigo a Marcos y se embarcó rumbo a Chipre,

40 b ut Paul having chosen Silas went forth, committed by the brethren to the grace of God.

pero Pablo escogió a Silas y partió, siendo encomendado por los hermanos a la gracia del Señor.

41 A nd he passed through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the assemblies.

Y viajaba por Siria y Cilicia confirmando a las iglesias.
