1 A nd the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

Entonces vino a mí la palabra del Señor:

2 W hat mean ye, ye who use this proverb of the land of Israel, saying, fathers eat sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?

“¿Qué quieren decir ustedes al usar este proverbio acerca de la tierra de Israel, que dice: ‘Los padres comen las uvas agrias, Y los dientes de los hijos tienen la dentera ’?

3 I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, ye shall not have any more to use this proverb in Israel.

“Vivo Yo,” declara el Señor Dios, “que no volverán a usar más este proverbio en Israel.

4 B ehold, all the souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

Todas las almas son Mías; tanto el alma del padre como el alma del hijo Mías son. El alma que peque, ésa morirá.

5 A nd if a man be righteous, and do judgment and justice:

Pero el hombre que es justo, y practica el derecho y la justicia,

6 — he hath not eaten upon the mountains, nor lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour's wife, nor come near to a woman in her separation,

no come en los santuarios de los montes ni levanta sus ojos a los ídolos de la casa de Israel. No deshonra a la mujer de su prójimo, ni se acerca a una mujer durante su menstruación.

7 a nd hath not oppressed any; he hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath not exercised robbery, hath given his bread to the hungry, and covered the naked with a garment;

Ese hombre no oprime a nadie, sino que devuelve al deudor su prenda; no comete robo, sino que da su pan al hambriento y cubre con ropa al desnudo.

8 h e hath not given forth upon usury, nor taken increase; he hath withdrawn his hand from unrighteousness, hath executed true judgment between man and man,

No presta dinero a interés ni exige con usura, retrae su mano de la maldad y hace juicio verdadero entre hombre y hombre.

9 h ath walked in my statutes, and kept mine ordinances, to deal faithfully: he is righteous, he shall certainly live, saith the Lord Jehovah.

También anda en Mis estatutos y Mis ordenanzas obrando fielmente, ése hombre es justo; ciertamente vivirá,” declara el Señor Dios.

10 A nd if he have begotten a son that is violent, a shedder of blood, and that doeth only one of any of these,

“Pero si tiene un hijo violento que derrama sangre y que hace cualquiera de estas cosas a un hermano

11 a nd that doeth not any of those, but also hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour's wife,

(aunque el padre mismo no hizo ninguna de estas cosas); también come en los santuarios de los montes y deshonra a la mujer de su prójimo.

12 h ath oppressed the poor and needy, exercised robbery, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, committed abomination,

Además oprime al pobre y al necesitado, comete robo, no devuelve la prenda, levanta sus ojos a los ídolos y comete abominación;

13 g iven forth upon usury, and taken increase; shall he then live? He shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall certainly die; his blood shall be upon him.

también presta a interés y exige con usura; ¿vivirá? ¡No vivirá! Ha cometido todas estas abominaciones, ciertamente morirá; su sangre será sobre él.

14 B ut lo, if he have begotten a son that seeth all his father's sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like:

“Pero si tiene un hijo que observa todos los pecados que su padre ha cometido, y viéndo lo no hace lo mismo,

15 — he hath not eaten upon the mountains, nor lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel; he hath not defiled his neighbour's wife,

pues no come en los santuarios de los montes, ni levanta sus ojos a los ídolos de la casa de Israel, ni deshonra a la mujer de su prójimo;

16 a nd hath not oppressed any, nor withholden the pledge, neither hath exercised robbery; he hath given his bread to the hungry, and covered the naked with a garment;

no oprime a nadie, ni retiene la prenda, ni comete robo, sino que da su pan al hambriento y cubre al desnudo con ropa,

17 h e hath withdrawn his hand from the poor, hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, walked in my statutes: he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall certainly live.

además retrae su mano del pobre, no cobra interés ni usura, cumple Mis ordenanzas y anda en Mis estatutos; ése hijo no morirá por la iniquidad de su padre, sino que vivirá.

18 A s for his father, because he practised oppression, exercised robbery upon his brother, and did what was not good among his people, behold, he shall die in his iniquity.

Su padre, que practicó la extorsión, robó a su hermano e hizo lo que no era bueno en medio de su pueblo, morirá por su iniquidad.

19 A nd ye say, Why doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? But the son hath done judgment and justice, hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them; he shall certainly live.

Y ustedes dicen: ‘¿Por qué no carga el hijo con la iniquidad de su padre ?’ Cuando el hijo ha practicado el derecho y la justicia, ha observado todos Mis estatutos y los ha cumplido, ciertamente vivirá.

20 T he soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

El alma que peque, ésa morirá. El hijo no cargará con la iniquidad del padre, ni el padre cargará con la iniquidad del hijo. La justicia del justo será sobre él y la maldad del impío será sobre él.

21 A nd the wicked, if he turn from all his sins which he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do judgment and justice, he shall certainly live, he shall not die.

“Pero si el impío se aparta de todos los pecados que ha cometido, guarda todos Mis estatutos y practica el derecho y la justicia, ciertamente vivirá, no morirá.

22 N one of his transgressions which he hath committed shall be remembered against him; in his righteousness which he hath done shall he live.

Ninguna de las transgresiones que ha cometido le serán recordadas; por la justicia que ha practicado, vivirá.

23 H ave I any pleasure at all in the death of the wicked? saith the Lord Jehovah; is it not in his turning from his way, that he may live?

¿Acaso me complazco Yo en la muerte del impío,” declara el Señor Dios, “y no en que se aparte de sus caminos y viva ?

24 A nd when the righteous turneth from his righteousness and practiseth what is wrong, doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked doeth, shall he live? None of his righteous acts which he hath done shall be remembered: in his unfaithfulness which he hath wrought, and in his sin which he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

“Pero si el justo se aparta de su justicia y comete iniquidad, actuando conforme a todas las abominaciones que comete el impío, ¿vivirá? Ninguna de las obras justas que ha hecho le serán recordadas; por la infidelidad que ha cometido y el pecado que ha cometido, por ellos morirá.

25 A nd ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear then, house of Israel. Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?

Y ustedes dicen: ‘No es recto el camino del Señor.’ Oigan ahora, casa de Israel: ¿No es recto Mi camino? ¿No son los caminos de ustedes los que no son rectos ?

26 W hen the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and practiseth what is wrong, and dieth for it; in his wrong that he hath done shall he die.

Cuando el justo se aparta de su justicia, comete iniquidad y muere a causa de ello, muere por la iniquidad que ha cometido.

27 A nd when the wicked turneth from his wickedness which he hath committed, and doeth judgment and justice, he shall keep his soul alive.

Y cuando el impío se aparta de la maldad que ha cometido y practica el derecho y la justicia, salvará su vida.

28 B ecause he considereth, and turneth from all his transgressions which he hath committed, he shall certainly live, he shall not die.

Porque consideró y se apartó de todas las transgresiones que había cometido, ciertamente vivirá, no morirá.

29 B ut the house of Israel say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? Is it not your ways that are unequal?

Pero la casa de Israel dice: ‘El camino del Señor no es recto.’ ¿No son rectos mis caminos, oh casa de Israel? ¿No son los caminos de ustedes los que no son rectos?

30 T herefore I will judge you, house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord Jehovah. Return ye, and turn from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your snare.

“Por tanto, los juzgaré, a cada uno conforme a su conducta, oh casa de Israel,” declara el Señor Dios. “Arrepiéntanse y apártense de todas sus transgresiones, para que la iniquidad no les sea piedra de tropiezo.

31 C ast away from you all your transgressions wherewith ye have transgressed, and make you a new heart and a new spirit: why then will ye die, house of Israel?

Arrojen de ustedes todas las transgresiones que han cometido, y háganse un corazón nuevo y un espíritu nuevo. ¿Por qué han de morir, casa de Israel?

32 F or I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord Jehovah; therefore turn ye and live.

Pues Yo no Me complazco en la muerte de nadie,” declara el Señor Dios. “Arrepiéntanse y vivan.”
