1 T hese are the words of the covenant that Jehovah commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant that he made with them in Horeb.

Estas son las palabras del pacto que el Señor mandó a Moisés que hiciera con los Israelitas en la tierra de Moab, además del pacto que El había hecho con ellos en Horeb.

2 A nd Moses called to all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that Jehovah did before your eyes in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his bondmen, and to all his land:

Moisés convocó a todo Israel y les dijo: “Delante de sus ojos, ustedes han visto todo lo que el Señor hizo en la tierra de Egipto a Faraón, a todos sus siervos y a toda su tierra,

3 t he great trials that thine eyes have seen, those great signs and wonders.

las grandes pruebas que vieron sus ojos, aquellas grandes señales y maravillas.

4 B ut Jehovah hath not given you a heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day.

Pero hasta el día de hoy el Señor no les ha dado corazón para entender, ni ojos para ver, ni oídos para oír.

5 A nd I have led you forty years in the wilderness; your clothes are not grown old upon you, and thy sandal is not grown old upon thy foot;

Yo los he conducido durante cuarenta años en el desierto; no se han gastado los vestidos sobre ustedes y no se ha gastado la sandalia en su pie.

6 y e have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink, that ye might know that I am Jehovah your God.

No han comido pan ni han bebido vino ni sidra, para que sepan que Yo soy el Señor su Dios.

7 A nd ye came to this place; and Sihon the king of Heshbon and Og the king of Bashan came out against us for battle, and we smote them.

Cuando ustedes llegaron a este lugar, Sehón, rey de Hesbón, y Og, rey de Basán, salieron a nuestro encuentro para pelear, pero los derrotamos;

8 A nd we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of the Manassites.

y tomamos su tierra y la dimos en herencia a los Rubenitas, a los Gaditas y a la media tribu de Manasés.

9 Y e shall keep then the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.

Guarden, pues, las palabras de este pacto y pónganlas en práctica, para que prosperen en todo lo que hagan.

10 Y e stand this day all of you before Jehovah your God: your chiefs your tribes, your elders, and your officers, all the men of Israel,

“Hoy están todos ustedes en presencia del Señor su Dios: sus jefes, sus tribus, sus ancianos y sus oficiales, todos los hombres de Israel,

11 y our little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in thy camp, as well the hewer of thy wood as the drawer of thy water;

sus pequeños, sus mujeres, y el extranjero que está dentro de tus campamentos, desde tu leñador hasta el que saca tu agua,

12 t hat thou mayest enter into the covenant of Jehovah thy God, and into his oath, which Jehovah thy God maketh with thee this day;

para que entres en el pacto con el Señor tu Dios, y en Su juramento que el Señor tu Dios hace hoy contigo,

13 t hat he may establish thee this day for a people unto himself, and he may be to thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

a fin de establecerte hoy como Su pueblo y que El sea tu Dios, tal como te lo ha dicho y como lo juró a tus padres Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.

14 N either with you only do I make this covenant and this oath,

“Y no hago sólo con ustedes este pacto y este juramento,

15 b ut with him that standeth here with us this day before Jehovah our God, and with him that is not here with us this day

sino también con los que hoy están aquí con nosotros en la presencia del Señor nuestro Dios, y con los que no están hoy aquí con nosotros

16 ( for ye know how we dwelt in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the nations which ye passed;

(pues ustedes saben cómo habitamos en la tierra de Egipto y cómo pasamos en medio de las naciones por las cuales han pasado,

17 a nd ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them);

además, han visto sus abominaciones y los ídolos de madera y de piedra, de plata y de oro, que tenían con ellos);

18 l est there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from Jehovah our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood,

no sea que haya entre ustedes hombre o mujer, familia o tribu, cuyo corazón se aleje hoy del Señor nuestro Dios para ir y servir a los dioses de aquellas naciones; no sea que haya entre ustedes una raíz que produzca fruto venenoso y ajenjo.

19 a nd it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to sweep away the drunken with the thirsty.

Y sucederá que cuando él oiga las palabras de esta maldición, se envanecerá, diciendo: ‘Tendré paz aunque ande en la terquedad de mi corazón, a fin de destruir la tierra regada junto con la seca.’

20 J ehovah will not pardon him, but the anger of Jehovah and his jealousy will then smoke against that man, and all the curse shall be upon him that is written in this book; and Jehovah will blot out his name from under the heavens;

El Señor jamás querrá perdonarlo, sino que la ira del Señor y Su celo arderán contra ese hombre, y toda maldición que está escrita en este libro caerá sobre él, y el Señor borrará su nombre de debajo del cielo.

21 a nd Jehovah will separate him for mischief out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law.

Entonces el Señor lo señalará para adversidad de entre todas las tribus de Israel, según todas las maldiciones del pacto que están escritas en este Libro de la Ley.

22 A nd the generation to come, your children who shall rise up after you, and the foreigner that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and its sicknesses wherewith Jehovah hath visited it,

Y la generación venidera, sus hijos que se levanten después de ustedes y el extranjero que venga de tierra lejana, cuando vean las plagas de la tierra y las enfermedades con las que el Señor la ha afligido, dirán:

23 t he whole ground thereof is brimstone and salt, burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, and no grass groweth in it, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboim, which Jehovah overthrew in his anger and in his fury:

‘Toda su tierra es azufre, sal y calcinación, sin sembrar, nada germina y el pasto no crece en ella, como en la destrucción de Sodoma y Gomorra, de Adma y de Zeboim que el Señor destruyó en Su ira y en Su furor.’

24 e ven all nations shall say, Why has Jehovah done thus to this land? whence the heat of this great anger?

Y todas las naciones dirán: ‘¿Por qué ha hecho así el Señor a esta tierra? ¿Por qué esta gran explosión de ira ?’

25 A nd men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of Jehovah the God of their fathers, which he had made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt;

Entonces los hombres dirán: ‘Porque abandonaron el pacto que el Señor, el Dios de sus padres, hizo con ellos cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto.

26 a nd they went and served other gods, and bowed down to them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not assigned to them.

‘Y ellos fueron y sirvieron a otros dioses y los adoraron, dioses que no habían conocido y los cuales El no les había dado.

27 A nd the anger of Jehovah was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curse that is written in this book;

Por eso, ardió la ira del Señor contra aquella tierra, para traer sobre ella toda maldición que está escrita en este libro;

28 a nd Jehovah rooted them out of their land in anger, and in fury, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as this day.

y el Señor los desarraigó de su tierra con ira, con furor y con gran enojo, y los arrojó a otra tierra, hasta hoy.’

29 T he hidden things belong to Jehovah our God; but the revealed ones are ours and our children's for ever, to do all the words of this law.

“Las cosas secretas pertenecen al Señor nuestro Dios, pero las cosas reveladas nos pertenecen a nosotros y a nuestros hijos para siempre, a fin de que guardemos todas las palabras de esta ley.
