1 A nd Rehoboam came to Jerusalem; and he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men apt for war, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

Cuando Roboam llegó a Jerusalén, reunió la casa de Judá y Benjamín, 180, 000 hombres, guerreros escogidos, para pelear contra Israel y restituir el reino a Roboam.

2 B ut the word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

Pero la palabra del Señor vino a Semaías, hombre de Dios, diciendo:

3 S peak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

“Habla a Roboam, hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a todo Israel en Judá y Benjamín, diciéndo les:

4 T hus saith Jehovah: Go not up, nor fight with your brethren; return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. And they hearkened to the words of Jehovah, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

‘Así dice el Señor: “No subirán ni pelearán contra sus hermanos; vuelva cada uno a su casa, porque de Mí ha venido esto.”’” Y ellos escucharon las palabras del Señor y desistieron de ir contra Jeroboam.

5 A nd Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.

Y Roboam habitó en Jerusalén, y edificó ciudades para defensa en Judá.

6 A nd he built Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

Así edificó Belén (Casa del Pan), Etam, Tecoa,

7 a nd Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam,

Bet Sur, Soco, Adulam,

8 a nd Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

Gat, Maresa, Zif,

9 a nd Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

Adoraim, Laquis, Azeca,

10 a nd Zorah, and Ajalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.

Zora, Ajalón y Hebrón, que son ciudades fortificadas en Judá y en Benjamín.

11 A nd he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of victuals, and of oil and wine;

También reforzó las fortalezas y puso comandantes en ellas, y provisiones de víveres, aceite y vino.

12 a nd in every several city, targets and spears, and made them exceedingly strong. And Judah and Benjamin were his.

Y puso escudos y lanzas en todas las ciudades y las reforzó en gran manera. Así mantuvo a su lado a Judá y a Benjamín.

13 A nd the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their districts;

Y los sacerdotes y los Levitas que estaban en todo Israel se pasaron a él desde todos sus distritos.

14 f or the Levites left their suburbs and their possessions, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from exercising the priesthood to Jehovah;

Porque los Levitas dejaron sus tierras de pastos y sus propiedades y vinieron a Judá y a Jerusalén, pues Jeroboam y sus hijos los habían excluido de servir al Señor como sacerdotes.

15 a nd he ordained for himself priests for the high places, and for the he-goats and for the calves that he had made.

Y Jeroboam designó sus propios sacerdotes para los lugares altos, para los demonios (ídolos), y para los becerros que él había hecho.

16 — And after them, those out of all the tribes of Israel that set their heart to seek Jehovah the God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice to Jehovah the God of their fathers.

Aquéllos de entre todas las tribus de Israel que habían resuelto en su corazón buscar al Señor, Dios de Israel, los siguieron a Jerusalén para sacrificar al Señor, Dios de sus padres.

17 A nd they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong three years; for during three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

Y fortalecieron el reino de Judá y apoyaron a Roboam, hijo de Salomón, por tres años, pues por tres años anduvieron en el camino de David y de Salomón.

18 A nd Rehoboam took Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David as wife, Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse.

Entonces Roboam tomó por mujer a Mahalat, hija de Jerimot, hijo de David y de Abihail, hija de Eliab, hijo de Isaí,

19 A nd she bore him children: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.

y ella le dio hijos: Jeús, Semarías y Zaham.

20 A nd after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

Después de ella tomó a Maaca, hija de Absalón, y ella le dio a Abías, Atai, Ziza y Selomit.

21 A nd Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines; for he had taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he begot twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.

Y amó Roboam a Maaca, hija de Absalón, más que a todas sus otras mujeres y concubinas. Porque había tomado dieciocho mujeres y sesenta concubinas, y tuvo veintiocho hijos y sesenta hijas.

22 A nd Rehoboam established Abijah the son of Maachah at the head, to be ruler among his brethren; for to make him king.

Roboam puso a Abías, hijo de Maaca, por cabeza y jefe entre sus hermanos, porque quería hacerlo rey.

23 A nd he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to all the fortified cities; and he gave them food in abundance. And he desired a multitude of wives.

Y obró sabiamente, y distribuyó a algunos de sus hijos por todos los territorios de Judá y de Benjamín, por todas las ciudades fortificadas, les dio alimento en abundancia, y les buscó muchas mujeres.
