1 “ Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold which they refine.

3 M an sets an end to darkness, and searches out, to the furthest bound, the stones of obscurity and of thick darkness.

El hombre pone fin a las tinieblas, y hasta los límites más remotos escudriña la roca que está en lobreguez y densa oscuridad.

4 H e breaks open a shaft away from where people live. They are forgotten by the foot. They hang far from men, they swing back and forth.

Abren minas lejos de lo habitado, olvidado por el pie; suspendidos se balancean lejos de los hombres.

5 A s for the earth, out of it comes bread; Underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.

De la tierra viene el alimento, y abajo está revuelta como por fuego.

6 S apphires come from its rocks. It has dust of gold.

Sus piedras son yacimientos de zafiros, y su polvo contiene oro.

7 T hat path no bird of prey knows, neither has the falcon’s eye seen it.

Senda que ave de rapiña no conoce, ni que ojo de halcón ha alcanzado a ver;

8 T he proud animals have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed by there.

las orgullosas bestias no la han pisado, ni el fiero león ha pasado por ella.

9 H e puts his hand on the flinty rock, and he overturns the mountains by the roots.

Pone el hombre su mano en el pedernal; vuelca de raíz los montes.

10 H e cuts out channels among the rocks. His eye sees every precious thing.

Abre canales en las rocas, y su ojo ve todo lo preciado.

11 H e binds the streams that they don’t trickle. The thing that is hidden he brings out to light.

Detiene los arroyos para que no corran, y saca a luz lo oculto.

12 “ But where shall wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding?

Mas la sabiduría, ¿dónde se hallará? ¿Y dónde está el lugar de la inteligencia ?

13 M an doesn’t know its price; Neither is it found in the land of the living.

No conoce el hombre su valor, ni se halla en la tierra de los vivientes.

14 T he deep says, ‘It isn’t in me.’ The sea says, ‘It isn’t with me.’

El abismo dice: “No está en mí”; y el mar dice: “No está conmigo.”

15 I t can’t be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for its price.

No se puede dar oro puro por ella, ni peso de plata por su precio.

16 I t can’t be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.

No puede evaluarse con oro de Ofir, ni con ónice precioso, ni con zafiro.

17 G old and glass can’t equal it, neither shall it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.

No la pueden igualar ni el oro ni el vidrio, ni se puede cambiar por artículos de oro puro.

18 N o mention shall be made of coral or of crystal. Yes, the price of wisdom is above rubies.

Coral y cristal ni se mencionen; la adquisición de la sabiduría es mejor que las perlas.

19 T he topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, Neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

El topacio de Etiopía no puede igualarla, ni con oro puro se puede evaluar.

20 W here then does wisdom come from? Where is the place of understanding?

¿De dónde, pues, viene la sabiduría? ¿Y dónde está el lugar de la inteligencia ?

21 S eeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky.

Está escondida de los ojos de todos los vivientes, y oculta a todas las aves del cielo.

22 D estruction and Death say, ‘We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.’

El Abadón y la muerte dicen: “Con nuestros oídos hemos oído su fama.”

23 “ God understands its way, and he knows its place.

Dios entiende el camino de ella, y conoce su lugar.

24 F or he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole sky.

Porque El contempla los confines de la tierra, y ve todo bajo los cielos.

25 H e establishes the force of the wind. Yes, he measures out the waters by measure.

Cuando El dio peso al viento y determinó las aguas por medida;

26 W hen he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder;

cuando puso límite a la lluvia y camino para el rayo,

27 t hen he saw it, and declared it. He established it, yes, and searched it out.

entonces El la vio y la declaró, la estableció y también la escudriñó.

28 T o man he said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.’”

Y dijo al hombre: “He aquí, el temor del Señor es sabiduría, y apartarse del mal, inteligencia.”
