1 H ear the right, O Lord, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.

«Preghiera di Davide.» O Eterno, da' ascolto a una giusta causa, presta attenzione al mio grido, porgi l'orecchio alla mia preghiera, che non viene da labbra di frode.

2 L et my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal.

Venga la mia difesa dalla tua presenza; gli occhi tuoi vedano ciò che è retto.

3 T hou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

Tu hai investigato il mio cuore, l'hai visitato di notte, mi hai provato e non hai trovato nulla; mi sono proposto di non peccare con la mia bocca.

4 C oncerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer.

Riguardo alle opere degli uomini, per la parola delle tue labbra, mi sono guardato dalle vie dei violenti.

5 H old up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not.

I miei passi sono rimasti fermi nei tuoi sentieri e i miei piedi non hanno vacillato.

6 I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.

Io t'invoco, o Dio, perché tu mi esaudisci, tendi il tuo orecchio verso di me, ascolta le mie parole.

7 S hew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.

Mostrami la tua meravigliosa bontà, o tu, che con la tua destra salvi dai loro avversari quelli che si rifugiano in te.

8 K eep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

Custodiscimi come la pupilla dell'occhio; nascondimi all'ombra delle tue ali,

9 f rom the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about.

dagli empi che mi opprimono e dai nemici mortali che mi circondano.

10 T hey are inclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly.

I loro cuori si sono induriti, con la loro bocca parlano con arroganza.

11 T hey have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth;

Ora ci hanno circondati, seguono i nostri passi; fissano i loro occhi per atterrarci.

12 l ike as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.

Il mio nemico somiglia a un leone che si strugge dal desiderio di lacerare, e a un leoncello che sta in agguato nei nascondigli.

13 A rise, O Lord, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword:

Levati, o Eterno, affrontalo, abbattilo; libera l'anima mia dall'empio con la tua spada.

14 f rom men which are thy hand, O Lord, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

O Eterno, con la tua mano liberami dagli uomini, dagli uomini del mondo la cui parte è in questa vita, e il cui ventre tu riempi coi tuoi tesori nascosti; i loro figli si satollano e lasciano il resto dei loro beni ai loro bambini.

15 A s for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

Quanto a me, per la giustizia vedrò la tua faccia; mi sazierò della tua presenza quando mi risveglierò.
