1 T he burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.

Profezia contro il deserto del mare. Come i turbini passano velocemente, attraverso il Neghev, cosí un invasore viene dal deserto, da un paese spaventevole.

2 A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, O Elam: besiege, O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease.

Una visione terribile mi è stata mostrata: Il perfido agisce con perfidia e il devastatore devasta. Sali, o Elam. Stringi d'assedio, o Media! Ho fatto cessare ogni suo gemito.

3 T herefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.

Per questo i miei lombi sono pieni di dolori; le doglie mi hanno colto, come le doglie di una donna partoriente; sono sconvolto per ciò che ho udito sono spaventato per ciò che ho visto.

4 M y heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into fear unto me.

Il mio cuore è smarrito lo spavento mi ha preso; la notte che tanto desideravo è diventata per me uno spavento.

5 P repare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

Mentre si prepara la tavola, si sta di guardia sulla torre di vedetta, si mangia e si beve. «Alzatevi, o capi e ungete gli scudi».

6 F or thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

Poiché cosí mi ha detto il Signore: «Va metti una sentinella, che annunzi ciò che vede».

7 A nd he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed:

Essa vide carri e coppie di cavalieri, alcuni che cavalcavano asini e altri che cavalcavano cammelli, e osservò con attenzione, con molta attenzione.

8 a nd he cried, A lion: my lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:

Poi gridò come un leone: «O Signore, di giorno io sto sempre sulla torre di vedetta, e tutte le notti sto in piedi al mio posto di guardia.

9 a nd, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

Ed ecco arrivare dei carri e delle coppie di cavalieri». Allora essa riprese a dire: «E' caduta, è caduta Babilonia! Tutte le immagini scolpite dei suoi dèi giacciono a terra frantumate.

10 O my threshing, and the corn of my floor: that which I have heard of the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.

O popolo mio, che ho trebbiato e calpestato nella mia aia ciò che ho udito dall'Eterno degli eserciti, il DIO d'Israele, io te l'ho annunziato!».

11 T he burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?

Profezia contro Dumah. Mi gridano da Seir: «Sentinella, a che punto è giunta la notte? Sentinella, a che punto è giunta la notte?».

12 T he watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come.

La sentinella risponde: «Vien la mattina, poi anche la notte. Se volete interrogare interrogate pure; ritornate, venite».

13 T he burden upon Arabia. In the forest in Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye travelling companies of Dedanim.

Profezia contro l'Arabia. Passerete la notte nelle foreste dell'Arabia, o carovane dei Dedaniti.

14 T he inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was thirsty, they prevented with their bread him that fled.

Andate incontro all'assetato portando acqua, o abitanti del paese di Tema sono venuti incontro al fuggiasco coi loro pane.

15 F or they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.

Poiché essi fuggono davanti alle spade, davanti alla spada sguainata, davanti all'arco teso, davanti al furore della battaglia.

16 F or thus hath the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail:

Poiché cosí mi ha detto il Signore: «Fra un anno, come l'anno di un bracciante salariato, tutta la gloria di Kedar, scomparirà;

17 a nd the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: for the Lord God of Israel hath spoken it.

e ciò che resterà del numero degli arcieri gli uomini valorosi dei figli di Kedar, sarà poca cosa, poiché l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele, ha parlato».
