1 H ear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the Lord, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.

Ascoltate questo, o casa di Giacobbe, voi che siete chiamati col nome d'Israele, e che siete usciti dalle sorgenti di Giuda, voi che giurate per il nome dell'Eterno e menzionate il DIO d'Israele, ma non in verità e giustizia.

2 F or they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel; the Lord of hosts is his name.

Poiché si fanno chiamare col nome della città santa e si appoggiano sul DIO d'Israele, il cui nome è l'Eterno degli eserciti:

3 I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I shewed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass.

«Io ho annunciato le cose passate fin dal principio; erano uscite dalla mia bocca e le avevo fatte udire; poi improvvisamente io ho agito, ed esse sono accadute.

4 B ecause I knew that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy brow brass;

Poiché sapevo che eri ostinato, che il tuo collo era un tendine di ferro e la tua fronte di bronzo,

5 I have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I shewed it thee: lest thou shouldest say, Mine idol hath done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commanded them.

te le ho annunciate fin dal principio, te le ho fatte udire prima che avvenissero, perché non avessi a dire: "Le ha fatte il mio idolo, le hanno ordinate la mia immagine scolpita e la mia immagine fusa"

6 T hou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare it? I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them.

Tu hai udito e visto tutto questo. Non lo proclamerete quindi? Da ora ti faccio udire cose nuove, cose nascoste che tu non conoscevi.

7 T hey are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them.

Esse sono create ora e non dal principio, prima di oggi non le avevi udite, perché tu non dica: Ecco, io le sapevo

8 Y ea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time that thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb.

No, tu non le hai né udite né sapute, né il tuo orecchio era allora aperto, perché sapevo che avresti agito perfidamente e che ti chiami "ribelle", e fin dal grembo materno.

9 F or my name’s sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off.

Per amore del mio nome differirò la mia ira, e per amore della mia gloria la frenerò per non sterminarti.

10 B ehold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.

Ecco, io ti ho raffinato, ma non come l'argento; ti ho provato nel crogiuolo dell'afflizione.

11 F or mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.

Per amore di me stesso, per amore di me stesso faccio questo; come potrei infatti lasciar profanare il mio nome? Non darò la mia gloria ad alcun altro».

12 H earken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.

«Ascoltami, o Giacobbe, e Israele, che io ho chiamato. Io sono colui che è; io sono il primo e sono pure l'ultimo.

13 M ine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.

La mia mano ha fondato la terra e la mia destra ha spiegato i cieli, quando io li chiamo, si presentano assieme.

14 A ll ye, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them hath declared these things? The Lord hath loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans.

Radunatevi, tutti voi, e ascoltate! Chi tra di essi ha annunciato queste cose? Colui che l'Eterno ama eseguirà il suo volere contro Babilonia e leverà il suo braccio contro i Caldei.

15 I , even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.

Io, io ho parlato, sí, io l'ho chiamato, l'ho fatto venire e farò prosperare la sua impresa.

16 C ome ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord God, and his Spirit, hath sent me.

Avvicinatevi a me, ascoltate questo: "Fin dal principio non ho parlato in segreto; quando questi fatti avvenivano, io ero là. E ora il Signore, l'Eterno, e il suo Spirito mi hanno mandato."».

17 T hus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.

Cosí dice l'Eterno, il tuo Redentore, il Santo d'Israele: «Io sono l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, che ti insegna per il tuo bene, che ti guida per la via che devi seguire.

18 O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:

Oh, se tu avessi prestato attenzione ai miei comandamenti! La tua pace sarebbe come un fiume e la tua giustizia come le onde del mare.

19 t hy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.

La tua discendenza sarebbe come la sabbia e i nati dalle tue viscere innumerevoli come i suoi granelli, il suo nome non sarebbe cancellato né distrutto davanti a me».

20 G o ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The Lord hath redeemed his servant Jacob.

Uscite da Babilonia, fuggite dai Caldei! Con voce di giubilo, annunziatelo, proclamatelo, diffondetelo fino alle estremità della terra. Dite: «L'Eterno ha redento il suo servo Giacobbe».

21 A nd they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he clave the rock also, and the waters gushed out.

Essi non hanno avuto sete, quando li ha condotti attraverso i deserti. Egli ha fatto scaturire per loro acqua dalla roccia; ha spaccato la roccia e sono sgorgate le acque.

22 T here is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked.

«Non c'è pace per gli empi», dice l'Eterno.
