1 T hen Darius the king made a decree, and search was made in the house of the rolls, where the treasures were laid up in Babylon.

Allora il re Dario ordinò che si facessero ricerche nella casa degli archivi dove si conservavano i tesori a Babilonia;

2 A nd there was found at Achmetha, in the palace that is in the province of the Medes, a roll, and therein was a record thus written:

3 I n the first year of Cyrus the king the same Cyrus the king made a decree concerning the house of God at Jerusalem, Let the house be builded, the place where they offered sacrifices, and let the foundations thereof be strongly laid; the height thereof threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof threescore cubits;

«Nel primo anno del re Ciro, il re Ciro pubblicò un editto riguardo alla casa di Dio a Gerusalemme: "Il tempio, il luogo dove si offrono sacrifici, sia ricostruito. Le sue fondamenta siano saldamente gettate. Abbia sessanta cubiti di altezza e sessanta cubiti di larghezza,

4 w ith three rows of great stones, and a row of new timber: and let the expences be given out of the king’s house:

con tre ordini di grosse pietre e un ordine di legname nuovo; e le spese siano pagate dalla reggia.

5 a nd also let the golden and silver vessels of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took forth out of the temple which is at Jerusalem, and brought unto Babylon, be restored, and brought again unto the temple which is at Jerusalem, every one to his place, and place them in the house of God.

Inoltre, gli utensili d'oro e d'argento della casa di Dio, che Nebukadnetsar aveva tolto dal tempio, che è a Gerusalemme e portati a Babilonia, siano restituiti e riportati al tempio che è a Gerusalemme; e ciascuno sia rimesso al suo posto nella casa di Dio"».

6 N ow therefore, Tatnai, governor beyond the river, Shethar-boznai, and your companions the Apharsachites, which are beyond the river, be ye far from thence:

«Ora dunque, Tattenai, governatore della regione oltre il Fiume, Scethar-Boznai e vostri colleghi, Afarsekiti, che sono oltre il Fiume, tenetevi lontani da quel luogo!

7 l et the work of this house of God alone; let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews build this house of God in his place.

Lasciate proseguire il lavoro di questa casa di Dio; il governatore dei Giudei e gli anziani dei Giudei ricostruiscano questa casa di Dio nel suo luogo.

8 M oreover I make a decree what ye shall do to the elders of these Jews for the building of this house of God: that of the king’s goods, even of the tribute beyond the river, forthwith expences be given unto these men, that they be not hindered.

Inoltre emetto un ordine riguardo a ciò che dovete fare per questi anziani dei Giudei nella ricostruzione di questa casa di Dio: a questi uomini siano pagate le intere spese delle entrate del re provenienti dalle tasse raccolte oltre il Fiume, affinché i lavori non siano interrotti.

9 A nd that which they have need of, both young bullocks, and rams, and lambs, for the burnt offerings of the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, and oil, according to the appointment of the priests which are at Jerusalem, let it be given them day by day without fail:

Le cose necessarie per gli olocausti al Dio del cielo: torelli, montoni, agnelli, assieme al frumento, sale, vino, olio, siano consegnate loro giorno per giorno, senza mai venir meno in base alle richieste dei sacerdoti che sono in Gerusalemme,

10 t hat they may offer sacrifices of sweet savours unto the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king, and of his sons.

affinché offrano sacrifici di odore soave al Dio del cielo e preghino per la vita del re e dei suoi figli.

11 A lso I have made a decree, that whosoever shall alter this word, let timber be pulled down from his house, and being set up, let him be hanged thereon; and let his house be made a dunghill for this.

Ho pure dato ordine che se qualcuno altera questo decreto, si tolga una trave dalla sua casa, la si rizzi ed egli vi sia appeso, e la sua casa sia ridotta in un immondezzaio a motivo di questo.

12 A nd the God that hath caused his name to dwell there destroy all kings and people, that shall put to their hand to alter and to destroy this house of God which is at Jerusalem. I Darius have made a decree; let it be done with speed.

Il Dio che ha fatto dimorare là il suo nome distrugga ogni re e ogni popolo che osa stendere la sua mano per alterare questo o per distruggere la casa di Dio che è in Gerusalemme! Io Dario ho emanato questo decreto; sia eseguito con accuratezza».

13 T hen Tatnai, governor on this side the river, Shethar-boznai, and their companions, according to that which Darius the king had sent, so they did speedily.

Allora Tattenai, governatore della regione oltre il Fiume, Scethar-Boznai e i loro colleghi fecero esattamente come il re Dario aveva mandato a dire.

14 A nd the elders of the Jews builded, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they builded, and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the commandment of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.

Cosí gli anziani dei Giudei continuarono a costruire e a far progressi, sostenuti dalle parole ispirate del profeta Aggeo e di Zaccaria figlio di Iddo. Essi terminarono la costruzione secondo il comando del Dio d'Israele e secondo l'ordine di Ciro, di Dario e di Artaserse, re di Persia.

15 A nd this house was finished on the third day of the month Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king.

Il tempio fu ultimato il terzo giorno del mese di Adar, che era il sesto anno del regno di Dario.

16 A nd the children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity, kept the dedication of this house of God with joy,

Allora i figli d'Israele, i sacerdoti, i Leviti e gli altri reduci dalla cattività celebrarono con gioia la dedicazione di questa casa di Dio.

17 a nd offered at the dedication of this house of God an hundred bullocks, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs; and for a sin offering for all Israel, twelve he goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel.

Per la dedicazione di questa casa di Dio offrirono cento torelli, duecento montoni, quattrocento agnelli e dodici capri, secondo il numero delle tribú d'Israele, come sacrificio per il peccato per tutto Israele.

18 A nd they set the priests in their divisions, and the Levites in their courses, for the service of God, which is at Jerusalem; as it is written in the book of Moses.

Stabilirono quindi i sacerdoti secondo le loro classi e i Leviti secondo le loro divisioni, per il servizio di Dio a Gerusalemme, come sta scritto nel libro di Mosè.

19 A nd the children of the captivity kept the passover upon the fourteenth day of the first month.

I reduci dalla cattività celebrarono la Pasqua il quattordicesimo giorno del primo mese,

20 F or the priests and the Levites were purified together, all of them were pure, and killed the passover for all the children of the captivity, and for their brethren the priests, and for themselves.

poiché i sacerdoti e i Leviti si erano purificati insieme; tutti erano puri. Allora immolarono la Pasqua per tutti i reduci dalla cattività, per i loro fratelli sacerdoti e per se stessi.

21 A nd the children of Israel, which were come again out of captivity, and all such as had separated themselves unto them from the filthiness of the heathen of the land, to seek the Lord God of Israel, did eat,

Cosí i figli d'Israele che erano tornati dalla cattività mangiarono la Pasqua assieme a tutti quelli che si erano separati dall'impurità dei popoli del paese e si erano uniti a loro per cercare l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele.

22 a nd kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with joy: for the Lord had made them joyful, and turned the heart of the king of Assyria unto them, to strengthen their hands in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel.

E celebrarono con gioia la festa degli Azzimi per sette giorni, perché l'Eterno li aveva colmati di gioia, piegando a loro favore il cuore del re di Assiria, cosí da rafforzare le loro mani nel lavoro della casa di DIO, il DIO d'Israele.
