1 E lihu also proceeded, and said,

Elihu proseguí ancora, dicendo:

2 S uffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet to speak on God’s behalf.

3 I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.

Prenderò la mia conoscenza da lontano e renderò giustizia a colui che mi ha fatto.

4 F or truly my words shall not be false: he that is perfect in knowledge is with thee.

Certamente le mie parole non sono bugiarde; davanti ti sta un uomo con una conoscenza impeccabile.

5 B ehold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.

Ecco, Dio è potente, ma non disprezza alcuno; è potente nella forza della sua Sapienza.

6 H e preserveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor.

Egli non lascia vivere il malvagio e rende giustizia agli oppressi.

7 H e withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings are they on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted.

Non distoglie i suoi occhi dai giusti, ma li fa sedere per sempre con i re sul trono; cosí sono messi in alto.

8 A nd if they be bound in fetters, and be holden in cords of affliction;

Se però sono legati in catene e trattenuti in lacci di afflizione,

9 t hen he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.

allora mostra loro le opere loro e le loro trasgressioni, perché si sono insuperbiti.

10 H e openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.

Egli apre cosí i loro orecchi alla correzione e li esorta ad allontanarsi dal male.

11 I f they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.

Se ascoltano e si sottomettono, finiranno i loro giorni nel benessere e i loro anni nelle delizie;

12 B ut if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.

se però non ascoltano periranno per la spada, moriranno senza conoscenza.

13 B ut the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: they cry not when he bindeth them.

Ma gli empi di cuore accumulano ira non gridano in cerca di aiuto,

14 T hey die in youth, and their life is among the unclean.

cosí muoiono ancora giovani e la loro vita finisce tra i sodomiti.

15 H e delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression.

Dio libera gli afflitti mediante la loro afflizione e apre i loro orecchi mediante la sventura.

16 E ven so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness.

Egli vuole sottrarre anche te dal morso dell'avversità, per portarti in un luogo ampio senza restrizione, con una tavola imbandita piena di cibi succulenti.

17 B ut thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on thee.

Ma tu colmi il giudizio del malvagio, e il giudizio e la giustizia ti afferreranno.

18 B ecause there is wrath, beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver thee.

Se c'è collera, bada che egli non ti porti via con un sol colpo, perché una gran somma di denaro non potrebbe allontanarlo.

19 W ill he esteem thy riches? no, not gold, nor all the forces of strength.

Darà forse valore alle tue ricchezze, quando egli ha oro e tutte le risorse della potenza?

20 D esire not the night, when people are cut off in their place.

Non desiderare la notte, in cui la gente è portata via dal suo luogo.

21 T ake heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.

Bada di non volgerti all'iniquità, perché tu hai preferito questa afflizione.

22 B ehold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?

Ecco, Dio è eccelso nella sua potenza; chi può insegnare come lui?

23 W ho hath enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou hast wrought iniquity?

Chi mai può imporgli la via da seguire e chi può dirgli: "Tu hai fatto male"?

24 R emember that thou magnify his work, which men behold.

Ricordati di magnificare le sue opere, che gli uomini hanno cantato;

25 E very man may see it; man may behold it afar off.

tutti gli uomini le ammirano, il mortale le può contemplare da lontano.

26 B ehold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.

Sí, Dio è grande, ma noi non lo conosciamo, e il numero dei suoi anni è imperscrutabile.

27 F or he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:

Egli attira in alto le gocce d'acqua sotto forma di vapore, che si condensa poi in pioggia,

28 w hich the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.

che le nubi riversano e lasciano cadere sull'uomo in gran quantità.

29 A lso can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle?

Chi può capire lo spiegamento delle nubi, il fragore che scoppia nella sua tenda?

30 B ehold, he spreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea.

Ecco, egli spande intorno a sé la sua luce e copre le profondità del mare.

31 F or by them judgeth he the people; he giveth meat in abundance.

Per mezzo di esse egli punisce i popoli e dà cibo in abbondanza.

32 W ith clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt.

Si copre le mani con i fulmini e comanda loro di colpire il bersaglio.

33 T he noise thereof sheweth concerning it, the cattle also concerning the vapour.

Il tuono parla di lui, anche il bestiame avverte la tempesta in arrivo.
