1 A nd Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the Lord, and an house for his kingdom.

Poi Salomone decise di costruire un tempio per il nome dell'Eterno e una reggia per sé.

2 A nd Solomon told out threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand to hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.

Salomone arruolò settantamila uomini per portare pesi, ottantamila per estrarre pietre nelle montagne e tremilaseicento per sorvegliare su di loro.

3 A nd Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou didst deal with David my father, and didst send him cedars to build him an house to dwell therein, even so deal with me.

Poi Salomone mandò a dire a Hiram re di Tiro: «Come hai fatto con Davide mio padre, al quale mandasti cedri per costruirsi una casa in cui abitare, fa' altrettanto con me.

4 B ehold, I build an house to the name of the Lord my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the Lord our God. This is an ordinance for ever to Israel.

Ecco io sto per costruire un tempio al nome dell'Eterno, il mio DIO, per consacrarglielo, per bruciare davanti a lui incenso odoroso, esporre continuamente i pani della presentazione e offrire gli olocausti mattina e sera, nei sabati, nei noviluni e nelle feste stabilite dall'Eterno, il nostro DIO. Questa è una legge perpetua per Israele.

5 A nd the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.

Il tempio che io sto per costruire sarà grande, perché il nostro DIO è piú grande di tutti gli dèi.

6 B ut who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him?

Ma chi sarà in grado di costruirgli un tempio dato che i cieli e i cieli dei cieli non lo possono contenere? E chi sono io da costruirgli un tempio, anche solo per bruciare incenso davanti a lui?

7 S end me now therefore a man cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.

Perciò ora mandami un uomo abile a lavorare l'oro, l'argento, il bronzo, il ferro, la porpora, lo scarlatto, il violaceo e che sappia fare ogni sorta d'intagli, lavorando insieme agli esperti che sono presso di me in Giuda, e a Gerusalemme, e che mio padre Davide ha preparato.

8 S end me also cedar trees, fir trees, and algum trees, out of Lebanon: for I know that thy servants can skill to cut timber in Lebanon; and, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants,

Mandami anche dal Libano legname di cedro, di cipresso e di sandalo, perché so che i tuoi servi sono abili nel tagliare il legname del Libano; ed ecco, i miei servi lavoreranno con i servi tuoi,

9 e ven to prepare me timber in abundance: for the house which I am about to build shall be wonderful great.

per prepararmi legname in abbondanza, perché il tempio che io sto per costruire sarà grande e meraviglioso.

10 A nd, behold, I will give to thy servants, the hewers that cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.

E ai tuoi servi che abbatteranno e taglieranno gli alberi io darò ventimila cori di grano, ventimila cori di orzo ventimila bati di vino e ventimila bati di olio».

11 T hen Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because the Lord hath loved his people, he hath made thee king over them.

E Hiram, re di Tiro, rispose con uno scritto, che mandò a Salomone: «Poiché l'Eterno ama il suo popolo, ti ha costituito re su di esso».

12 H uram said moreover, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, endued with prudence and understanding, that might build an house for the Lord, and an house for his kingdom.

Hiram diceva anche: «Benedetto sia l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele, che ha fatto i cieli e la terra, perché ha dato al re Davide un figlio saggio, pieno di intelligenza e di capacità, che edificherà un tempio per l'Eterno e una reggia per sé!

13 A nd now I have sent a cunning man, endued with understanding, of Huram my father’s,

Io ti mando un uomo abile e sapiente di mio padre Hiram,

14 t he son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every device which shall be put to him, with thy cunning men, and with the cunning men of my lord David thy father.

figlio di una donna delle figlie di Dan, mentre suo padre era un uomo di Tiro. Egli sa lavorare l'oro, l'argento, il bronzo, il ferro, la pietra, il legno, la porpora, il violaceo, il bisso, lo scarlatto, e sa fare qualsiasi intaglio e ogni disegno che gli venga affidato. Egli lavorerà con i tuoi esperti e con gli esperti del mio signore Davide, tuo padre.

15 N ow therefore the wheat, and the barley, the oil, and the wine, which my lord hath spoken of, let him send unto his servants:

Ora dunque il mio signore mandi ai suoi servi il grano, l'orzo, l'olio e il vino, che egli ha promesso;

16 a nd we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need: and we will bring it to thee in floats by sea to Joppa; and thou shalt carry it up to Jerusalem.

e noi taglieremo tutti gli alberi del Libano di cui hai bisogno; te li porteremo quindi su zattere per mare fino a Jafo, e tu li farai trasportare a Gerusalemme».

17 A nd Solomon numbered all the strangers that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering wherewith David his father had numbered them; and they were found an hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred.

Salomone recensí tutti gli stranieri che si trovavano nel paese d'Israele dopo il censimento che Davide suo padre aveva fatto di loro, ne furono trovati centocinquantatremilaseicento,

18 A nd he set threescore and ten thousand of them to be bearers of burdens, and fourscore thousand to be hewers in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people a work.

e ne prese settantamila per portare pesi, ottantamila per tagliare pietre nella montagna e tremilaseicento sorveglianti che facessero lavorare il popolo.
