1 U nto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

«Canto dei pellegrinaggi.» A te alzo i miei occhi a te che siedi nei cieli.

2 B ehold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until that he have mercy upon us.

Ecco, come gli occhi dei servi sono rivolti alla mano dei loro padroni e gli occhi della serva alla mano della sua padrona, cosí i nostri occhi, sono rivolti all'eterno, DIO nostro, finché egli abbia pietà di noi.

3 H ave mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

Abbi pietà di noi o Eterno, abbi pietà di noi perché siamo oltremodo sazi di disprezzo.

4 O ur soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

L'anima nostra è oltremodo sazia dello scherno degli arroganti e del disprezzo dei superbi.
