1 А ле слухай но, Йове, промови мої, і візьми до ушей всі слова мої.

Howbeit, Job, I pray thee, hear mine utterances, and hearken to all my words.

2 О сь я уста свої відкриваю, в моїх устах говорить язик мій.

Behold now, I have opened my mouth, my tongue speaketh in my palate,

3 П ростота мого серця слова мої, і висловлять ясно знання мої уста.

My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart, and my lips shall utter knowledge purely.

4 Д ух Божий мене учинив, й оживляє мене Всемогутнього подих.

The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

5 Я кщо можеш, то дай мені відповідь, вишикуйсь передо мною, постався!

If thou canst, answer me; array before me: take thy stand.

6 Т ож Божий і я, як і ти, з глини витиснений теж і я!

Behold, before God I am as thou; I also am formed out of the clay.

7 О то страх мій тебе не настрашить, і не буде тяжкою рука моя на тобі.

Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, nor my burden be heavy upon thee.

8 О тож, говорив до моїх ушей ти, і я чув голос слів:

Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of words:—

9 Ч истий я, без гріха, я невинний, і немає провини в мені!

I am clean without transgression; I am pure, and there is no iniquity in me;

10 О це Сам Він причини на мене знаходить, уважає мене Собі ворогом.

Lo, he findeth occasions of hostility against me, he counteth me for his enemy;

11 У кайдани закув мої ноги, усі стежки мої Він стереже...

He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.

12 О сь у цьому ти не справедливий! Відповім я тобі, бо більший же Бог за людину!

Behold, I will answer thee in this, thou art not right; for +God is greater than man.

13 Ч ого Ти із Ним сперечаєшся, що про всі Свої справи Він відповіді не дає?

Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.

14 Б о Бог промовляє і раз, і два рази, та людина не бачить того:

For God speaketh once, and twice,— perceiveth it not—

15 у сні, у видінні нічному, коли міцний сон на людей нападає, в дрімотах на ложі,

In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;

16 т оді відкриває Він ухо людей, і настрашує їх осторогою,

Then he openeth men's ears, and sealeth their instruction,

17 щ об відвести людину від чину її, і Він гордість від мужа ховає,

That he may withdraw man work, and hide pride from man.

18 щ об від гробу повстримати душу його, а живая його щоб не впала на ратище.

He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from passing away by the sword.

19 І карається хворістю він на постелі своїй, а в костях його сварка міцна.

He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and with constant strife in his bones;

20 І жива його бридиться хлібом, а душа його стравою влюбленою.

And his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty food;

21 Г ине тіло його, аж не видно його, і вистають його кості, що перше не видні були.

His flesh is consumed away from view, and his bones that were not seen stick out;

22 І до гробу душа його зближується, а живая його до померлих іде.

And his soul draweth near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers.

23 Я кщо ж Ангол-заступник при нім, один з тисячі, щоб представити людині її правоту,

If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his duty;

24 т о Він буде йому милосердний та й скаже: Звільни ти його, щоб до гробу не йшов він, Я викуп знайшов.

Then he will be gracious unto him, and say, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

25 Т оді відмолодиться тіло його, поверне до днів його юности.

His flesh shall be fresher than in childhood; he shall return to the days of his youth.

26 В ін благатиме Бога, й його Собі Він уподобає, і обличчя його буде бачити з окликом радости, і чоловікові верне його справедливість.

He shall pray unto +God, and he will receive him with favour; and he shall see his face with shoutings, and he will render unto man his righteousness.

27 В ін дивитиметься на людей й говоритиме: Я грішив був і правду кривив, та мені не відплачено.

He will sing before men, and say, I have sinned, and perverted what was right, and it hath not been requited to me;

28 В ін викупив душу мою, щоб до гробу не йшла, і буде бачити світло живая моя.

He hath delivered my soul from going into the pit, and my life shall see the light.

29 Б ог робить це все двічі-тричі з людиною,

Lo, all these worketh God twice, thrice, with man,

30 щ об душу її відвернути від гробу, щоб він був освітлений світлом живих.

To bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.

31 У важай, Йове, слухай мене, мовчи, а я промовлятиму!

Mark well, Job, hearken unto me; be silent, and I will speak.

32 К оли маєш слова, то дай мені відповідь, говори, бо бажаю твого оправдання.

If thou hast anything to say, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify thee.

33 Я кщо ні ти послухай мене; помовчи, й я навчу тебе мудрости!

If not, hearken thou unto me; be silent, and I will teach thee wisdom.
