1 I acov a ridicat ochii, şi s'a uitat; şi iată că Esau venea cu patru sute de oameni. Atunci a împărţit copiii între Lea, Rahela, şi cele două roabe.

Now Jacob lifted his eyes and looked, and there, Esau was coming, and with him were four hundred men. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and the two maidservants.

2 A pus în frunte roabele cu copiii lor, apoi pe Lea cu copiii ei, şi la urmă pe Rahela cu Iosif.

And he put the maidservants and their children in front, Leah and her children behind, and Rachel and Joseph last.

3 E l însuş a trecut înaintea lor; şi s'a aruncat cu faţa la pămînt de şapte ori, pînă ce s'a apropiat de tot de fratele său.

Then he crossed over before them and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.

4 E sau a alergat înaintea lui; l -a îmbrăţişat, i s'a aruncat pe grumaz, şi l -a sărutat. Şi au plîns.

But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.

5 E sau, ridicînd ochii, a văzut femeile şi copiii, şi a zis:,, Cine sînt aceia?`` Şi Iacov a răspuns:,, Sînt copiii, pe cari i -a dat Dumnezeu robului tău.``

And he lifted his eyes and saw the women and children, and said, “Who are these with you?” So he said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”

6 R oabele s'au apropiat, cu copiii lor, şi s'au aruncat cu faţa la pămînt;

Then the maidservants came near, they and their children, and bowed down.

7 L ea şi copiii ei deasemenea s'au apropiat, şi s'au aruncat cu faţa la pămînt; în urmă s'au apropiat Iosif şi Rahela şi s'au aruncat cu faţa la pămînt.

And Leah also came near with her children, and they bowed down. Afterward Joseph and Rachel came near, and they bowed down.

8 E sau a zis:,, Ce ai de gînd să faci cu toată tabăra aceea pe care am întîlnit -o?`` Şi Iacov a răspuns:,, Voiesc să capăt trecere cu ea înaintea domnului meu.``

Then Esau said, “What do you mean by all this company which I met?” And he said, “ These are to find favor in the sight of my lord.”

9 E sau a zis:,, Eu am din belşug, păstrează, frate, ce este al tău.``

But Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; keep what you have for yourself.”

10 Ş i Iacov a răspuns:,, Nu; te rog, dacă am căpătat trecere înaintea ta, primeşte darul acesta din mîna mea; căci m'am uitat la faţa ta cum se uită cineva la Faţa lui Dumnezeu, şi tu m'ai primit cu bunăvoinţă.

And Jacob said, “No, please, if I have now found favor in your sight, then receive my present from my hand, inasmuch as I have seen your face as though I had seen the face of God, and you were pleased with me.

11 P rimeşte deci darul meu, care ţi -a fost adus, fiindcă Dumnezeu m'a umplut de bunătăţi, şi am de toate.`` Astfel a stăruit de el, şi Esau a primit.

Please, take my blessing that is brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.” So he urged him, and he took it.

12 E sau a zis:,, Haidem să plecăm şi să pornim la drum; eu voi merge înaintea ta.``

Then Esau said, “Let us take our journey; let us go, and I will go before you.”

13 I acov i -a răspuns:,, Domnul meu vede că copiii sînt micşori, şi am oi şi vaci fătate; dacă le-am sili la drum o singură zi, toată turma va pieri.

But Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are weak, and the flocks and herds which are nursing are with me. And if the men should drive them hard one day, all the flock will die.

14 D omnul meu s'o ia înaintea robului său; şi eu voi veni încet pe urmă, la pas cu turma, care va merge înaintea mea, şi la pas cu copiii, pînă voi ajunge la domnul meu în Seir.``

Please let my lord go on ahead before his servant. I will lead on slowly at a pace which the livestock that go before me, and the children, are able to endure, until I come to my lord in Seir.”

15 E sau a zis:,, Vreau să las cu tine măcar o parte din oamenii mei.`` Şi Iacov a răspuns:,, Pentruce aceasta? Mi-ajunge să capăt trecere înaintea ta, domnul meu!``

And Esau said, “Now let me leave with you some of the people who are with me.” But he said, “What need is there? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.”

16 Î n aceeaş zi, Esau a luat drumul înapoi la Seir.

So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir.

17 I acov a plecat mai departe la Sucot. Şi -a zidit o casă, şi a făcut colibi pentru turme. Deaceea s'a dat locului aceluia numele Sucot (Colibi).

And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, built himself a house, and made booths for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth. Jacob Comes to Canaan

18 L a întoarcerea lui din Padan-Aram, Iacov a ajuns cu bine în cetatea Sihem, în ţara Canaan, şi a tăbărît înaintea cetăţii.

Then Jacob came safely to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan Aram; and he pitched his tent before the city.

19 P artea de ogor, pe care îşi întinsese cortul, a cumpărat -o dela fiii lui Hamor, tatăl lui Sihem, cu o sută de chesita.

And he bought the parcel of land, where he had pitched his tent, from the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money.

20 Ş i acolo, a ridicat un altar, pe care l -a numit El-Elohe-Israel (Domnul este Dumnezeul lui Israel).

Then he erected an altar there and called it El Elohe Israel.
